To feel disgusted he washed it in the kitchen sink

Dp rarely does the washing, therefore I wasn't expecting him to wash the clothes I'd left by the machine this morning. Among them were my toddler's dirty pants in a box to remind me to add them to the wash.

I returned home to find not only had he thrown the pants into the wash unrinsed (so with solid poo stuck to them) he'd cleaned the box they were in in the kitchen sink, and used the kitchen sponge to do so.

He's pissed I'm not happy, as the box was sitting in hot, soapy water first, so can't see the problem.

I can't see the problem in cleaning the box in the sink. Just clean the sink. Bin the sponge.

Aturtleatemysandwich · 11/11/2023 13:29

I’d be unimpressed with the unrinsed pants in the machine - but I’d never have left unrinsed pants sitting around with solid poo on anyway - they’d have been done immediately.

The box I wouldn’t mind being washed in the sink, that’s what sinks are for and I assume it wasn’t massively contaminated with solids, but I would clean the sink afterwards and bin the sponge.

ScottBakula · 11/11/2023 13:29

Where would you of rinsed the pants and washed the box ?
Using the kitchen sponge is grim but I presume (hope) it's been thrown away .
I have to add that leaving poo filled pants in the kitchen is also manky

SweetFemaleAttitude · 11/11/2023 13:31

Weren't they a band So Solid Poo?

Dacadactyl · 11/11/2023 13:31

I wouldn't be pissed off that the box was washed in the kitchen sink, or that he'd used the sponge. BUT, I'm presuming the sponge was thrown away immediately and that he washed the sink with dettol or whatever afterwards.

I would be annoyed that solid poo went in the wash (however, i dont understand why the poo wasn't thrown down the loo first before steeping the pants though) but a bit of Dr Beckmanns washing machine cleaning fluid will sort it out.

Bemyclementine · 11/11/2023 13:35

I agree leaving the poop is the worst thing here. Tip into the toilet, rince/soak pants, THEN put in box waiting for wash.

Alternatively. Bin the pants

OneLittleFinger · 11/11/2023 14:01

OK, so you would rinse immediately? I get rid of any big bits immediately, but always thought it better to keep the pants dry until I was going to wash them, at which point I rinse them in the loo then put them in the washing machine. But I'll rinse immediately and store wet. The box is kept in the bathroom until I take it to the washing machine which is next to the kitchen.

The sponge wasn't chucked until I threw it away. DP thinks it's fine to use it again.

You rinse underpants in the toilet?

????

JustEatTheOneInTheBallPit · 11/11/2023 14:07

This is a category 1 crime - to be grumbled about but not heinous enough to post on MN.

My husband did not get out of bed this morning to help me put the shopping away. Category 3 crime.

KateyCuckoo · 11/11/2023 14:10

Ewww. You sound grosser than your DH!

????

Are the question marks for me or the OP? The OP suggests that she rinses them in the toilet in the post at 14:01

2jacqi · 11/11/2023 14:11

reading what you have written, it looks like you put them in a box knowing that they had poo on them???? is this correct?? thats disgusting! get rid of the big bits immediately then rinse the pants then put them in the box! they wont be there long anyway because machine will be on in a few hours!!

What's with all the question marks to @Iudncuewbccgrcb ?

Barleymilk · 11/11/2023 14:13

Nothing wrong with rinsing in the loo. Honestly some people are so strange

I really laughed 😅

Universalsnail · 11/11/2023 14:15

I think cleaning the box in the kitchen sink is fine if you don't have a utility room but only if he moved everything out of the way and he put the kitchen sponge straight in the bin.

The washing machine soiled pants though is so grim.

Also I have to be honest, putting pood in pants with solid poo still attached in a box is equally as grim to me. Definitely rinse immediately, then I would put the soiled pants in a nappy sack that can be disposed of once the pants go in the next wash.

Dacadactyl · 11/11/2023 14:16

I don't think rinsing them in the loo is that weird (although I've never done this myself) but i do think NOT steeping them is odd.

I just used to tip any big bits into the loo and then steep the clothes in water (sometimes with added Milton fluid) in a bucket until the wash was due on. At that point I'd wring the clothes out and put them in the wash.

It sounds like you don't steep them tho, OP and just rinse them in the loo and leave them in a box til the wash is due (not in water) That's the odd bit to me, the not steeping them.

BeckyAMumsnet · 11/11/2023 14:21

Thanks to all who reported. While we can never totally stand by anyone thanks to the whole anonymous thing - OP has been around the boards for several years now and has yet to cause us concern.

Good luck, OP. 😷

CandyLeBonBon · 11/11/2023 14:23

I'd have just binned the pants tbh.

dirtyfries · 11/11/2023 14:32

Some people just don't think/have a total lack of hygiene awareness.

I'd be pissed too

Like the time my SIL scrubbed her dogs harness which was covered in fox poo in my kitchen sink.. using the brush I use for my DDs bottles Angry

Yes, I would have just binned the pants too!
