What's the cheekiest thing you have seen in a Facebook selling / give away group?

Inspired by a recent post in one of my locals, where someone posted a fairly mature cherry blossom tree, asking if anyone would like it for free, but they would have to dig it up out of the garden first. So essentially they were looking for a free tree surgeon 😀

OP posts:

People who never say please or thank you.
People who constantly respond with 'I'll take it', 'can you deliver?' (when you've already said you can't).
People who expect valuable items for stupidly cheap prices.
People who expect to get 99% of the price back on items they have owned and used for years.
People who start slagging off other sellers/buyers.
People who say 'PM for price'.......

BananaSlug · 11/10/2023 15:18

People asking for delivery on free give away groups

Rockschooldropout · 11/10/2023 15:21

Someone who advertised paving slabs with a picture of a decrepit vast patio saying buyer to remove as slabs in situ .. so basically wanted a free landscaper to take out their old patio

Rockschooldropout · 11/10/2023 15:23

The best one was more recently when someone posted a hideous 1980s pub bench with fabric seat that had been clearly custom made to fit and was neither use nor ornament to anyone . Plus it was filthy … for £500 !!! …. Because it had been in an AA rosette hotel 🤣🤣🤣

Bluevelvetsofa · 11/10/2023 15:35

So many asking for free furniture/ white goods.

Theunamedcat · 11/10/2023 15:39

Free furniture like a "chest "o" draweres" must be grey/black ikea brand new delivered to xyz address immediately thnx

Topofthemountain · 11/10/2023 15:39

Someone asked for a Brand New / As New Fridge / freezer in silver, and wanted it delivering to their upper floor flat as they were disabled.

It was a free page.

LakeTiticaca · 11/10/2023 15:42

There was one just a couple of days ago. Someone advertising a very large leather corner suite, 9 years old and had cost 3 grand (allegedly) it was in absolute shit state and they wanted 400 quid for it.
The comments were hilarious 😂

Beargrumps22 · 11/10/2023 15:42

I hate it when they play the sympathy card i.e. desperately need whatever for a single parent/pensioner/ disabled person I am not saying they are not genuine probably most are but it is the sort of thing that could be used wrongly for people who have nothing wrong

HaveIlostIt · 11/10/2023 15:43

Anything going for a price, where the post has the phrase "need gone" on it.

SpoonerChasm · 11/10/2023 15:47

My cheekiest fucker was someone collecting an old TV Ariel. I left it out for her (doorstep collecting during covid).

She knocked on the door and tried to walk past me telling me she would have a look around to see what else she fancied.

My Dh is immunosuppressed so once I picked my jaw off the floor I told her to GTF. She started shouting at me for being selfish. She's lucky I didn't set the dogs on her. 🐕

alloalloallo · 11/10/2023 15:48

On my local horse Facebook group someone was looking for someone to part loan their retired pony - financial contribution required, no riding.

I had to read it twice as I wasn’t sure I’d got the right end of the stick.

Someone was actually looking for someone mug enough to muck out, feed, etc, etc their non-ridden pony while paying the owner for the privilege. Loans are pretty common, but for ridden horses.

Turned into a massive bun fight in the end which kept me entertained while DH had taken over the TV with the rugby

Crunchingleaf · 11/10/2023 15:58

The drama of the local groups is off the scales.

In our local free one there was people who would take loads of things and it was really suspicious to see the same names over and over again. Like how many kitchen tables does one person need. Turns out some of them were putting them up for sale. There is also a couple local landlords who are furnishing their rental properties with free stuff off Facebook. Lots of things are too good to throw out so at least they are being used instead of going to landfills.

Then there are the ones constantly looking for stuff. A couple people have started putting website links to where they can buy it themselves in the comments for the repeat offenders.

See this wouldn’t bother me, if I’m giving away something for free it’s because I haven’t got the energy to sell it and don’t think I’ll get enough to make it worth my while. If someone else wants to take unwanted stuff off my hands and sell it or furnish a rented place with it I’m ok with that. Different if they are advertising that they urgently need Something with a sob story attached of course…

TigerRag · 11/10/2023 16:08

People posting very vague details and all the comments are basically asking for price and location. Someone did ask what it was they were selling as the "description" was just "5x".

