Fleece bed linen. Just no…

maldivemoment · 27/10/2023 14:47

Looking to get our teenage daughter some new Christmas bedding. Everywhere I look there seems to be an awful lot of winter bedding which is fleecy. 100% polyester.

is it just me who finds this a bit gross? I can’t get past how hot & sweaty it would be lying under a fleece duvet cover! Imagine how often it would need washed! 😮
I get that it would be cosy to crawl under at first, but to sleep under it all night?????
Yes? No?

Repulsive. Reminds me of brushed nylon sheets from Brentford Nylons in the 1970s. Brushed cotton is lovely but pure linen bedding is the best, cool in summer and warm in winter.

Rudderneck · 28/10/2023 00:10

Yeah, my husband loves the fleece sheets, I think they are horrible.

TheChosenTwo · 28/10/2023 00:10

Yikes. Absolutely not for me!
I hate the feeling of fleece though, and the thought of sleeping in it makes me sweat 😂 I sleep naked, I’d not like this at all.
I do want some brushed cotton bedding, we had a set years ago but Dh didn’t like it as he said it felt greasy. Weirdo. Might get a set and see if even notices now, he may have grown out of it!

HikingforScenery · 28/10/2023 00:28

I have them. They’re on our bed right now. My house is warm as my heating is full
blast but i’m always cold and I love mine.
It smells fine when washed. I look forward to lying in a bed that’s not cold. bliss

Mouk · 28/10/2023 09:38

Sounds nice in theory, but I could never use them. I'm like a furnace in bed.

And also better for the environment! I can't understand why people use polyester fleece once they know how bad it is.

Do none of you wear a fleece jacket ?.
I know years ago when my Dd went skiing with her school they said microfleece not cotton next to skin. Cotton doesn’t wick moisture

I have cotton sheets duvet cover and pillowcases from Dunelm (Concious Cotton) . I bought a Teddy Fleece fitted sheet for winter it is lovely.
soft,, washes and dries quickly. Much easier to put on our deep mattress.
Not sweaty at all.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 28/10/2023 15:37

Oh I love mine! So warm and cosy

No, fleece is just polyester and I think it's sweaty and uncomfortable in all forms! Merino wool base layers are what you actually want next to skin but they are pretty expensive.

Brentford Nylons! Wow!

I have vague memories of family outings to BN. We lived about 15 mins away back then. My DM would force my highly un-enthusiasitc dad to drive us there and she'd buy up polyester flat and fitted sheets in flowery bright pink and mint.

I think that must have been the death knell for the cotton candy stripe, thinking about it ....

I'm finding a lot of nostalgia on this thread, thanks OP 😂

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 28/10/2023 17:36

Are some of these fleecy duvet covers fleecy on both sides? We have one for when it is very cold but it is only fleece on the outside layer, not the bits that touch you.

Katherineryan · 28/10/2023 17:38

I agree with OP that sleeping in fleece would be too hot etc.

However, I bought 2 singled sized fitted fleece sheets, and they are perfect for covering the sofas in our caravan, thereby protecting the sofas as the dog sleeps on there, and also fit neater than a fleece throw trying to tuck it all in.

9outof10cats · 28/10/2023 17:52

I bought a few last year and found having a fleece-fitted sheet and duvet set together far too hot. Now I only use the fitted sheets, when it's really cold.

What I do like about the fleece is they feel warm, even if the room is cold. Nothing worse than getting into a cold bed.

EBearhug · 28/10/2023 17:55

Natural fibres only here, but I do have a fleece 5 season sleeping bag liner for camping in the cold. Though I'd probably still use my silk liner inside that. (Admittedly these days, I just avoid camping in cold weather.)

VeryGoodVeryNice · 28/10/2023 17:56

I got some last year and used it during the really cold weather we had. It wasn’t exactly fleece, more like soft faux fur. It was bloody hot 🤣, but I slept better than I ever have because it gave a weighted blanket effect. That was on a 13.5 tog duvet though and it was a bit much, this year I’ll try it on my 10.5 tog one and see if that’s a bit more manageable. Also definitely wouldn’t use it when the bf is here, he’s a big hairy sweaty thing at the best of times.

LoobyDop · 28/10/2023 17:57

I dated someone very briefly who had a fleece fitted sheet on his bed. I should have listened to the Ick screaming at me over that, but I ploughed politely on for a couple of weeks until I was drowning in Ick.

AgingDisgracefullyHere · 28/10/2023 18:05

I voted YABU because I feel differently about fleece, but of course you're not unreasonable to feel that way!

I find it delightfully cozy to sleep on a fleece fitted bottom sheet when it's very cold. But I cannot abide fleece lounging/pajama bottoms. My crotch itches just thinking about it!

Sennelier1 · 29/10/2023 08:09

YANBU! If your DD absolutely needs to have this fleece cover, I would put a nice brushed cotton sheet under it 😊

OMG imagining a fleecy wet patch 🤮

There's some nice brushed cotton sets in Dunelm just now for not a lot of money, we got a new one yesterday and I'm itching to get it on later. Early night for me tonight!

Imagine the trapped farts

JRM17 · 29/10/2023 08:19

I suppose it would depend if you're "of a certain age". I LOVE my fleece bedding, it is soooo comfy and cozy. I'm 39 and a bit of a cold bod, my husband just throws the quilt off him when he goes to sleep, it doesn't smell or make me sweaty, my 6yr old DS also loves his fleece bedding.

ImpeckableChicken · 29/10/2023 08:27

I thought the same and pulled a face when DH bought it for us but it’s one of the best purchases he’s ever made 😂 the kids have one now too!

Doesn’t go on til end of October. Have the very occasional sweaty night. I have a normal fitted sheet though cus if we do feel warm we can just kick the duvet off. Can’t escape a fitted sheet!

SkankingWombat · 29/10/2023 09:33

We've had teddy bear fitted sheets for camping for a few years now. They make a huge difference, especially when away in spring and autumn, as the cold can really seep upwards. They are a pain in the arse for collecting bits of grass etc that you may have trekked in, as it embeds itself in amongst the fibres. We bring the feather duvet (with cotton cover) from our bed, so nothing gets sweaty but is always cosy.

However, there is no way I'd want them at home - they'd be far too sweaty! And I can't imagine how overheated I'd feel with a full sheet/duvet cover/pillow case set up...

fetchacloth · 29/10/2023 09:34

Fleece in bed would give me the ick.
So hot and unhygienic 😑
