To feel disgusted he washed it in the kitchen sink

Dp rarely does the washing, therefore I wasn't expecting him to wash the clothes I'd left by the machine this morning. Among them were my toddler's dirty pants in a box to remind me to add them to the wash.

I returned home to find not only had he thrown the pants into the wash unrinsed (so with solid poo stuck to them) he'd cleaned the box they were in in the kitchen sink, and used the kitchen sponge to do so.

He's pissed I'm not happy, as the box was sitting in hot, soapy water first, so can't see the problem.

Your method sounds much worse. Storing a box of poo?

Ilovegoldies · 11/11/2023 14:45

You are unreasonable for not binning the pants. If there are too many to bin I'd put the potty training on hold for a bit.

Topseyt123 · 11/11/2023 14:56

Of course putting pants with solid poo on them into the washing machine along with other stuff is horrendous and he should have engaged his brain there.

However, why the hell hadn't you fully rinsed the pants out immediately? Then they could just have gone straight in with the next wash with no issues. I'd have got rid of the worst down the toilet, then rinsed them thoroughly in the sink and then cleaned and disinfected the sink well. It takes just a few minutes. I might also have left them soaking in a solution of biological washing powder.

Keeping poo covered pants in a box is really gross.

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 11/11/2023 14:38

It's plain weird and revolting

I think the OP means she rinsed them in the bathroom sink. I would use the kitchen sink either (faecal bacteria) but the bathroom one and them bleach it.
The kitchen sink is the wrong place to do this.

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 11/11/2023 15:05

@girlswillbegirls Ahhhhhh yeah I see. I thought she meant the actual loo! 🤦🏼‍♀️

liveforsummer · 11/11/2023 15:08

Personally pants covered in poo would have gone in the bin but otherwise I'd have rinsed them at the time. Putting them in the wash covered in lumps of poo isn't great but maybe he didn't realise. Washing in a sink is totally normal. It's either that sink or the one you brush your teeth in surely? He definitely should have binned the sponge though so is UR for that

Anywherebuthere · 11/11/2023 15:09

Leaving pants unrinsed in the first place is worse.

It is also gross if he hasnt binned the sponge and washed the sink.

Utterbunkum · 11/11/2023 15:10

I have to give points for a gripping title that just begged me to read on. It was like a mystery thriller. Who washed what in the sink?

After that, I was slightly disappointed to discover it wasn't incriminating evidence.

Mojodojocasahaus · 11/11/2023 15:10

Mumsnet is batshit today

Nothing wrong with rinsing in the loo. Honestly some people are so strange

Sorry but I'm 44 and never in those years have I never ever rinsed anything in the loo. Do people do this? 👀

Ballsbaill · 11/11/2023 15:11

I'd be more revolted with pants covered in shit left in a box in the kitchen. If they're that badly soiled throw them out or wash them immediately.

BarbDwyerHair · 11/11/2023 15:13

I thought you were going to say his penis

BaronessBomburst · 11/11/2023 15:15

I have a small airer in the utility room which is 'unclean'.
Anything filthy gets rinsed by hand immediately, then put on the airer to await the appropriate wash.
Potty training finished years ago in this house but the system still works. Yesterday's manky cloth had been used for washing down a muddy bicycle.

Jewelanemone · 11/11/2023 15:15

I don't understand why people are horrified at the thought of poo being rinsed off in the loo. Surely that's the whole point of the bloody thing!

Grip pants tightly by a non-pooey bit, hold pants down the loo, flush the loo to rinse off worst of poo. Put pants in washing machine.

It's really not that difficult for anyone with half a brain.

humpty74 · 11/11/2023 15:17

It's pretty common with cloth nappies to hold them in the toilet and flush it to rinse poo off before washing, no reason you shouldn't do that with pants if it works for you. We found it just made them wet and pooey so used a cheap spatula to scrape instead and it's still in the bathroom to use it for any pants incidents since toilet training but yeah I'd do it before it dried.
Binning clothes instead of washing them is ridiculous.

Nanny0gg · 11/11/2023 15:18

OneLittleFinger · 11/11/2023 14:01

OK, so you would rinse immediately? I get rid of any big bits immediately, but always thought it better to keep the pants dry until I was going to wash them, at which point I rinse them in the loo then put them in the washing machine. But I'll rinse immediately and store wet. The box is kept in the bathroom until I take it to the washing machine which is next to the kitchen.

The sponge wasn't chucked until I threw it away. DP thinks it's fine to use it again.

If it's a frequent thing with pooey pants then get yourself some Napisan to soak them in till you wash them

PortalooSunset · 11/11/2023 15:20

Where would you have washed the box @OneLittleFinger ?

Doggymummar · 11/11/2023 15:20

I don't get the storing the dirty pants for later. They would go in the wash by themselves as soon as the accident happened. I would throw the sponge I think for poo but otherwise it would go in the dishwasher on a hot wash with all the other cleaning cloths and brushes.

Doggymummar · 11/11/2023 15:22

If the box didn't fit in the dishwasher I would have taken it in the shower with me like we do the recycling tubs when they need a rinse in Winter as the hose as been put away.

SweetFemaleAttitude · 11/11/2023 13:31

Weren't they a band So Solid Poo?

😆

Aveen1 · 11/11/2023 15:23

I agree with you OP, so disgusting. Throw the sponge in the bin and fill up the sink with boiling hot water and add bleach. Leave that sitting for a bit and rinse with boiling water from the kettle.

TeenLifeMum · 11/11/2023 15:25

Kitchen sink can be bleached… leaving poo on pants and not dealing with it immediately is gross though.

fyn · 11/11/2023 15:25

Everyone that uses cloth nappies rinses in the toilet and then stores it in a bag/basket until wash day…

PurBal · 11/11/2023 15:27

What @fyn said…

UpUpUpU · 11/11/2023 15:29

So much to unpick here:

  1. why so many pants filed with solid poo? Is your child ready to be potty trained?
  2. how long are they kept stinking in a box with actual poo in them before washing?
  3. why not just rinse the pants and wash them when your child is an accident?
  4. or just him the pants!
Your house must smell delightful
