Fleece bed linen. Just no…

Looking to get our teenage daughter some new Christmas bedding. Everywhere I look there seems to be an awful lot of winter bedding which is fleecy. 100% polyester.

is it just me who finds this a bit gross? I can’t get past how hot & sweaty it would be lying under a fleece duvet cover! Imagine how often it would need washed! 😮
I get that it would be cosy to crawl under at first, but to sleep under it all night?????
Yes? No?

I have some teddy fleece bedding for the cold weather and it's lovely , not sweaty at all.

BarborousBarbra · 27/10/2023 15:09

I am very anemic and can be freezing on the hottest summer days so I’m probably a bit unusual!

Lovemusic82 · 27/10/2023 15:11

I do have a set that I use when it’s really cold, it saves me putting the heating on, I can only afford to put the heating on for a couple hours a day. It’s supper cosy but I couldn’t cope with it on a warmer day (just frosty days),

DarklySparkly · 27/10/2023 15:12

DS has one. We have a Victorian house in wales and it gets cold in the rooms (12C or less without heating) overnight. I will be buying a fleece duvet and sheet for our bed this winter as I tried DS’s and it was instantly like the snuggly feeling you get when you’ve been in bed all night. My biggest problem is that I won’t want to get out of it! Couldn’t use it in anything other than cold weather though.

TheNoodlesIncident · 27/10/2023 15:19

We've got brushed cotton bed sets, electric blankets and an extra blanket for if it gets very cold in the night. I only change over to the brushed cotton when it gets wintery, our heating kicks in at 16 degrees overnight but we've always got bedroom windows open.

I always run cold and have pyjamas for bed but fleece seems like a step too far for me, it doesn't seem like an appropriate material for bedding at all. Each to their own, but I'd rather have regular bedding and just add more layers if necessary.

Mine would probably smell like a hamster's cage of I used that.

@Startyabastard 😆

I have fleecy sheets yes. A godsend in the cold winter nights when you have arthritis.

Coffeerum · 27/10/2023 15:32

Not everyone is a sweaty person.

Fluffytoebeanz · 27/10/2023 17:05

I've just bought some lovely brushed cotton bedding for my teen from ASDA

Paradiseflycatcher · 27/10/2023 17:12

This time of year I'm in cotton bedding, but when the freezing winter temperatures arrive, my fleecy duvet cover will go on. Its snuggly and warm and not at all sweaty. Its lovely . Always have a cotton bottom sheet and pillow cases though.

Zanatdy · 27/10/2023 17:12

I love mine. Bit too warm still yet but it won’t be long. I don’t sweat much

Poudretteite · 27/10/2023 17:22

I love our fleecy sheets. They're not sweaty. Really soft and cozy.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 27/10/2023 17:36

I bought one last year - life changing. I dont find it gets any sweatier than any other duvet cover, and I change that weekly anyway. Went back and got a sheet too, because it is so lovely. Not quite cold enough for it yet, but in the winter - bliss.

SharonEllis · 27/10/2023 17:38

Horrible stuff. It sheds tiny microplastic fibres every time you wash it & doesn't biodegrade. I never buy polyester fleece.

Nemareus · 27/10/2023 17:43

I got the Sherpa ones that are popular. When washed, took forever to dry and then had that horrible mouldy wet washing smell. Before that we loved them.

If you are prepared to go to the launderettte and fry there; maybe (too big for tumble dryer).

If not; no

orchardsquare · 27/10/2023 17:47

Yes, I think this too. Even worse would be the fleece fitted sheets and pillow cases. I do like the idea of those flanelette bedding sets but don't think I've ever tried them. You can't beat plain cotton really - even if it's cold you soon warm up in bed.

I think that smell comes from using fabric conditioner on them. We never use it for fleecy stuff and nothing ever goes stinky anymore.

muddyford · 27/10/2023 17:50

Better to get flannelette between the fleece and the human!

margotrose · 27/10/2023 17:51

We bought some a couple of winters ago when our boiler broke. It was SO warm and toasty. We only use it on really cold weeks though.

Violetparis · 27/10/2023 17:51

I love my Dunelm 'Teddy' cosy fleece bedding.

Sebsaloysius · 27/10/2023 18:06

I'm a fleece bedding convert as of last week. I'm so in love with it that I've just been out today and bought another set!

I'm perimenopause and sweat like a garroted goat during the night, but I have a husband who turns to ice in the winter (even sleeping next to me). I have so far refused to put the winter duvet on, but thought I'd try a fleece duvet cover as a compromise, mostly because it felt soooo soft and cuddly in the shop. Let me tell you....it's heavenly. It actually makes the duvet feel lighter than a cotton cover for some reason, but is snuggly and cosy as heck. I haven't noticed any increase in the severity of the night soaks, but they're no better. DH is toasty warm even though he hates the aesthetics of it - he reckons our bedroom looks like a 10 year old girls room 😂

Conkersinautumn · 27/10/2023 18:09

Very useful for cutting heating costs I understand. Your distaste implies you're heating your home already, remember mn cannot allow such frivolous behaviour until at least mid November

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 27/10/2023 18:25

No way would we have fleece bed linen. Brushed cotton in winter is lovely but sometimes even that gets too much, mainly because Mr Vegemite radiates so much heat.

Sheraprincessofflower · 27/10/2023 18:42

I keep seeing these this year - had never seen them before. Ughhhhhhh, no! No way ever! It would be so sweaty and uncomfortable. The thought makes me cringe.
