Anyone up who knows what this could be? DS in pain.

DS (4) was fine all day yesterday. We went out for dinner last night and he ate all of his (including beans which may be relevant). We then had our weekly family movie night, DS had some squash and a tiny bit of chocolate whilst watching the movie. Normally on movie night we let the DC stay up later than normal so they usually sleep in aswell.

He's now woken up at 4 this morning crying saying his stomach hurts. I instantly thought its because he ate so much last night so encouraged him to go to the toilet which he did. He did a poop but said his stomach was still hurting.

He's now white as a ghost, feels really cold and clammy to the touch and is saying his tummy hurts so much he can't stand up. I've got him to walk a little bit which he has but he's bent over whilst doing it bless him.

I don't want to take him anywhere yet incase it is just wind from the beans Blush but I would have thought going to the toilet would have helped ease that a bit which it hasn't. Anyone had this with their little ones?

We're on the paeds ward now. They want the drs and the surgical team to come and take a look at him. He perked up for a little bit on calpol and was able to sit up but is now back to being asleep. He needed a wee so I took him to the toilet but he absolutely screamed and couldn't stand up straight and was then sick a few mins later

Oh gosh Ilsounds scary I hope they can find out soon what is wrong xx

Maray1967 · 23/09/2023 14:18

I hope he is properly seen soon. I had appendicitis at 7 and this sounds like everything I had, particularly in pain when walking and curling up in the foetal position.

Moonwatcher1234 · 23/09/2023 14:23

Oh no, poor little boy. Wishing him a quick recovery and strength and love to you.

Inyournewdress · 23/09/2023 14:24

Sending you a massive handhold OP, this is so hard for you both. Really thinking of you and hoping you’ll soon be through the worst and homeward bound xx

Shouldbedoing · 23/09/2023 14:24

Have they ruled out testicular torsion?

Perfectlystill · 23/09/2023 14:25

I really hope they sort him out fast OP x

Ivyiris · 23/09/2023 14:25

Hope he's on the mend soon op

Bagpuss2022 · 23/09/2023 14:30

Hope he’s on the mend soon and you’re in the right place. My DS2 had burst appendix at the age of 3 so they can and do get it that young not worrying you but don’t let them rule anything out before running all the tests

Whenisitwineoclocktime · 23/09/2023 14:32

I hope he feels better soon x

Purplepeoniesdroppingpetals · 23/09/2023 14:32

Poor kid and poor you - really hope that it eases soon and it’s not too serious.

curtaintwitcher78 · 23/09/2023 14:34

Did they take X-rays? Could he have swallowed little magnets?

I'm amazed your first thought was to ask strangers on mumsnet with no medical training.
Mumsnet is an amazing group of women, who have lived through similar experiences, caring for children, and that combined life experience is wide, varied, reassuring, helpful and instant.

I really don't like the speed of progression. If the bloods don't look like appendicitis, it might be worth asking the team if they think it could be any other form of acute surgical abdomen. They're much rarer than appendicitis, but there are things like intussusception, internal hernia, and volvulus that can be just as needing of surgical input but don't show up as well as appendicitis on bloods. But there can be a raised lactate, which is at least tested a lot more often than it used to be.

I was thinking the same. Far to quick for appendicitis.

Toseland · 23/09/2023 14:39

Forgot to say good luck OP, hope he is feeling better soon x Flowers

BananaHammock23 · 23/09/2023 14:45

Really hope he feels better soon OP, what a worry for all of you Flowers

Banana34 · 23/09/2023 14:47

Have they tested him for a uti?

Wallywobbles · 23/09/2023 14:48

DD was a slim sporty 12 yo with her appendicitis. At no point was the pain where it should be due to her build. They also couldn't find her appendix on the scan. It was behind everything. We got sent home the first night without even a blood test. GP did those and we went back the second night. She ended up with a ruptured appendix.

Jak803 · 23/09/2023 14:50

Hope the poor guy feels better soon. He’s in the best possible place, sounds like the medical team are being really thorough. I used to get severe, excruciating constipation as a little kid where I would scream and writhe in pain, then it would just pass on its own. This sounds like it’s been going on a while though. Sending you all good wishes.

FeliciteFaff · 23/09/2023 14:51

Ah mum I’m sorry he is still unwell. Will be following along. Hope you get some good news soon 💖

Amazing or not, been through similiar or not, non of them are able to diagnose whether this a serious condition though, one that may need prompt medical intervention. Get some reassurance whilst you are in A&E. Hopefully they get to the bottom of it quickly and the little chap begins to feel better soon.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 23/09/2023 14:55

Poor little guy. It's terrible when you just want to do something to help him
It's come on very suddenly and whilst it's in the right area for appendicitis it could also be a kink in his bowl. I hope he gets a quick diagnosis and treatment and is feeling better very soon

NoMoreUsernamesAnymore · 23/09/2023 14:56

Having just recently had appendicitis which i ignored and ended up with a burst appendix and peritonitis, please take him to A&E or call 111. It may be a bug. It might be something else. Get it checked. Edit. Glad to see you took him to hospital. I hope the little love feels better soon

MartyFunkhouser · 23/09/2023 15:00

Poor you, OP.

I hope they get this sorted asap.

SummerHouse · 23/09/2023 15:00

This sounds horrible op. You are in the right place and you are doing all you can. I am hoping this will all be over as quickly as it started and you get some answers soon.
