To get a tv in my bedroom at 41 years old?

bigcheeseygrin · 18/10/2023 19:59

I've never had a tv in my bedroom, apart from when I was a child, and then it was purely set up for my games console.

I wasn't allowed one in my room as a teenager, and now it does feel like it would be wrong to have one in there!

But... I don't enjoy watching tv in my living room. I can't lounge properly the way it's set up.

Does anyone else feel that tv's have no place in the bedroom? Or am I missing out by not have doing it years ago?

We’ve always had TVs in the bedroom , go for it .

caerdydd12 · 18/10/2023 20:01

I love having one in my room. Especially in winter, I like an early night and it's nice to be able to get comfy in bed and watch a film.

Jessforless · 18/10/2023 20:01

I love having a TV in the bedroom. Putting it on when I’m getting ready to go out and calling the kids in on a Sunday morning and letting them put an episode of something on during a lie in. I love it.

margotrose · 18/10/2023 20:02

What would be wrong about it? We've always had a TV in our room.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 18/10/2023 20:02

This is MN so I'm surprised you haven't already been called childish, told TVs in bedrooms are evil, only lower class does it etc...

Personally, go for it. One of the great things about being an adult is being able to do things you wanted to as a child but couldn't

NalafromtheLionKing · 18/10/2023 20:02

Do it! Enjoy

I LOVE having a TV in the bedroom. Me and DH often watch an easy watch comedy or reality type TV show together before sleep. I love getting into bed and watching a TV show on a weekend whilst DH watches football downstairs.

Ragwort · 18/10/2023 20:04

I was exactly the same for years but during Lockdown (in my early 60s) when we were all stuck at home I finally relented and moved the tv from the 'playroom' (DS was 19 by then!) into my bedroom. I did feel a bit 'guilty' at the time as I'd always been anti tvs in bedrooms but it just made sense when we couldn't agree what to watch. DH and I are now both retired and this afternoon, a miserable wet day, it meant we could happily watch our own choice of programme.

I’m not a TV in the bedroom person. We occasionally bring one in but that’s it. Though I can see the appeal on the colder nights!

NoMoreShit · 18/10/2023 20:05

I've got a TV, a mini fridge, a posh coffee machine & a decanter set of my fave port in my bedroom. It's my escape room.

Ragwort · 18/10/2023 20:05

I couldn't bear to watch tv in bed with my DH though, that does seem wrong to me, even in a hotel we would never watch tv in bed Grin.

Bananaman123 · 18/10/2023 20:06

Always have tv in bedroom and although I don’t use it much I like it for when I’m unwell and if I decide to have a slow morning, coffee in bed and news or something on. Great if I want a really early night too

TeachesOfPeaches · 18/10/2023 20:07

I use an iPad

Amazing!

Flamingogirl08 · 18/10/2023 20:09

I'm in bed right now with a cuppa watching the bake off and listening to the bad weather outside. All snuggly and cosy. Love it

QueenBitch666 · 18/10/2023 20:10

I swore I'd never have a tv in my room. Had one installed when illness confined me to bed for several months. Absolute life saver.

Tiredmum100 · 18/10/2023 20:11

If you want one, go for it. We used to have a TV in our bedroom. I used to love going to bed to watch TV. We stopped once we had the dc, and we'd stay downstairs so we didn't wake them after they'd gone to bed. We've since moved, and haven't got a TV in our bedroom now... but I do like the sound of it.

I don't even know you but I aspire to be you!

We have a TV and it's lovely for evening chilling out especially when it gets colder. Why sit on the sofa when you can lie in bed.

HundredMilesAnHour · 18/10/2023 20:13

I have a big TV in my bedroom. It's perfect for early / late nights when I want to either cuddle up and watch a film or if I'm sucked into something that is going to finish late and I know that means I'll fall asleep on the sofa and wake up at 3am. 🙄So now I have Sky Q in the bedroom and can just swap to the bedroom to finish watching so I actually fall asleep in my bed. Love it!

MattDamon · 18/10/2023 20:14

I had one hung on the bedroom wall right before Covid. It's probably the only reason my OH and I are still together. 😄

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/10/2023 20:16

Studies show you get less sleep and have less sex with a TV in the bedroom. So I wouldn't Grin

Less sex is physically impossible, so we can remove that from the list of cons straight off Grin

I manage to prioritise both those things over the TV and still enjoy having one in my room, particularly when the teens have people over and I want to give them some space.

Excitingnewusername · 18/10/2023 20:19

I had a TV in my bedroom for most of my adult life due to living in shared houses, never considered not having one. When DH and I moved in together about 10 year ago we decided not to have one in the bedroom (he has always been a no TV in the bedroom person).

I've never really missed it as I can use my laptop if I really want to (but only have done that 3 or 4 times over the years), but right now I'd suddenly bloody love to be watching Bake Off in bed rather than sitting on the sofa. And on a proper telly away from the bed, not a laptop balanced on the other pillow.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/10/2023 20:20

LOL @bigcheeseygrin what constitutes negative amounts of sex? Grin
