To feel disgusted he washed it in the kitchen sink

Dp rarely does the washing, therefore I wasn't expecting him to wash the clothes I'd left by the machine this morning. Among them were my toddler's dirty pants in a box to remind me to add them to the wash.

I returned home to find not only had he thrown the pants into the wash unrinsed (so with solid poo stuck to them) he'd cleaned the box they were in in the kitchen sink, and used the kitchen sponge to do so.

He's pissed I'm not happy, as the box was sitting in hot, soapy water first, so can't see the problem.

@girlswillbegirls Ahhhhhh yeah I see. I thought she meant the actual loo! 🤦🏼‍♀️

I know 😂
I don't think anyone would do that but who knows...

applepieandtea · 11/11/2023 16:24

Why keep them when my kids had accidents id put the pants in a bag and put them straight in the bin not save them in a box in the kitchen.
you can get packs of pants for a few ££ from asda.

You both sound unhygienic.
Saving shitty pants in a box in the kitchen i wouldent want a cup a tea from your home.

CandyLeBonBon · 11/11/2023 14:23

I'd have just binned the pants tbh.

This, I have binned so many things that I can't be bothered to go scrubbing and rinsing, and then cleaning up again after. I think it's so disgusting keeping it in a box!

Bemyclementine · 11/11/2023 16:26

@girlswillbegirls people do rinse in the actual toilet - I know a few people who used cloth nappies. That's what they did. They also had a poo knife.

I read on here a suggestion to rinse your moon cup under in the loo as it flushes in public toilets.before reinserting

Hankunamatata · 11/11/2023 16:29

You rinse in toilet immediately. Pour jugs of water over them until cleanish then put in box to wash. Rinsing in the sink wouldn't bother me though I'd throw sponge away and bleach the sink area after

Barnowlsandbluebells · 11/11/2023 16:31

I'm sure they weren't left in the kitchen. That would be too disgusting to contemplate.

EarringsandLipstick · 11/11/2023 16:36

God this whole thread is gross - OP your approach is infinitely worse - soiled underwear sitting around 🤮

Rinsing in the loo makes no sense; sure, dispose of the product there, but rinsing - no.

Your H putting straight into the machine & then using yhr dish brush is also manky.

I've had 3 DC & never encountered this dilemma - rinsed at time, left to soak or quickly in a wash. No pants so bad that they'd be soiled to that extent & left sitting around. How often does this happen?

jolaylasofia · 11/11/2023 16:41

oh my good why was solid poo left in the pants anyway???

Nanny0gg · 11/11/2023 16:43

Createausername1970 · 11/11/2023 15:31

I haven't rinsed anything in the loo myself, but thinking about it, it makes sense. The water is clean - unless you routinely follow the "mellow yellow" rule, which I don't, and any debris that comes off can be flushed away.

I think its a genius idea.

Back in the day when I used cloth nappies, the shower hose reached across to the loo (small bathroom) so it was really easy to clean off the debris thoroughly before soaking them in Napisan.

TheUltima · 11/11/2023 16:46

Rinse pants in the loo 😂😂 fucking brilliant

Desu · 11/11/2023 16:50

Well I’m pissed off that you’ve used the phrase “he’s pissed”, unless you’re American I suppose. Anyway, frankly I think you now go off and get pissed and let him sort out the poo. Cheers.

TheOccupier · 11/11/2023 16:51

You both sound equally disgusting. Leaving shit around the house is just as bad as putting it in the washing machine! Kids' pants are cheap, just bin the pooey ones. If you're having a lot of poo accidents, go back to pull-ups and/or be more vigilant and ready with the potty.

CaramacFiend · 11/11/2023 16:56

I can see why you might find it a bit grim, OP, but is it really any worse than washing a mooncup in a public sink (presumably without washing up liquid) which other unsuspecting people might then wash their hands in?

CandyLeBonBon · 11/11/2023 16:59

pickledandpuzzled · 11/11/2023 15:47

OP is following modern advice for washable nappies.

You rinse what you can down the loo, then dry pail- sit them in a lidded tub- until wash day.

The pail of Napisan approach is heavy, hard work, inclined to spill, heavy on chemicals.

Dry Pail stops bacteria breeding because it’s dry.

I’m a cloth nappy veteran- dry pail doesn’t smell, as long as the lid is on, and is much less messy. No moving sodden drippy items into the machine.

As for binning pants because you are too lazy to wash them- environment nightmare.

I'm also a reusable nappy veteran (3 dc). Sometimes pants are unsalvagable. Nothing to do with laziness.

I don't think this is the same.

Screamingabdabz · 11/11/2023 16:22

Ahh the marry-a-domestic-martyr trick worked didn’t it? Clever bloke.

No, he is lovely and doesn't mind cleaning at all. I know that some men would do it deliberately (as would some women if they didn't want to do a certain job, so it isn't just men) but he really doesn't.

I know it sounds sexist but I really think that men's brains work differently to women's when it comes to cleaning (well in my experience they do).

I just don't like the way they clean. They don't have the same attitude to hygiene as I do. Perhaps I am wrong and they are right, but I would just rather do it myself as otherwise I would have to supervise him.

wishingiwas20something · 11/11/2023 17:37

Gross, solid poop pants go in the bin, not a box. I would say the error was not binning or washing immediately and everything that followed was a consequence of this.

pickledandpuzzled · 11/11/2023 17:43

CandyLeBonBon · 11/11/2023 16:59

But several people have said they can’t be bothered, it’s them I’m referring to.
Sometimes pants are unsalvageable, but not usually, especially if the contents could be mainly shaken out.

PurpleNebula84 · 11/11/2023 17:43

Reminds me of the time my ex used to FLUSH our daughter's knickers down the toilet because he couldn't be bothered to sort them out... Then there was the time I witnessed him clean the kitchen floor (he didn't do this often and was probably the only thing he took upon himself to do once every Preston Guild) with the dish cloth and then use the same cloth and water to wipe down the kitchen sides and put the cloth back 🤢🤢 He could see nothing wrong with it 🤢🤢

*Of course I re did the kitchen sides with a clean cloth, putting both in the wash after.

WeekendFreedom · 11/11/2023 17:45

Fair enough to be disgusted that he didn’t throw the sponge that is gross if it’s sat there and could be used to wash next lot of pots 🤢 can’t see any harm in him washing the box in the sink, I used to throw the whole baby in the kitchen sink and then give the sink a good clean and bleach. It’s more gross leaving soiled pants in a box to begin with. Surely if you are going to wash them it’s easier to get rid of any lumps then rinse immediately instead of allowing the poo to dry

MinnieL · 11/11/2023 19:10

OneLittleFinger · 11/11/2023 14:01

OK, so you would rinse immediately? I get rid of any big bits immediately, but always thought it better to keep the pants dry until I was going to wash them, at which point I rinse them in the loo then put them in the washing machine. But I'll rinse immediately and store wet. The box is kept in the bathroom until I take it to the washing machine which is next to the kitchen.

The sponge wasn't chucked until I threw it away. DP thinks it's fine to use it again.

Rinse them in the loo? What do you mean??

MinnieL · 11/11/2023 19:12

Barleymilk · 11/11/2023 14:13

Nothing wrong with rinsing in the loo. Honestly some people are so strange

I’m so fucking confused rn?! Are you saying there’s nothing wrong with rinsing dirty underwear in the loo? As in the water that’s in the toilet?

So no one pours water into a basin, rinse the underwear that way and then pours the water from the basin into the toilet? Some of you are just skipping a step and putting your hands down the toilet to wash underwear? I refuse to believe it

No, you flush and rinse in the flush water.
