AIBU to believe FIL time slip experience?

FIL was round yesterday evening for dinner with his wife. We were talking about the Uncanny podcast & recent TV episode then he told us of two experiences he'd had in the same place a number of years apart. After I went & did some research & asked a couple questions today, he's told us of another experience he had in the same place that was similar to one of the other experiences but that happened when he as a child.

I'm quite sceptical about paranormal type events I guess because I've never witnessed anything myself but am generally quite open minded. I don't believe FIL to be the type to make this sort of thing up & he was almost unwilling to tell us in case we thought he was crazy. He's never told anyone before.

AIBU to think what he experienced could've been real? In one of the instances he interacted with people in the past, his recall was quite genuine & he had some significant detail that you couldn't just make up. Has anyone else experienced a time slip or some other paranormal event they couldn't explain? I'm intrigued!

Pretty much everyone carries a phone with a camera and video these days. If time slips did happen the first thing most people would do is get their phone out.

@elsiesbonnet Bold St is known for time slips. I go loads and never experienced one, think it would scare me to death! I have read about other people’s experiences there. My hairdresser is there and I always hope nothing happens when I go to the loo in the shop!

I came across Bold St when I was looking for info on FILs experience. I agree, I think I'd be terrified if it happened to me. When I was a teen my friends once did a ouija board when we were having a sleepover & I refused to talk part. Not because I believe it but because if on the off chance something creepy did happen, I'd be absolutely shaken to the core!

What ‘research’ did you do? Do you mean ‘googling’?

Sorry, should I have gone the local library and looked at newspaper clippings?

What about what he said couldn’t be made up?

I haven't said it couldn't be made up. I just said it'd be unlike him as he's not that type of person. Generally quite cautious, serious and straight forward.

@Hidingawaytoday it's so weird isn't it? Seeing something like that. I'll be intrigued if you do end up with two DC and if you'll recognise the moment if they run around you in-laws house!

Timetravlerswife · 15/10/2023 20:49

So I thought I experienced a time slip about 15 years ago. I’ve never spoken about it to anyone and just thought I was abit mental or had an episode. Funny enough this was by bold street in Liverpool. Dose anyone have any information about this or where to look for stories ??

junbean · 15/10/2023 20:52

I do believe in the possibilities of all kinds of things. There's so much we don't know and science can't explain yet.

That being said, my dad has had episodes just like this and he has dissociative disorder brought on by stress and overwork. Not insinuating anything, just very similar sounding. It also sounds like other stories I've heard that were totally unexplainable.

Hidingawaytoday · 15/10/2023 20:52

@Weddingpuzzle it really is - it gave me the shivers when it happened. Just really odd.

Pewpewbarneymcgrew · 15/10/2023 20:52

Google Bold St time slips, there’s quite a few stories

Pewpewbarneymcgrew · 15/10/2023 20:53

@Timetravlerswife please tell us what happened !

buckeejit · 15/10/2023 20:54

I'm fascinated by time slips. Think I would love to experience one. Mainly because they don't last long by all accounts. I believe in plenty of woo & there's too many stories for me to dismiss

Thanks for highlighting this. Something to take note of & bear in mind x

Was FIL leaving the Rose and Crown at the time?

Divebar2021 · 15/10/2023 20:58

If you know him to be a serious / sensible person then I would believe him. Where is the benefit in going out your way to disbelieve him? The whole world will disbelieve him. Maybe it was some kind of hallucination / brain storm - we are unlikely to be able to prove nor disprove it so believe him. Much more exciting.

Graciebobcat · 15/10/2023 20:59

Well, it's likely real in that he's not making it up, unless he is generally untruthful. But it's unlikely to have been time travel.

Well, if an actual journalist had felt strongly enough about the existence of time slips at a particular location to interview multiple people, on the record, who claimed it happened to them, and checked for common strands in their supposed experiences etc, you don’t think it might be a teensy bit more convincing than the frothings of a randomer on paranormal_subteddit?

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 15/10/2023 21:00

elsiesbonnet · 15/10/2023 20:20

The two most recent events were connected to his work so I'm not sure I can give too much away without checking with him. But it involved a particular location kind of morphing into how it would've been a long time ago & and in one instance, the people there wondering what his tools were & what he was doing (as they didn't have such tech then!)

Goodnight Sweetheart.

Up until I was about 12 I quite often had dreams (at night whilst in bed) that then happened some months or years later. And a few more in my late teens too.
eg I would have a dream featuring people Id never met before and then sometime later........... Id meet those people/person. Very weird and unsettling!
Sounds different to what you are describing though op.

Of course you’re not being unreasonable. There’s nothing to say it’s not possible

What would be the scientific mechanism that would make this possible?

whynotwhatknot · 15/10/2023 21:06

is he an epsidoe of goodnight sweetheart

i wish it was possible

I had a weird experience. I couldn't sleep so I went downstairs and laid on my sofa. I definitely wasn't asleep as I can see, smell and feel every moment but I saw myself (older) stood next to a stove that was built into the chimney breast in a dim room. It was cold, grey and rainy outside. I was stirring homemade potato & leek soup. I was wearing a grey jumper and a long cord skirt. My hair was much more wiry than it is now and was white. I was plumper than I am now. I was talking to DS1 who was wearing baggy trousers and a ripped jumper and boots with the laces untied and no socks, he had his arms folded. He was older, mid to late thirties and thinner. DH was doing something with an oily tool at a wooden kitchen table. It felt cosy and like we lived in a countryside cottage on our own land.

We don't have a big kitchen with a stove in a chimney breast, DS1 has just turned 20 and we live in a small Yorkshire mill town in a terraced house on a street with loads of other houses. I never make soup lol. I am pretty sure I glimpsed a bit of my life in the future.

I'm an NHS health researcher and not very woo at all but I do seem to predict things and knew my Nanna was going to die, my friends brother's house was going to be burgled and my son was getting jumped (I rang him and he was). Very odd, don't like to think about it too much!

You didn't see yourself in the future. You had a dream.

elsiesbonnet · 15/10/2023 21:08

@Graciebobcat perhaps, but who honestly has time for that these days. Actually my "research" was related to the area and if what he experienced fitted how it was laid out prior and if there were any significant events that also corroborated what he saw. It did. Not to say he couldn't have known that himself already.

I also "googled" if anyone had experienced any similar time slips in the same location to no avail.

obvs I name changed btw just don’t want linked to other threads of mine. I am not a nut case. Me and my ex where in town walking by the bombed out church (top of bold street) it was really really quiet day we walked in to a toy shop which didn’t sell modern toys everything was really old fashioned including the shopkeeper. We had a look around and when we walked out we were both just like that was weird it didn’t seem of this time. We are both from Liverpool and know the city well. We were just like we will never find this place again. We did look and never did we both agreed it was just strange. Obvs didn’t think it was a time slip but you never know 🤷🏼‍♀️
