He has no backbone, no coherent policies (u-turns a dozen times a day)and no understanding of ordinary people's lives. Plus he wears all his clothes a size too small, which really irritates me.

And yes, infant circumcision - why are we OK with that? (I'm not.) We can't have our cake and eat it.

Exactamundo !

However, there's money in them thar breasts, so logic and equity go out the window.

derxa · 04/10/2023 19:07

Why is cutting breasts off mutilation, but stuffing them full of silicone is fine? Why is fashioning a fake penis mutilation, but having a labiaplasty because your genitals aren't pretty enough is fine? All of these things are equally abhorrent and we don't deal with the drivers for them well enough. These are not equal at all. Getting breast enlargements and labiaplasties are usually decisions taken by women well into adulthood. You do realise that women who lose their breasts due to cancer often have breast implants.

But many women have breastfed implants in perfectly healthy breastfed because they don't feel they are good enough. Ditto buttock implants, botox injections, face-lifts, nose jobs and so on. There's a lot of money in cosmetic surgery to enhance appearance and I find it all disturbing.

derxa · 04/10/2023 19:29

pointythings · 04/10/2023 19:19

@derxa I didn't say they were equal, I said they were equally abhorrent. They all stem from a society that tells women that no matter what they are, they are not good enough. That underlying internalised and societal misogyny is what needs addressing.

And yes, infant circumcision - why are we OK with that? (I'm not.) We can't have our cake and eat it.

I'm not fine with it. Nor am I fine with FGM. What a strange argument.
Have you had a mastectomy? I have and it's horrible. But it was necessary to save my life.
If you have read the stories of detransitioning women and girls they're heartbreaking.

I vaguely remember DH telling me once that the waste from coal powered plants is just as radioactive as from nuclear plants. But I may have dreamt it. I'll ask him tomorrow and about oil and gas ones.

So I didn't dream it, but I did get it wrong. The waste from a coal fired plant is worse than that from a nuclear plant.

On what the minister was suggesting, total scientific nonsense. Oil/gas power stations produce next to no radioactivity. SMUs produce more than full sized nuclear power stations.

His does that help women and girls??

Well, having greener energy will mean that women and girls will have an actual planet to live on, with energy, air to breathe and clean water. Of course that is far, far less important than the trans issue. 🙄

There won’t be much saving anyone if we don’t get serious about climate change.

Of course because the earth hasn’t moved in cycles for the last 4.5 billion years 🙄🙄

pointythings · 04/10/2023 20:36

We have an actual genuine climate change denier! Roll up, roll up, and remember what we're dealing with here! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Jellykat · 04/10/2023 20:36

Lastchancechica, you're discussing one issue.. ONE.. how does the decimation of the NHS including mental health services, child poverty, increase in knife crimes, lack of securing convictions for rapists etc etc, help women and girls??

Theres a hell of a lot of shit the Torys have created, destroying peoples lives (including women and girls).. but you just keep on banging on about the Trans issue.. get some bloody perspective!

And the biggest joke of all is the fact you seem to believe Labour are going to change this? When they have already confirmed they won’t be putting any extra funds into services, and run the country into even more debt. So whilst it’s lovely you think a magic tree is winging its way with Raynor I rather beg to differ.

We don’t think that. We think the same amount of money will be spent more sensibly - and not diverted into Tory supporters’ pockets.

Exactly this. And it's a joke accusing Labour of magic money trees when the Tories have just pulled yet another one out to fund their reform of A levels and T levels (though £600 million won't begin to make a difference, and it's completely unnecessary).

Lastchancechica · 04/10/2023 20:54

How can women be represented and protected by law if we are not even recognised?

Lastchancechica · 04/10/2023 20:54

Bullshit aside. This is a major Labour failing that isn’t going away.

How’s that going to happen if the human race is extinct?

Jellykat · 04/10/2023 21:02

'Magic money trees' Lastchancechica? and yet today Sunak has announced he's going to invest 36 billion in filling potholes.. how much has he already spent on the scrapped train track? dont make me laugh..

You still haven't given evidence of Labour saying any of this

BIossomtoes · 04/10/2023 21:04

The Tories haven’t got a magic money tree - they’ve got an entire forest when it suits them.
