just announced - he 'only' needs to put up 100km today and the rest incl interest in 10 days

Ugh. It's always about kicking it down the road for him, staying half a step ahead of consequences.

BTW, came across this today from November last year. I hadn't realised he's been actually bragging that he terminated Roe v Wade.

This isn't a one-off or a misspeak: it's a repeated part of his patter on his own greatness.Envy <-vomit

“Well I did something that nobody thought was possible. I got rid of Roe v. Wade"

“What I did, by killing Roe v. Wade, which everyone said was impossible…”

April 15th... 👀 is it actually going to happen this time?
Well, April 15th will certainly happen but will Don Porleone finally face a jury of peers for this particular crime?
Can you imagine turning up for jury service and getting Doofus? 😱

From Washington Post
NEW YORK — Donald Trump will begin his first criminal trial on April 15, a judge ruled Monday, at the end of a contentious hearing in which he repeatedly bludgeoned the former president’s legal team for claims of prosecutorial misconduct that the judge said were unfounded.

New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan rejected Trump’s assertion that the Manhattan district attorney’s office acted improperly with regard to newly available evidence. He also insisted the trial over reimbursement of an alleged hush money payment was back on track after a delay he imposed earlier this month.

^^
Yet even as the judge signaled there was no stopping the case from moving forward on the new schedule, Trump’s lawyers said they aimed to file at least one additional motion, this time over pretrial publicity, that they hoped might push the trial back. The judge sounded very skeptical of such a motion.

^^
The case had been set to go to trial in late March until defense lawyers said prosecutors had wrongfully withheld, until the final days of trial preparation, some 100,000 pages of potential evidence — records from a past federal investigation into Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer and fixer and a key prosecution witness.

DuncinToffee · 26/03/2024 21:30

A New York judge placed Donald Trump under a gag order ahead of his criminal hush money case that begins 15 April.

He is barred from making public statements about court staff, jurors, witnesses and lawyers in the district attorney's office - or their families.

The gag order does not apply to the district attorney.

I really, really don't understand why the rubes think that Trump is in any way at all Christian.

I really, really don't understand why the rubes think that Trump is in any way at all Christian.

Because they aren't.

There are hundreds of hours of YouTube videos of US Christian fundamentalists walking away when confronted with quotes form the bible (which for some reason they have never read) that contradict what they imagine Christianity is.

"I don't need to read no bible to know what it says" is their literal battle cry.

The God of the bible kills innocents, sanctions abortions and most certainly is not forgiving.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/03/2024 15:51

The God of one part of the bible approved of dashing out the brains of enemies' babies against rocks. (Psalm 137:8-9, "O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us. Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.") Not a terribly nice chap, on the whole. Not to mention encouraging bears to kill and eat children who had laughed at Elisha's bald head. (2 Kings 2:23-4, "And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.")

I think the fundamentalists of America are rather more Old Testament than they are Christian; they would find the Christ very uncomfortable to have around.

Maybe there's a wee bit of hope for November?

Trump gets gagged, McCarthy gets booted. What's next in Trumpworld?
SerendipityJane · 27/03/2024 15:56

When confronted with the Bible, some fundamentalists insist it's "fake news" - that's how far up their own arseholes they are.

There's a wonderful Stewart Lee routine that has the killer line: "Not the sort of jazz you like" that applies here.

"We're Christians and we follow the bible !"
<shown snippets which contradict what they thought the bible says>
"Not that bible !"

Maybe there's a wee bit of hope for November?

There is a school of thought which suggests that Alabama district would have benefited greatly from a new military installation there, but it was eventually sent to a different state because of the anti-LGBTQETC laws enacted by the GOP in Alabama, which meant that nobody trans or with a trans child would have wanted to be posted there. I have no idea whether there is any truth in that, but I throw it in for what it is worth. The GOP has got up a whole lot of noses recently, not just those of women. (It may be some sort of record to have contrived to be seen as the enemy by both sides of that particular dispute. Certainly takes dedication to be so widely unacceptable.)

Wait until he finds out Jesus was a refugee whose parents fled to Egypt because a tyrant threatened their lives.
Or the bit about a rich man finding it harder to get into heaven than a camel going through the eye of a needle.
Or the bit where the disciples sold all they had and gave the money to the poor.
Or the bit where Jesus overturned the tables in the temple because it was wrong to profit from selling religious items (in that case animals for sacrificial rites).

The God of the bible kills innocents, sanctions abortions and most certainly is not forgiving.

True, they seem to have read: "Talking snake, women are evil, smite, smite, smite! Jesus. Jesus loves you, but hates fags and Commies. The end, Hallelujah!"

AcrossthePond55 · 27/03/2024 20:35

I'm still only up to dipping my toe into the sewer pond that is Trump and his minions. But it does seem to me that a few wee worms are beginning to turn just a teeny bit. It's not enough for me to gloat and rub my hands gleefully, but it is enough to raise me from the Slough of Despair just a little bit. I still don't believe he'll see the inside of a prison cell, but do I love to see him squirming and gurning as he tries to deflect the issues around his net worth.

November 5 is still 7 months (and a few days) away. Nothing he's facing will disqualify him from being POTUS. Until we get past Election Day, I won't breathe easily no matter what happens in the courts.

Not related to this thread really but I am currently watching 'the Dropout', the story about Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos.

I wouldn't have been surprised if Trump had made an appearance.

Eyesopenwideawake · 01/04/2024 21:59

Seem Truth Social shares have tanked as the full details of their losses have been revealed.

*Truth Social, the former president’s breakaway rival to Twitter, continued to haemorrhage cash through 2023, generating just $4.1 million in revenue for the year, according to its latest results. All the company’s revenue came from advertising, which slipped to $751,000 in the final quarter of the year.

Trump holds a stake of around 60 per cent in the company, and yesterday’s selloff saw the value of the former president’s shares tumble by an estimated $2 billion.*

Oh dear, never mind.

DuncinToffee · 01/04/2024 22:33

I just watched John Oliver talking about his supporters buying shares. I didn't know TS was started by 2 failed candidates on his apprentice show.

It was astounding to me that Truth Social merger was supposed to make Trump rich... I thought everyone knew TS had low revenue.
