Anyone up who knows what this could be? DS in pain.

DS (4) was fine all day yesterday. We went out for dinner last night and he ate all of his (including beans which may be relevant). We then had our weekly family movie night, DS had some squash and a tiny bit of chocolate whilst watching the movie. Normally on movie night we let the DC stay up later than normal so they usually sleep in aswell.

He's now woken up at 4 this morning crying saying his stomach hurts. I instantly thought its because he ate so much last night so encouraged him to go to the toilet which he did. He did a poop but said his stomach was still hurting.

He's now white as a ghost, feels really cold and clammy to the touch and is saying his tummy hurts so much he can't stand up. I've got him to walk a little bit which he has but he's bent over whilst doing it bless him.

I don't want to take him anywhere yet incase it is just wind from the beans Blush but I would have thought going to the toilet would have helped ease that a bit which it hasn't. Anyone had this with their little ones?

Just seen the dr, X-ray and bloods have come back ok. They want to do a few more blood tests, an ultrasound and then a Ct scan. They are concerned about the fact he can't stay awake and that the pain is so severe. He's nil by mouth now incase of surgery. There's also talk of him being transferred to the nearest big children's hospital if he needs surgery. It's all just so worrying!

Could it be a twisted bowel/intestinal blockage? My friend’s little girl had this years ago and it sounds similar.

daydreaming3 · 23/09/2023 15:07

Oh just to answer a few of the questions the dr checked his testicles and they were fine and a UTI has also been ruled out. The dr mentioned they are now looking at the pancreas, spleen and small bowel. So that's what the next test and scans are looking at

I'm amazed your first thought was to ask strangers on mumsnet with no medical training. If anything else happens I'd suggest you seek help from professionals rather than waste time. Hope he recovers quickly.

There are a number of reasons people seek medical advice on Mumsnet. It is full of people who may have experienced something similar, you get a quicker response than calling your GP, 111, or 999 and can get a ‘feel’ for whether you should wait for a fart or get your kid to A&E asap, and importantly, Mumsnet is jam packed full of nurses, doctors, and a whole host of medical professionals who can give you a quick idea of next steps. Of course you’re going to get the crackpots who will advocate burning bay leaves, naked, during a full moon but most of the advice and suggestions have been sensible and supportive.

Good luck, OP. Hope your little one is back on his feet and running around soon.

This sounds like when I had a gallbladder issue, but could also be kidney issues/pancreas/appendicitis. I was told appendicitis starts in the centre and then moves to the right! I’m shocked they aren’t doing an u/s as that would show so much more than an X-ray which won’t show much if it’s soft tissue which wounds like it is!

stayclosetoyourself · 23/09/2023 15:08

Sounds a good idea for the surgical team to rv. Bilious vomiting is worrying as well as the pain.

JANEY205 · 23/09/2023 15:08

Ignore me OP! So glad they are doing an U/S and ct next!! I was going to suggest you fight tooth and nail for one.

ItWillBeDone · 23/09/2023 15:09

Good luck op, hope they soon work out what is going on and he recovers quickly.

But still even if every answer is from a Dr they can't diagnose or prescribe, and how many responses did she actually get from medics. I saw one.....and they advised a&e.

I think if you child I'd cold & clammy and complaining of intense pain, your initial thought probably shouldn't be I'll jump on a chat room at 6am. Maybe look for MN reassurance once recieving medical treatment. Hopefully he's OK.

Beautifulsunflowers · 23/09/2023 15:21

I keep checking in on this thread just to see how your little man is doing.
hope you’re ok too op.
Sending un-mumsnetty hugs to you both.

PixiesAndUnicorns · 23/09/2023 15:23

@daydreaming3 sending positive thoughts your way, I too would have hoped it was just the beans. I’m so sorry to hear you’re still waiting for answers and hope you hear something more constructive very soon x

Good to hear they have admitted and are running more tests.

It's very frightening, I know.

Mumsnet is an amazing group of women, who have lived through similar experiences, caring for children, and that combined life experience is wide, varied, reassuring, helpful and instant.

Absolutely.

And now the OP has people knowing what she's going through who can vertically hold her hand whilst she is alone supporting her ds who is very unwell.

I think we've all had those "is it as bad as it seems?" Moments. Especially when we are being conditioned to only attend a and e if dead if you read some threads here!

Bunnycat101 · 23/09/2023 15:27

I really hope you get some reassurance soon. You’re in the right place and good that they are taking you seriously. It is always horrid when children are so poorly.

Mummysgonetobed · 23/09/2023 15:30

I hope you get some answers soon OP. My then 5 year old presented similarly and it was found to be testicular torsion and he had surgery within a couple of hours, but I see you’ve already had that ruled out.
thinking of you, it’s awful having a child in hospital.

Snowpatrolling · 23/09/2023 15:32

Norovirus and sickness bugs are doing the rounds, I know a lot of people who have had something over the past couple of weeks.

Chasingup · 23/09/2023 15:38

I hope he gets better soon poor thing☹️

Itsallsostressful · 23/09/2023 15:45

Been checking thread to see how your wee guy is. Big hugs and hope he is sorted quickly OP Flowers

Natsku · 23/09/2023 15:48

Hope the ultrasound or CT scan reveal more. X-ray should have at least ruled out button battery or magnet I guess, so that's a relief.

NortieTortie · 23/09/2023 15:49

Bless him. hope he's feeling better soon, poor baby. And poor mom!

Hellocatshome · 23/09/2023 15:52

Hope you get some answers soon OP .

NewBrightonEel · 23/09/2023 15:56
