To feel disgusted he washed it in the kitchen sink

Dp rarely does the washing, therefore I wasn't expecting him to wash the clothes I'd left by the machine this morning. Among them were my toddler's dirty pants in a box to remind me to add them to the wash.

I returned home to find not only had he thrown the pants into the wash unrinsed (so with solid poo stuck to them) he'd cleaned the box they were in in the kitchen sink, and used the kitchen sponge to do so.

He's pissed I'm not happy, as the box was sitting in hot, soapy water first, so can't see the problem.

If the box didn't fit in the dishwasher I would have taken it in the shower with me like we do the recycling tubs when they need a rinse in Winter as the hose as been put away.

What? 🙃

dixeypeach · 11/11/2023 15:30

I'd have just thrown them away to begin with. Why are we rinsing pants! you can get a five pack for £2 🤢 the fact you've stored them in a box in your kitchen is grim, the sink and sponge thing is just revolting all together 🤮

Createausername1970 · 11/11/2023 15:31

I haven't rinsed anything in the loo myself, but thinking about it, it makes sense. The water is clean - unless you routinely follow the "mellow yellow" rule, which I don't, and any debris that comes off can be flushed away.

I think its a genius idea.

Dear god almighty 😵‍💫🤢

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 11/11/2023 15:32

Rinsing nappies/pants in the toilet is old school.
you firmly hold onto the item, so your hand and a section is above the waterline. You shake and lift the nappy or pant in and out of the water while flushing. Don’t let go as you don’t want to flush the item away just the poo.
after wringing the now cleaner nappy/pant you place them in a diaper pail that has lots of water and nappy detergent.
when the diaper pail is full, dump the pail and nappies in the bathtub (no plug). With the nappy detergent drained away, add water to the tub and rinse, wring, and your nappies pants can now be machine washed alone or with clothing.
this process common before disposable diapers is reason number 1 why babies toilet trained earlier 40+ yes sgo.

Despite the higher temperature I wouldn't want the poo-ey box in the dishwasher. Rather the bath or shower.

Mavissdaviss · 11/11/2023 15:32

Ugh. Put the pants straight in the bin. If there are lots of accidents then wait until he’s ready for potty training. It’s not a race.

Ballsbaill · 11/11/2023 15:35

fyn · 11/11/2023 15:25

Everyone that uses cloth nappies rinses in the toilet and then stores it in a bag/basket until wash day…

Quite right. Human waste is meant to go down the toilet to be dealt with by sewage and not thrown in a bin.

StarlightLime · 11/11/2023 15:37

You sound just as gross, op. Leaving a shit encrusted pair of pants hanging around until you got around to washing them.

DojaPhat · 11/11/2023 15:39

If they are so soiled as to require 'special treatment' why not just bin them? Trousers is one thing but what's a pair of pants. As a general rule though I've found many cough, cough people are very lax when it comes to hygiene.

WalnutBlue · 11/11/2023 15:45

All this rinsing in toilet bollocks.
Just wipe the worst off dispose in toilet and put on a 60c steam/hygiene wash ASAP after soiling.
They come out crystal clean every time.
Although if they were completely full of diarrhea rather than solid poo I would probably bin them.

pickledandpuzzled · 11/11/2023 15:47

OP is following modern advice for washable nappies.

You rinse what you can down the loo, then dry pail- sit them in a lidded tub- until wash day.

The pail of Napisan approach is heavy, hard work, inclined to spill, heavy on chemicals.

Dry Pail stops bacteria breeding because it’s dry.

I’m a cloth nappy veteran- dry pail doesn’t smell, as long as the lid is on, and is much less messy. No moving sodden drippy items into the machine.

As for binning pants because you are too lazy to wash them- environment nightmare.

Me too 😆

DisforDarkChocolate · 11/11/2023 15:56

I'm most disgusted by the pants left in such a state hanging around, even in a box. I'd never think to check for that!

IMustDoMoreExercise · 11/11/2023 15:59

That is exactly why I don't let my husband do the cleaning. I have my standards and his are lower.

I would rather do it myself as I know it will be done properly.

OneLittleFinger · 11/11/2023 14:01

OK, so you would rinse immediately? I get rid of any big bits immediately, but always thought it better to keep the pants dry until I was going to wash them, at which point I rinse them in the loo then put them in the washing machine. But I'll rinse immediately and store wet. The box is kept in the bathroom until I take it to the washing machine which is next to the kitchen.

The sponge wasn't chucked until I threw it away. DP thinks it's fine to use it again.

Fucking hell. You rinse them IN THE LOO??? You don't get rid of the bulk of the shit immediately?

And you are complaining about the kaks being rinsed in the sink?

I think you're both dirty clarts!!!

EatYourVegetables · 11/11/2023 16:03

I’m grossed out by SO many things on this thread.

MN is weird. On one hand you need to change a bra every day and wash the towels after one use, and if anyone sleeps in underpants they need to change them morning and evening; these rules include prepubescent non smelly children. On the other hand, wearing chemically treated clothes straight from the shop is fine, sticking your small child’s clothes into the toilet is fine, leaving bits of solid poo out to mature is fine, washing poo in the kitchen sink is fine, and showering with recycling bins (!!) is fine.

Utterly confused.

TopOfTheCliff · 11/11/2023 16:04

He hasn’t done the job to your satisfaction. Either he is a bit careless on hygiene and clearly doesnt work in catering or he is suffering from Simulated Domestic Imcompetence.
The latter is a common condition among DHs who are able to fly drones, operate sophisticated machinery and cars until confronted with a washing machine or dishwasher. “Ooh it’s too complicated I didn’t know which buttons to press” said the university professor who operated a genetic lab. it meant all jobs were done by me until I wised up. He’s an ExH now.

Dogdaywoes · 11/11/2023 16:07

CaptainMyCaptain · 11/11/2023 14:23

That is weird.

Why?

OP, I don't think there's anything wrong with rinsing in the loo, perfectly normal. But I also don't think there's anything wrong with what your DH did. And unless the box actually had poo touching it, I wouldn't be that worried about the sponge, though as sponges are pennies, I'd have changed it anyway.

GalileoHumpkins · 11/11/2023 16:10

I've just read the word poo so many times it's lost all meaning.
Your standards are no higher than his if you're leaving solid poo in a box in your kitchen...sorry.

HolidayHolllie · 11/11/2023 16:10

I usually put anything with poo on straight in the wash on a rinse (after taking off any solid bits obviously) so they're not lying around.

He probably didn't realise or had forgotten.

I agree on to wash the box in the sink - you can clean / bleach the sink.

Bin the sponge

JudgeJ · 11/11/2023 16:16

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 11/11/2023 14:38

It's plain weird and revolting

Not it isn't, back in the days of Terry nappies the liner and contents would be down the loo and if the liner hadn't caught everything then I would hold the nappy tight, flush the loo and let the water pressure get the rest off, it usually worked, then the nappy would go into the nappy bucket by the side of the loo.

The suggestions to bin the pants show how using disposables makes people lazy.

Carpediemmakeitcount · 11/11/2023 16:17

Bemyclementine · 11/11/2023 13:28

I can't see the problem in cleaning the box in the sink. Just clean the sink. Bin the sponge.

This!!

Op I would love to spend a day in your life and have your issues. You ain't got nothing better to do?
