To think Starmer seriously needs a better haircut

The current hair is just awful, a weird 50s throwback style. Why isn't the Labour party hiring people to style him to look (and sound) professional for leadership? It's not enough these days just to be yourself and jog along. It's serious.

@jgw1 / not sure you are bowling the right wicket there, but Gove always was a master of deliberate ambiguity.

Surely Gove and his hare are everyone's favourite Tory?

Moonbowlspoon · 12/10/2023 21:44

I revile the Tories and everything they stand for but for some reason I find it difficult to dislike Michael Gove. I have no idea why, it defies all logic.

etmoietmoietmoi · 12/10/2023 02:29

Our last PM looked like he brushed his hair with a knife and fork and he seemed to be pretty popular.

This is why the electorate get the people the vote for. No charisma, not 'fun' bad hair cut.....
Exactly.

It was one of the reasons for his initial popularity. People mistook his casual look to mean he was a blokey bloke, 'one of us'. It was a calculated move, by Johnson, to affect this casual look.

The man.

bombastix · 12/10/2023 21:48

@jgw1 - honestly I have a soft spot for him and he is both witty and charming in person. He is the kind of person you could throw into a room of Guardian reading Prosecco liberals and he would emerge with a stack of dinner invites.

Which polls, OP? The polls have confirmed that Labour has had a consistent 16-20+ points lead over the Tories for a long time now.

47% think he's doing badly as Labour leader

How well is Keir Starmer doing as Labour leader?

Do you think Keir Starmer is doing well or badly as leader of the Labour party?

Fgs get a grip... how can you judge a politician on his haircut

jgw1 · 12/10/2023 21:50

RogueFemale · 12/10/2023 21:48

That is because he doesn't have But Jeremy Corbyn's hair or Govey, Govey Govey's sex appeal.

RogueFemale · 12/10/2023 02:15

This isn't a discussion of Labour policies, but about looking the part to get elected. Starmer needs a better haircut to be taken seriously by voters across the board. Polling says people are doubtful about him, and part of it is because of how he looks.

Rubbish

RogueFemale · 12/10/2023 21:51

Seaitoverthere · 12/10/2023 08:08

There isn’t anything wrong with his hair is there?! It’s just another Starmer bashing thread that some people like to post.

Bit similar to when Ed Milliband was got at for eating a Bacon sandwich. Bacon sarnies and haircuts are a big no no but selecting a candidate such as Johnson who at the time of selection had been sacked for lying twice is apparently fine . Sunak’s millionaire wife potentially benefiting from policies the Government introduced is ok but oh my goodness someone thinks Starmer has a dodgy haircut (dodgy haircut being in the eye of the beholder).

I am pro-Starmer. I am saying this to actually help, not bash him.

Fact is, he urgently needs a makeover. Anyone who thinks looks don't matter is naive.

I’m not sure you’ll get consensus on mn op

Even the last Labour leader gets good PR on this thread (maybe not on other ones given current affairs)

Papillon23 · 12/10/2023 08:53

I don't think it can be the haircut unless you have a similar problem with Rishi.

Ah, yes, whataboutery. This is about Starmer, don't give a fuck about Sunak.

bombastix · 12/10/2023 21:59

To get really shallow frankly he looked better in his shirt sleeves and with a bit of glitter in his hair at conference than he did in his barrister style.

However, not sure a haircut will make that much difference with the electorate!

RogueFemale · 12/10/2023 21:59

Fightyouforthatpie · 12/10/2023 10:24

Can you post a link to the polls about his haircut please?

No, but here's a link to his personal approval rating. 47% say he's doing badly as leader. https://yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/trackers/keir-starmer-approval-rating

I don’t give a shiny what his hair looks like. Neither should you. If you were commenting on a female MO, you’d be turn to shreds and rightly so. Grow up and engage your brain.

His instant reaction to the man with the glitter was excellent. Clearly a reasonable man.

I made this post because I want him to do better. Anyone who thinks looks don't matter in the context of political leaders is naive. I would say the same if Starmer were female with a bad hairdo.

His party are running away in the polls. There was one before the conference that predicted a bigger majority than 1997.

His speech has been praised almost universally.

He looks serious and professional.

I think he’s doing OK.

bombastix · 12/10/2023 22:05

Yes he's fine. Doing better than his opponent which is the key. Keep doing that, Labour will win

RogueFemale · 12/10/2023 22:09

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 12/10/2023 10:34

I like Starmer’s hair. There’s a ‘50s matinee idol vibe about it. And it’s not too different from Rishi Sunak’s anyway.

It’s Starmer’s ‘timid accountant’ nasal voice I can’t bear. (And the jargony, sound-bitey retread-Blair direction of Labour now.)

As for ‘we need dullness right now’. Surely Sunak fits that bill?

Yes, the voice could be improved, too. Thatcher did it, got elocution lessons and got her hair changed. It is not a big big deal, this sort of thing happens often, but Starmer apparently immune to the idea he might just improve his image a bit to appeal to more voters.

I've heard it all now !! The country is falling apart and you think he should have a different haircut 🙄

Yes, because it could make him more appealing to voters. There are a millions of people who don't bother to vote.

RogueFemale · 12/10/2023 22:16

Hangryhen · 12/10/2023 15:08

He's got a pronounced cows lick to one side of the forehead, so there aren't a lot of ways to cut it that would look smart and professional, which it does. He couldn't have a fringe, or a more central Parting. It could be blow dryed into a different shape but the first hint of moisture it would be back how it is.

There are professionals out there who could find a solution!

You think the people who don’t turn out to vote will be motivated to do so by Kier Starmer getting a new hairstyle?

bombastix · 12/10/2023 22:17

This thread is a bit like when men say "smile love". Except it's the leader of the Labour Party.

"You could look lovely if you did your hair nice. Be PM and everything."
