What's the cheekiest thing you have seen in a Facebook selling / give away group?

Inspired by a recent post in one of my locals, where someone posted a fairly mature cherry blossom tree, asking if anyone would like it for free, but they would have to dig it up out of the garden first. So essentially they were looking for a free tree surgeon 😀

Slightly different take but I get soooo annoyed when there’s a perfectly informative FB ad for a job. Clearly stating how to find out more; pm your details, send your cv to X, etc. there are always people who just comment ‘more info’
OMG can you not read? You are deffo not getting the job! Probably why they are still looking 🙄

Ohh yes we have a woman on our job pages who just writes 'interested' on every single job ad....what the hell is the point in that?

Someone advertising "lego building service" and "price depending on number of pieces". Starting from £10. Basically looking to build other people's lego and get paid.

That seems daft, but my Dad would probably use that service. He collects Star Wars Lego. Has models on display but not enough time to build it all.

I thought it could be a good service for someone who had accidentally knocked a kids prize model of the shelf!

Lego building service sounds like a good idea

We once gave away 2 sheds (three in garden when we moved in, only needed one!) but only if the people wanting them could come and dismantle them.

We didn't have the tools and actually it would be better for the person to be taking them down to know how to put it back up again. (Or to make the mistakes in dismantling the sheds)

A shed is expensive so I think it was a good deal.

Off topic, but this reminded me of the time Dp tidied up a garden for someone who was selling their house (which had been rented out for years), including taking down a shed which had been built over the boundary. He took me to see it as he wanted it for home but wanted to see if I thought it would be too big. I offered the owner money for it as it seemed cheeky to take it even though it wouls just have been burnt otherwise. She said no, but then worried she should offer money to dp to take it. It was sweet how we were both desperate not to be CFs.

I am not going to bother giving stuff away free in future after the hassle of giving away a really decent sofa last year. At least 7-8 people just didn’t turn up to collect it ! This stretched over a couple of weeks and I was furious!

There’s someone on our local group who every day for the last few weeks has been posting an ad for “professional photo shoots” but the accompanying pictures are worse than your average person would take with one of those disposable cameras from the 1990s. He’s not had a single like or comment and yet every day the post reappears.

You might be near me!

I always feel frustrated at two women on my estate who, every time someone gives away ANYTHING, they are the first ones to snatch it up.
I understand people are short of money but if it's not one it's the other- furniture, toys, clothes, food. Feels like they're so quick to grab everything they're not sparing a thought for anyone else who might be in need. There's only so much stuff a family needs!

RandomUsernameHere · 12/10/2023 16:13

I always find it really odd when people are selling something and they put "need gone ASAP" on the listing. That's entirely their problem, not anyone else's!

BookishBabe · 12/10/2023 17:05

I follower a vinted Facebook group, had a recent post of:
"I'm really poor and struggling, bought my little girl christmas presents throughout the year but she's now out grown them before Christmas. Can someone buy them off my vinted page so this mummy can afford new Christmas presents for her daughter."
And yet her vinted was so many duplicates of the same item, 13 of the same cocomelon toys, 16 of the same advent calendar, 22 of the same bluey jigsaw 🙄

I just hate sob stories, and they're worse when they are lies that are really easy to spot.

Nbobun · 12/10/2023 19:17

My DS would love to come and build your dad's lego, and earn pocket money 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2023 20:54

When I offer stuff for free on local Fb page

I state where collection is

To then get people saying yes online

Then they message me to ask if I can deliver as they don't drive /I'm too far away etx

It's a firm no from me

I then put on the post that xxx has passed so next person is welcome to it

And often starts again

Or

They say they are coming to pick something up

They forget

Don't make it

Then ignore my messages asking is still want it

Then get stroppy when I offer to next on the list

loseweightpleasegod · 12/10/2023 20:57

We always give our stuff to the charity shops they pick up big pieces of furniture too. The FB pages always seem so grabby.

girlfriend44 · 12/10/2023 21:07

I take into charity shops mostly.

On occasion when I've offered stuff free they haven't turned up
Rather a charity got something for it.
