Just that, really.

I went for a brunch with some Mums from my oldest's new class. I chose pancakes, a safe choice. Or so I thought.

They came with a cute little meringuy decoration on top. I started with that. I cut it in 2, put it my mouth and realised that it was butter. I looked up and made eye contact with one of the Mums. She looked slightly horrified. I had no choice but swallow.

I hesitated between eating the other half like a boss while maintaining eye contact and praying that things don't start to slide down or up before the end of th e brunch or using the butter as mother nature had intended. I chose the latter (and still prayed)

The Mums are nice enough but they don't look like they would mix butter with meringue. I don't get out often.

I have no choice do I? We need to pack up and start a new life elsewhere?

I once had a chunk of butter thinking it was a chunk of cheese.

What’s worse is I don’t eat butter/marg on anything unless it’s hot like a baked potato!

I was away skiing in Austria a number of years ago. Stopped for lunch on the mountain and ordered a plate of local salamis and dried meats which I tucked into.
There was a pile of sauerkraut in the middle which i grabbed some of, rolled into a piece of salami put into my mouth.
It wasn’t sauerkraut it was freshly grated horseradish.

Needless to say I had steam and tears coming out of my ears, eyes and nostrils. The locals we were sharing the table with were very gracious in suggesting ways to combat this - 🙄bless them.

Lunch with my ex boss . Sushi in the infancy of Sushi in the UK she wolfed a huge chunk of what was considered avocado but was by the looks of her watering eyes and face about explode Wasabi as others said she tried to style it out. I secretly felt it was just desserts xxx

If it's any consolation, I regularly swipe a slice of butter with no shame at home. Only salted butter, though. Unsalted butter has a grim, tasteless, sliminess to it that is unbearable and very disappointing.

I often eat slices of butter , too ! Kerygold butter is yum

Thanks for starting my day with a laugh! I raise a glass (after checking what’s in it) to all of you who styled it out. Commiserations to all who had to creep away and leave the country.😂

@DangerFrog he was certainly expecting it to be a soft cheese of that sort (and we are in Scotland) but he said no, it was actual butter. That said, it was well over 20 years ago so who can say for sure? I imagine he's forgotten all about it...

That does look tasty. Much nicer than my lunch I'm sure.

I was only 6 or 7 when I ate the little strawberry from the top of a fairy cake at a children’s party - it was plastic, but once I’d got it in my mouth I didn’t dare spit it out. It’s probably still attached to my stomach lining via its spiky little leaves.

60 years on DH and I each ordered the meal of the day plus another hefty main course from an Eastern European menu we couldn’t read. We didn’t like to own up and the staff watched with interest as we ploughed through (nearly) every last bit.

I am 100% certain that you have a better social life than TheBluntTruth given the effort they’re putting in to becoming a “personality” on mumsnet but just coming across as a twat.

I once got a lift from a colleague. On autopilot I gave him a kiss on the cheek when I got out of the car. I have never wanted so desperately for the ground to swallow me up!

You have no idea how much I needed this laugh today 🤣🤣

LT1982 · 10/10/2023 22:54

I bet no one noticed or will remember don't worry

The first time I got edamame beans in a restaurant I tried to eat the pod. After half a minute of chewing, I had to give up and split it out.

That made me feel better! Glad I am not the only one to mistake wasabi for guacamole 😆

I gather from a friend in Hong Kong that it isn’t necessarily meant to be tasty - the collagen is what people are after!
