Yeah, there's plenty of other court stuff to keep him busy.

But this case is the one that's most clearly going against him.

BruceAndNosh · 02/11/2023 15:14

Don Jr must have "cleaned up his act" for a week or so before testifying , as he doesn't seem to be his usual red sweaty hyper self in court...

SequentialAnalyst · 02/11/2023 21:24

Does he mean Solomon?

Doubtless Trump would misunderstand the Judgement of Solomon, in which two women claimed a child was theirs. The king decreed the child should be cut in two. I bet Trump would think that was what Solomon actually meant to happen.

But Solomon was wise, and he knew when he gave his decision that this would provide the evidence he needed.

From Wikipedia:
Solomon ordered the baby be cut in half, with each woman to receive one half. The first woman accepted the compromise as fair, but the second begged Solomon to give the baby to her rival, preferring the baby to live, even without her.

For all the online discussion about Biden or Trump Sr's possible senility, I'm quite concerned that Eric Trump can't seem to "recall" very much about anything.
Plus his excuse that he was "only 26" in 2012 /2013 shows how bad he is at figures, since he was 28 or 29 then...

SequentialAnalyst · 03/11/2023 14:19

King David and Trump would have understood each other only too well. From the information we have on each of them, they had/have pretty much the same attitude to life. I suspect David was quite bright though, and he was very effective, whereas Trump, not so muchGrin

David was a shepherd boy and harpist, who shot to fame after he killed Goliath with a slingshot. He had a bromance with Jonathan, and wrote a sad poem about him after Jonathan was killed.

After killing Goliath, he becomes a favourite of Saul, the first king of Israel, but is forced to go into hiding when Saul suspects that David is trying to take his throne. After Saul and his son Jonathan are killed in battle, David is anointed king by the tribe of Judah and eventually all the tribes of Israel. He conquers Jerusalem, makes it the capital of a united Israel, and brings the Ark of the Covenant to the city.

He liked a bit of pussy - after he spots Bathsheba, a married neighbour, bathing, while he is up the palace roof, he summons her. He gets her pregnant, and tries to pin the pregnancy on her husband UriahHmm who is a soldier. When this doesn't work, he sends Uriah to the most dangerous place on the front line. He makes Uriah himself carry this message, which is tantamount to a death sentence. After Uriah is indeed killed in battle, David marries Bathsheba, but the child lives only a few days. Their second son is Solomon.

David's son Absalom later tries to overthrow him, but David returns to Jerusalem after Absalom's death to continue his reign. David desires to build a temple to Yahweh but is denied because of the bloodshed in his reign. He dies at age 70 and chooses Solomon, his son with Bathsheba, as his successor instead of his eldest son Adonijah. David is honored as an ideal king and the forefather of the future Hebrew Messiah in Jewish prophetic literature and many psalms are attributed to him.

I summarised from Wikipedia. My bolding. Sorry about the embedded links.

The judge overseeing Donald Trump’s civil fraud trial has expanded a gag order in the trial to extend to Trump’s attorneys after continued lengthy discussions about the judge’s communications with his law clerk during court this week.

One year out, Trump leads Biden.
The poll finds Biden is pretty badly damaged, but that there's still a path for Democrats to win.
Whether Biden can capitalize is the big question

Trump is on the stand. CNN has reporter in the courtroom and is doing a good continual update of the reporter's texts.

Trump acting true to form. Insulting the judge's integrity etc. Not answering the questions but going off on diatribes.

Live updates from CNN online

https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/trump-civil-fraud-trial-11-06-23/index.html

If you can watch live CNN TV, do.

Basically Trump being Trump. Rambling political speechifying, defiant responses, antagonizing the judge, portraying himself as a martyr. I can't figure if he's just an egotistical idiot or if it's a specific strategy to get the judge to do something 'appealable'. Currently the judge has threatened to dismiss Trump from the stand and 'make every negative inference from his testimony' in making his decision. Court currently in 15 min break.

The other 'strategy' is that apparently Trump will only be required to testify on this one day. Theory is that he's 'running down the clock' to avoid giving any 'real' answers.

