To get a tv in my bedroom at 41 years old?

I've never had a tv in my bedroom, apart from when I was a child, and then it was purely set up for my games console.

I wasn't allowed one in my room as a teenager, and now it does feel like it would be wrong to have one in there!

But... I don't enjoy watching tv in my living room. I can't lounge properly the way it's set up.

Does anyone else feel that tv's have no place in the bedroom? Or am I missing out by not have doing it years ago?

Why does your age matter

TheChosenTwo · 18/10/2023 22:00

Wouldn’t be without ours.
Dh and I don’t watch tv together as we like different things. We actually have more TVs in our house than people!
Love getting into bed late at night and putting on an episode of something. And having the news on while I’m getting ready for work.
Lazy weekend mornings etc etc.
You’re an adult, you get to write your own narrative!

To me it would feel as weird a set up as having a fridge-freezer or a dining table in a bedroom, but I only have a TV in any room because of DH and DS.

Though I once lived for a year in a friend’s house while she was on sabbatical, and she kept a black and white portable (her only tv) in a wardrobe upstairs. If you really wanted to watch something you had to fish it out and balance it on something near a plug. So I suppose I have had a tv in my bedroom, kind of …

Updated my bedroom tv to a bigger one in lockdown - love it. It’s so nice to go upstairs and chill. Get one.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 18/10/2023 22:08

do it if you want to, just be careful it doesn't affect your sleep

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 18/10/2023 22:08

I never had one until I was 44. It was just wrong and ugly and bleurgh. Big black rectangle in an otherwise cream / white room.

Nut then DH got a bigger one for the living room and I didn’t want to throw away the old one. Too old for anyone to buy it off us. So it went into our room.

I LOVE IT. I don’t need to negotiate programmes with DH anymore, or put up with him snorting and scoffing through Bridgerton etc. We don’t read the same books at the same time, listen to the same music at the same time. Why should we watch the same TV shows at the same time?

I love my bedroom TV.

The little kids use it when they wake up early to watch something while I doze.

The teenager and I use it once the little ones have gone to bed to watch our programmes together.

I'm about to be in the newborn stage again and I'm quite excited about spending the first few weeks snuggled up in bed watching crappy reality TV!

gamerchick · 18/10/2023 22:12

You're a grown up, you can do what you want OP Grin

i don't have one in my bedroom, but have a nice comfortable setup in the spare room if I'm ever stuck in bed for a time. Sometimes they are useful.

megletthesecond · 18/10/2023 22:23

I've always had a TV in my room. In my current house my room is SO much warmer than the living room so it's easier to relax in bed.

caringcarer · 18/10/2023 22:47

You're an adult you can do as you please. Whatever makes you happy.

I've** got a full size under counter fridge, kettle and tea making materials. Biscuits, chocolate, wine and glasses, cans of Appletiser and a big fuck if telly in my room. I don't drink coffee btw

Nice.

TigerQueenie · 18/10/2023 22:50

I don't like TVs in the bedroom and won't have one anywhere except the living room.

But if you want one then get one!

caringcarer · 18/10/2023 22:51

I have a large TV in our bedroom but never really watch it. I did watch it when I was in bed for over a week with Covid though. I also watched it when Olympics are on in a country with different time zones.

Theoldwoman · 18/10/2023 22:56

I only got a tv in my bedroom during Covid, so 2020. I was 50. I also got them 8n my young adult kids rooms as gifts. They were 19 and 17 at the time. They were certainly the last in their friendship groups to have tvs in their bedrooms.

They all get used a lot.

HardcoreLadyType · 18/10/2023 22:59

I wouldn’t want a tv in my bedroom, but, honestly, you are a grownup. If you would like it, go for it!

cocksstrideintheevening · 18/10/2023 23:04

Love my tv bed setup. Tv is big enough I don't need to wear glasses or contacts, comfy as. Why wouldn't I?!

Wonkasworld · 18/10/2023 23:06

Love mine, especially watching TV when I've got my electric blanket on.

hattie43 · 18/10/2023 23:06

Having a tv in the bedroom is no different to a hotel room tbh , I use my laptop to watch Netflix in bed when it's just so much cosier than the lounge .

DogDaysAreOverr · 18/10/2023 23:30

A Smart TV can also be used to stream music, listen to podcasts etc.

I personally love having a bath, relaxing in bed with a documentary or comedy etc. as part of a wind down routine.

Go for it and you can always return it or sell it on if you hate it..
