What's the cheekiest thing you have seen in a Facebook selling / give away group?

Inspired by a recent post in one of my locals, where someone posted a fairly mature cherry blossom tree, asking if anyone would like it for free, but they would have to dig it up out of the garden first. So essentially they were looking for a free tree surgeon 😀

A friend was selling a marble outside seating set. Table plus 2 benches . Clearly stated in capitals on the advert that the buyer would need a man with a van , at least 2 people to move ect. Lady comes to view, likes it enough to leave a deposit- friend again repeats that it will take at least 2 people to move it with a oroper moving trolley ect. Lady agrees to arrange collection for the following weekend. She then turns up in her Ford Fusion and expects my 84vyear old friend to help her. Then when refunded the deposiit goes on FB to slate my friend!!

Portakalkedi · 11/10/2023 16:55

Someone asking for a solid oak coffee table which must be delivered as they only have a small car, all for free of course.

Portakalkedi · 11/10/2023 16:58

Re previous post, I have always stated where necessary that an item is heavy, will need 2 people to collect etc, so of course one person turns up and my DH has to help manoeuvre item into their car, or if it's a woman they stand by and let him do it. He now does not make an appearance during these times, and as I am disable I'm not helping them. Cheeky twats.

There is this one woman who is constantly on the look out for freebies...anyone got this or that ..ta hun...love it chick...thanks mummies 🤮

However whenever she needs to get rid of anything she always sells it, never ever gives anything away...

Makes me so mad 😠 I have now blocked her.

Bimbimmer · 11/10/2023 17:01

@maryberryslayers I agree - same with the slabs example - they both sound like win-win to me 🤷🏼‍♀️

maybe she is very poor and can't give it away for free.

maddiemookins16mum · 11/10/2023 17:03

This on our local “spotted’ page 3 hours ago.

’just moved to new place, need bed, TV and freezer’.

That was it.

Several people sent the link to Argos.

jannier · 11/10/2023 17:08

Pushchairs and car seats that come with free food amongst much other dirt.

onwardandupwards · 11/10/2023 17:11

Someone was giving away a bag of school uniform it stated that it all needed a good wash as being end of summer term there was no point her washing it if she was getting rid anyway, no one took it, same person tried to sell a high chair absolutely plastered in dried on food and stated it needed a quick wipe down 😬

ohdamnitjanet · 11/10/2023 17:11

I know this isn’t a selling page tale but it fits the CF theme.
Bought a new TV, put the old one in the new box and left outside for the dustmen the next day. Fairly predictably by the morning it had been nicked.
In the evening the chap who stole it knocked and asked if I had the remote control as it wasn’t in the box…
Reader I laughed him down the path

Cakecakecheese · 11/10/2023 17:18

During lockdown when the weather was nice someone was selling an inflatable hot tub for an inflated price, about £200 over the RRP, because it was sold out online. The post was removed quite quickly due to the WTF? type comments.

Aroundtown · 11/10/2023 17:21

Love this thread 😂
Really it’s the choosing beggars that get me ‘looking for good condition corner sofa free or very cheap, preferably leather, don’t drive will need to be delivered’ without even saying please or thank you.
I had someone ask for measurements for a table & chairs I was giving away for free, I said sorry there’s been about 2 dozen requests for it already so I’m taking the post down, she said ‘can you not just use a tape measure?’ maybe she didn’t understand what I’d said 🤔

Illbebythesea · 11/10/2023 17:22

I mean, trees are really expensive. Especially mature ones - so I think just having to dig it out in return for it for free is fine!

Holidaylover68 · 11/10/2023 17:22

Slightly different take but I get soooo annoyed when there’s a perfectly informative FB ad for a job. Clearly stating how to find out more; pm your details, send your cv to X, etc. there are always people who just comment ‘more info’
OMG can you not read? You are deffo not getting the job! Probably why they are still looking 🙄

PTSDBarbiegirl · 11/10/2023 17:27

Manky pair of trainers.

Abitslow · 11/10/2023 17:34

On ours it was.
Im a single mum and have nothing in my flat i need everything i can pick up.
Well alot of people jumped to help.
I sent a pic of a small book shelf free.
Messaged back no its not what im looking for fair enough.
A week later the same mum asked for said book shelf i sent a pick of it in bits standing near my bin.
Turns out she had done this before and was well known for her post every few weeks saying the same thing.
So many came forward to say something one lady offered a tv but it was not big enough and the wrong colour.
Looking for a washing machine someone that had known what she was like sent her a pic of the launderette.

Fairymother · 11/10/2023 17:50

I put something on for free once to pick up. Someone asked if i could send it and i said yes, if they pay postage. Caught a load of abuse because im grabby.

DIYandEatCake · 11/10/2023 18:02

Gave away a lovely baby rocking chair thing on a ‘community gifting’ page to someone who said they had no car so couldn’t collect, drove over with it to find a BMW on the drive, they didn’t even say ‘thank you’ and despite asking to have it as their baby ‘desperately needed’ a rocking seat, they posted it for sale on another group that same evening. I felt taken for a mug and have never gifted anything on that site since.

TBH, if you left the old TV out for the bin men (am v surprised they would take it, but maybe it's different where you live) then it didn't get "nicked". You'd got rid of it, someone else wanted it.

I thought it was fairly understood that leaving furniture/items out is saying "please help yourself if you want". In that case, the guy asking for the remote isnt being cheeky at all.

Almondandhoney · 11/10/2023 18:06

Someone getting married on a budget, but they were desperate for a live band not a disco...so would there be a band available for an hour for free, so as to raise their profile? They got totally roasted and removed their post.

Illbebythesea · 11/10/2023 18:06

@DIYandEatCake ouch, some people?! Dragged up.

amiold · 11/10/2023 18:06

A local competition site (although seems to be becoming popular across the country) has tens of thousands of followers. The bloke who runs it is doing well, brand new massive house, it's him and his partners only job now, lots of foreign holidays, nice cars etc.... he asked for ten restaurants/cafes to come forward and he would go and review their food and rate it on his page to boost their businesses because of his followers.

Like he will be struggling less than little local restaurants and what if he didn't like the food.. they'd have given him food for a bad review 😂 I haven't seen any reviews so I'm assuming it didn't take off.

Illbebythesea · 11/10/2023 18:09

Not market place but I know someone who set up a go fund me to allow them to ‘chase their dream’ (niche hobbie they wanted to turn into a proffesion) when they owned a house, had a big wedding and a baby, had a job. Like if it’s your dream sell your house 🤣 no I want to keep all these things & you fund my dream…

sayanythingelse · 11/10/2023 18:18

We've got a lot of popular freebie groups near us. The one for our village is great, I've got some really good stuff and given lots away. I've seen "free treehouse/shed/paving slabs, must be dismantled" but if stuff is in good condition, then I see it as win-win for both parties.

I'm in a different group for the town I work in though and I've seen many posts saying "I'm moving in to a new house and I need a double bed, mattress, wardrobe, cooker, fridge freezer, microwave, TV, dining table, vacuum, washer, plates, cutlery and ladies clothes in a size 12. Also I don't drive, so you must be able to deliver" ... yeah right😂

verdantverdure · 11/10/2023 18:21

A request for a car.

They stipulated a long MOT and in good working order, big enough to put dogs in the boot, "doesn't have to be completely free but it would be nice"