I am following it via the Guardian live blog

Judge is close to booting Trump out

Lizzieregina · 06/11/2023 16:15

@AcrossthePond55 I think you give him too much credit to think he might actually have a “strategy” that he’s sticking to. I think he’s just an idiot rambling on talking shite!

I really really wish he’d just evaporate into the ether.

SequentialAnalyst · 06/11/2023 16:30

Trump is like a Bizzarro Buzz Light Year toy (not to be confused with Buzz Light Year The ToyWink)

Press a button, and a little pre-programmed utterance spills forth. "Who is he, I hardly knew him," "The election was rigged, I was robbed," etc. He just has a few more buttons and fewer brain cells than a BBLYt.

CNN on right now, and about to catch up with The Guardian live blog. Thanks!

AutumnCrow · 06/11/2023 16:34

This is from the Guardian live blog. Isn't this Trump basically admitting it? Grin

“The most valuable asset was the brand value,” he said. “If you look at the companies, the brand value is a very big part of the asset value of the company.”

“If I wanted to build up a statement,” Trump said, “I would have added brand value here ...

... and I would have increased it 10s of millions of dollars”

Yes mate, that's what's you did and what you're going down for! [my comment]

“It’s an asset,” he said of his brand. “Coca-Cola has it, and other big companies, public companies” have it.”

“I became president because of my brand,” Trump also said. “I sell books at levels that are incredible because of my brand.”

I wish he were just a rambling idiot. Unfortunately, he's actually a genius in certain respects when it comes to media manipulation and commanding attention. A literal idiot savaant.

Some pretty high-powered folk on CNN - it makes the BBC's efforts look woeful in comparison. The US produces some excellent well-educated people.

CNN on a break, there was a short piece about a test pilot who tests electric aeroplanes/airplanes. Smile

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2023 17:31

Counsel: did you prepare the 2021 financial statement
Trump: ‘I was so busy in the White House, focusing on Russia and China and keeping our country safe’
Counsel: you weren’t president then

SequentialAnalyst · 06/11/2023 17:58

He's clueless. (Surprise!)

Brand value is what we in England used to call Goodwill when selling a business as a going concern. It only comes into play if you sell, and the value is agreed between you and the buyer.

Golf courses with no houses on are not worth the same as golf courses with houses on them. (Trump claims they are!) This applies even if "I could build them if I wanted to, so there!"Grin Once the houses have actually been built, then you can do the valuation.

Time and again on Dragon's Den, we see hopeful business owners overvalue their business. They project huge growth, and try to value the business based on that. The Dragons do their best, but even they can't always get it through to the hopefuls that the value of a business is based on actual figures, past and present. Not the future, definitely not the future!

I can't quote them all, but there have been more than a few statements that could be interpreted as admitting he was aware of AND complicit in falsifying valuations and the actual sizes of properties in documents.

But the CNN legal analyst bring up that the judge has already found that he's committed fraud so it's like Trump is cutting off his own nose when it comes to the penalties. I just don't think he can help himself.

The banks are interested in the value of what they, the banks, could sell, if the borrower defaults on the loan, or if the bank decides to call the loan in.

Smoke blown from Trump's arse is worth nothing to a bank. No matter how much Trump thinks it should be worth, to the banks it's worth a big fat smelly zeroGrin

He said he hasn't built houses yet on Trump Aberdeen but he can do so whenever he wants.
Obviously not aware of Scottish planning permission requirements...

Doofus keeps whining that the statements DIDN'T overvalue his assets, in fact his assets were UNDERVALUED. Clearly he's missed whole point of a financial statement - it's meant to accurately reflect the true value, admitting his assets were undervalued is just as fraudulent as overvaluation.

Yes, that's under insurance, isn't it? So his assets would effectively be uninsured? Which would again be a fraud against investors relying on honest valuations.

"One year out, Trump leads Biden."

2011: "Harvard poll predicts Obama loss". By 11 percentage points, even.

Yes, the polls one year out mean rather less than nothing; they reflect the views of people who answer their phones to strangers, which is not a typical cohort of the population, and they've been pretty consistently irrelevant all this century.
