AIBU to think a Tiffany heart tag necklace will be loved by a 12 year old ?

My DH is quite unwell, worryingly so. He wants to get a personal gift for our 12 year old girl as a life-long momento for her from him. He asked for my advice and I have suggested one of the iconic Tiffany heart tag necklaces, which can be personalised on the reverse. Is this the kind of thing a 12 year old would like do you think ?

I think its lovely OP and also the double heart one linked by PP. DD will treasure it

Lovely though it is, it's transient. It will be well loved for a short time until the next fad.

badhappenings · 06/10/2023 20:21

It's gorgeous and very fitting.
But I would be very careful that she doesn't lose it.

Would she agree to keeping it in a safe place and not wear it until she is a lot older?

JANEY205 · 06/10/2023 20:26

what about something with both their birth stones on? Or a necklace with their photos inside? I lost my Tiffany necklace and so definitely keep it safe for her until she is older xx

I mean I would be over the moon/universe but we are all different..I think you'll be ok though. As long as your daughter isn't a massive tomboy.

It’s a lovely gift and even if she doesn’t wear it everyday I’m sure she’ll treasure it

This is a fad that has been going on for many years, why do you think it will become transient?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/10/2023 20:43

I’m so sorry your OH is ill. I think the Tiffany heart is perfect and I hope he’s around to see her wearing it for many years to come.

I've had mine (as have friends) for over 20 years.

I think the idea is lovely, but a silver necklace isn't necessarily something she will want to wear always especially as an adult, and as a child I don't think the Tiffany brand will mean anything so it might as well be something from one of the high street jewellers.
Why not get something made for her by a local jeweller or designer? For my child's 18th I got a ring made for her by a local jeweller. She chose the style and the stones she wanted. I didn't have a lot of money so it was only silver and semi-precious stones but it was no more expensive than something from a high street jeweller and completely unique. A ring would be difficult for a 12-year-old as it wouldn't fit them as an adult, but maybe a bracelet with some extra links to add as she grows?

Thanks to everyone for replying. Even those calling me out for being tacky! I appreciate everyone’s opinions and new ideas. My daughter doesn’t wear any jewellery at all at this stage. But jewellery was the most appropriate keepsake I could think of. And I was trying to find a quality piece that might capture the attention of a 12 year old but be classic enough to see her through to adulthood.

I agree it’s classic op. I saw my dd’s 15 yo friend earlier and noticed she was wearing a Tiffany necklace. The double one.
