To wonder how Liz Truss has the audacity to push herself back into the spotlight again?

Just that, really. The woman must have the hide of a rhino. And/or be completely and utterly devoid of any self awareness.

I find it strangely fascinating!

I've always felt there was something very wrong with her. So robotic. Very narcissistic? The way she turned up at the King's coronation in a bright colour and grinning like a Cheshire cat seemed totally tone deaf. At least David Cameron has the decency to be somewhat low key. Did she think people had forgotten had happened under her watch? I also remember that leaked clip of her talking about British workers productivity levels - she sounded incredibly arrogant and pleased with her own opinion. If there was a vomit emoji I'd use it. She is a complete weirdo. Someone who fakes her way through life I suspect...but not someone anyone wants to sit next to at a dinner party.

Why are the press giving her columns and stuff? She's so discredited, I just don't get it.

BloodyHellKen · 02/10/2023 13:23

I agree OP. I heard her this morning wanging on about cutting taxes FFS. Fortunately, Jeremy Hunt isn't a raving lunatic like her and is having none of it 😂

Maybe, like me, they're strangely fascinated by the sheer audacity. It's like she doesn't have any normal human sense of shame or embarrassment at all despite having had to resign after a few disastrous weeks as PM because she was so bad.

I'm all in favour of people being resilient and bouncing back from setbacks etc, but surely there is a point at which you realise you just need to stop and do something else?

I bought and read her 4000 words in the Sunday Telegraph a while back in the hope that I could finally work out what on earth her grand plan is. It was just baffling nonsense - a word salad of self-serving tripe, devoid of any real content. The closest I can see it is that she considers herself some kind of ghost of Thatcher, but like an actual ghost she's a pale imitation (and I say that as someone who loathed Thatcher).

MrsLeonFarrell · 02/10/2023 14:36

I thought exactly the same. This morning when the BBC news channel decided to cover her speech live I switched off. She gets power from the coverage, and I don't understand why they cover someone who had such a catastrophic and brief time at the top.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 02/10/2023 19:08

Astounded. You astounding. She was plugging GB news too. Dreadful woman, who has cost us very dearly.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/10/2023 19:13

The woman has the self-awareness and integrity of a cockroach. Even bloody Johnson used to occasionally try to pretend and look as if he had reflected on things and was sorry; she doesn't even pretend to.

Exasperatednow · 02/10/2023 19:14

I agree no self awareness. Or empathy.

TheOutlaws · 02/10/2023 19:15

That woman cost me £300 per month in increased interest on my mortgage.

fearfuloffluff · 02/10/2023 19:18

The terrible thing is she'll also get pm allowance and be invited to state occasions like the cenotaph on 11 November, etc, alongside Alex 'boris' wankface johnson

Just sick.

MidnightOnceMore · 02/10/2023 19:19

I can't believe so many Tories are backing her!

SwedishEdith · 02/10/2023 19:19

I presume some right wing libertarian lobby is backing her. I think that's a consistent theme with her - she doesn't stand for anything. She's been latched onto to push American style libertarianism.

NoNoHellaNoNoHellaNoNo · 02/10/2023 19:21

I expect it’s the same delusional arrogance that made her Prime Minister in the first place.

If I had her record in office, I’d have probably died from embarrassment. If I managed to survive I’d probably spend the rest of my life in hiding, like Miss Havisham.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 02/10/2023 19:22

I'm assuming she's a stalking horse for Johnson's return.

GrammarTeacher · 02/10/2023 19:24

Apparently 60 Tory MPs support her.

Libertass · 02/10/2023 19:31

Politicians who seem to have no principles, who stand for nothing and who will apparently say anything to get elected get criticised. And rightly so, with Keir Starmer being a prime example.
Then along comes Truss who, whether you agree with her or not, is a genuine radical who actually wants to change the way the country is run and challenge the mainstream consensus. She doesn’t try to water down her views, is prepared to stand by what she believes in even if it costs her her job. And she still gets criticised for refusing to stop saying what she really thinks.

So what do we want from our politicians?

TheOutlaws · 02/10/2023 19:31

The Conservative Party is now an umbrella organisation for all kinds of cranks and criminals. There’s a Grand Canyon between some of the current swivel-eyed lunatics and the One Nation Tories. It’s why Labour and the Lib Dems desperately need to recognise that they’re currently splitting the centre-left and should come to an arrangement before we all get sucked down the plug hole.

Mischance · 02/10/2023 19:32

I'm surprised they let her in to the conference.

SerendipityJane · 02/10/2023 19:32

Here's a keepsake for when she's PM again.

To wonder how Liz Truss has the audacity to push herself back into the spotlight again?

Why not ?

Serious question.

I'm surprised it's so few. I suspect they are the tip of the iceberg.

Wherearemymarbles · 02/10/2023 19:33

Because she is a politician and they all think they are better than everyone else
she is particularly odious though and has the morals that would shame an alley cat

heldinadream · 02/10/2023 19:36

Mischance · 02/10/2023 19:32

They let FARAGE in too! He's not even a bloody paid-up Tory! The whole thing is insane.
Are they on glue?????

SilverGlitterBaubles · 02/10/2023 19:41

The fact that she keeps coming out with this nonsense is just astonishing. Her budget crashed the pound, the markets tumbled and the Bank of England had to step in to shore up pension funds at risk of collapse. That the Tory party think it is a good idea to have her around is just bonkers.

newnamethanks · 02/10/2023 19:42

The Right love her and will happily boot Rishi out- not really one of us, you know- and try to put her back in charge. There's a large, deluded, rump of Tories who'd have her back in a heartbeat. The witch ain't dead.
