DS (4) was fine all day yesterday. We went out for dinner last night and he ate all of his (including beans which may be relevant). We then had our weekly family movie night, DS had some squash and a tiny bit of chocolate whilst watching the movie. Normally on movie night we let the DC stay up later than normal so they usually sleep in aswell.

He's now woken up at 4 this morning crying saying his stomach hurts. I instantly thought its because he ate so much last night so encouraged him to go to the toilet which he did. He did a poop but said his stomach was still hurting.

He's now white as a ghost, feels really cold and clammy to the touch and is saying his tummy hurts so much he can't stand up. I've got him to walk a little bit which he has but he's bent over whilst doing it bless him.

I don't want to take him anywhere yet incase it is just wind from the beans Blush but I would have thought going to the toilet would have helped ease that a bit which it hasn't. Anyone had this with their little ones?

Hope he’s feeling better soon.

smartiesneberhadtheanswer · 23/09/2023 16:01

I'm glad he's getting all the tests, the NHS are brilliant with kids and will get to the bottom of it

Didicat · 23/09/2023 16:01

Hope the doctors get you an answer soon, and until then they get his pain under control. Sending you gentle hugs

GoodOnPaper · 23/09/2023 16:02

Hope he’s doing ok and they have worked out what is going on.

My son had appendicitis at 5, unusual but not impossible to have it so young.

But hope the docs have worked our what’s going on for your son now. It is so difficult. But he is in the right place with so many medics around.

CUDet · 23/09/2023 16:03

Hope he feels better soon.

Mamai90 · 23/09/2023 16:04

Sending love OP and sorry you've had some dickish responses.

clopper · 23/09/2023 16:08

Hope he’s ok and you get to the bottom of it quickly.

unwashedanddazed · 23/09/2023 16:09

My DS had his appendix out aged five. This sounds just like he was, pain not in the obvious appendix place, curled up against the pain, had to be carried everywhere. It took two surgeons arguing for a couple of hours before they decided he was in enough pain to warrant surgery even though they weren't 100% convinced it was appendicitis. Turns out it was.

He's a mid-thirties dad himself now.

Hope everything is resolved very soon and your boy is back to full health swiftly.

spuddel · 23/09/2023 16:09

Dr has just seen him, he is concerned but doesn't think appendix as actually when he pressed his stomach he screamed when he pressed the left rather than the right. The dr has just gone to speak to his boss now he said to see what the next step will be @daydreaming3 my gp said told me apendicitis can present as left side pain on palpating. Think a CT scan would help rule it out. Rooting for your little boy, very stressful for you.

Paintingonthewall12 · 23/09/2023 16:09

Fingers crossed they work it out soon, sounds awful and scary! Massive hug OP

SirVixofVixHall · 23/09/2023 16:09

Your poor little boy, I hope they swiftly work out what is going on . It sounds as though you are in good hands.

Forceasmileandbehappy · 23/09/2023 16:09

It could also be a hernia. Don’t ever think seeing a doctor will be a waste their time! Especially when it comes to the healthy of your child.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 23/09/2023 16:14

Sending love OP. I’ve been there with DS. After X-ray, bloods, an emergency transfer to another hospital and two ultrasounds they decided it wasn’t a surgical cause. He had iv antibiotics for 5 days and made a full recovery. They suspected an abdominal abscess but never got to the bottom of it.
You’re doing absolutely amazingly- I know how traumatic it all is.

Doggymummar · 23/09/2023 16:14

Gosh what a worry

MadeForThis · 23/09/2023 16:15

Hope they give you an answer soon x

Ringletsx · 23/09/2023 16:20

The symptoms sound similar to an intestinal blockage which can sometimes not show up on a X Ray. Glad they are doing all the checks. I really hope he is feeling much better soon x

JANEY205 · 23/09/2023 15:08

Ignore me OP! So glad they are doing an U/S and ct next!! I was going to suggest you fight tooth and nail for one.

There's such poor faith in doctors on Mumsnet it's shocking. I mean it's literally our job to spend every working minute and ounce of energy working out what the patients problem is with examination and tests and then treating it.
The CT should give answers OP take care xx

TrickyD · 23/09/2023 16:22

I had appendicitis in 1959 and still have a vivid memory of the pain being bearable when the DR pressed my right side, then he pressed the left and quickly withdrew his hand - agony! A couple of posters have said something similar.

Husband had his appendix out when he was 2. Appendicitis can happen even to very young children.

LesLavandes · 23/09/2023 16:25

Your poor little boy. I hope you get some answers soon

Mammajay · 23/09/2023 16:25

I hope he is ok. Please keep us up to date when you have time. Poor little boy and poor you.

Cowlover89 · 23/09/2023 16:26

I hope he gets better soon. X

Reetnice · 23/09/2023 16:26

Stop being such a dick @Fallingthroughclouds

LuluBlakey1 · 23/09/2023 16:29

I'm not a Dr but when DH had appendicitis the pain was to the left of his belly button.

RedTedBoom · 23/09/2023 16:31

These symptoms (pain vomiting etc.) sound very similar to when my daughter 's appendix burst with no warning/rumbling etc.
She was only 4 also, so whilst rare it does happen (I was told normally 7 plus)
They said the scan would be conclusive if it wasn't the appendix but the scan might not be definitive if it was - as the appendix had burst there was nothing visible on the scan.
I hope you get some answers soon

whitebreadjamsandwich · 23/09/2023 16:34

Biggest of hugs to you mum - poor wee tooter