Redlarge · 11/10/2023 16:10

I sold a bundle of clothes worth a fortune. Just wanted it gone and sold it to someone for buttons. Later that night she listed all the items individually for more than what she paid for it all. I was glad it was gone. But it was cheeky

NonMiDispiace · 11/10/2023 16:17

Manky, saggy sofas and stained mattresses that people don’t want to pay to have taken to the tip.
Occasionally they’re dumped on the pavement with a ‘free’ notice pinned to them.
Wtf anyone would think that someone else would like them beats me.
The most recent was a tv without any picture.

Mydogisagentleman · 11/10/2023 16:19

In ours, it appears one woman has multiple young adult children moving out.
The list of what they need free to get them started is staggering.
She specified how big a flat screen tv should be, and, only a black glass tv stand

Pebblesflintstoneandbambamrubble · 11/10/2023 16:28

Not me but a friend

He put up his lizards tank-the lizard had died at this point-and this tank thingy was massive

Anyway,he cleaned it up and put it up-a bloke messaged asking if my Friend could deliver it for £30 petrol on top of the asking price as the bloke claimed to be disabled-he clearly said he was in a wheelchair-and that he lived in a house

Somehow,my fella got roped in to deliver it a few miles away (I was at work and hes a soft idiot who had just been made redundant so every penny counted at this point)

Hometime rolled round,I came out of work, only to find dp waiting for me,looking knackered and fed up

They'd delivered it to the address-what this fella hadn't told them was that he lived in the top floor flat of a high rise building-he'd lied about living in a house

Friend and dp had lugged this massive tank all the way up the stairs-apparently took about half an hour, got to the top and this young bloke answered the door

They thought he might have been the son of the bloke buying it,but nope,he was the buyer-no wheelchair in sight

He started to look it over and tried to knock a few quid off the asking price (£30 funnily enough),was soon put in his place, paid up and they parted ways

It was so cheeky from start to finish-if he'd been honest, they could have come to some agreement over lugging it up the stairs

EvilElsa · 11/10/2023 16:28

Someone advertising their horse for a share agreement. They wanted an experienced rider to pay THEM £60 a week to "share" a newly started 16.2hh 4 year old. The rider had to be capable of training a young horse and preferably experienced at dressage. They would not be allowed to hack out, only school. Not allowed to attend competitions as the owner would be doing that. They would be expected to muck out on their days and poo pick the field. So basically they wanted someone to train and look after their horse for them 3 days a week and pay for the privilege. I commented with the web page of a local (paid) trainer and suggested they try him if they wanted someone to school their horse. I got a huffy reply and funnily enough nobody took them up on their offer and they took down the ad after people commented with laughing emojis.

Danikm151 · 11/10/2023 16:30

When the price is marked as free but the description says “not free” PM me with offers.

businesses selling items or a link to their website - i report those

Poorlymumma · 11/10/2023 16:31

I tried to give something away recently and the woman messaged me at the last minute to say she couldn't come anymore because she had "had covid for a couple of days and starting to feel weird again so I'll leave it thanks" so she was going to come to my home knowing she was positive for covid! I know that people don't care about it as much anymore but still.

Puffalicious · 11/10/2023 16:36

The ones on bartering sites wanting 'bottles of branded alcohol & large washing powder or large candles ' for a raggle taggle of kitchen items (breadbin/ odd mugs/ mismatched crockery).

MissDemelzaCarne · 11/10/2023 16:48

I was daft enough to acquire a ‘free’ double bed for DD when she came back home.
I went and collected it with DS and took them a tin of biscuits to say thank you.
We then discovered it was broken, they obviously just wanted to avoid a trip to the tip. 😤

I don't think your example is cheeky really. Both parties are getting something they want. Mature trees cost a fortune so if you wanted one and were relatively strong and owned a shovel and appropriate transport you'd have a great deal!
