Do you clean up after yourself in fast food restaurants?

I know it's MacDonalds so I'm a terrible mother, but at least I'm a terrible mother who can put her own rubbish in a bin!!

Went to Maccies alone today and was shocked to see a family (Mom, Dad, two kids maybe 6 and 4) leave this mess. But it isn't just them. There's always a table like this where people have just made an absolute mess then got up and walked away.

I normally chuck a first load away whilst the kids are eating and then a second load before we leave. Is wipe up a ketchup or drink spill. I'd pick up loose fries.

Surely that's just normal? Aibu to think I'm not the weird one?

Absolutely always tidy up after myself.

CobraChicken · 22/09/2023 16:57

Always. Fucking lazy slobs...

HappyCamperTent · 22/09/2023 16:58

You are not the weird one.

It’s rude and disrespectful, plus they’re teaching their kids nothing at all.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 22/09/2023 16:58

Yes, because I’m not a dickhead

Allofthisisasimulation · 22/09/2023 16:59

Of course, only entitled/lazy people would leave this sort of mess behind.

TakeMe2Insanity · 22/09/2023 16:59

Yes always and involve dc in clearing up after ourselves too.

FionnulaTheCooler · 22/09/2023 16:59

I always put my rubbish in the bin and judge people who don't. It's probably the same people who throw their bag of rubbish out of the car window when they've been to the drive thru.

MrsJellybee · 22/09/2023 17:00

Yep. Clear my table in fast food places. And try to make my table in a restaurant as waiter/ waitress friendly as possible. People are just dicks.

BogRollBOGOF · 22/09/2023 17:02

We always clean up. With a dyspraxic child, there can be a limit to what we can achieve with serviettes, but we always do what is reasonably possible to help staff just give it a quick wipe over once we've done.

The staff tend to be pretty lovely, and because we do make the effort, if there is an incident like swimming in hot chocolate they're normally very helpful about it.

DarkDarkNight · 22/09/2023 17:04

Absolutely always. I would be mortified to leave my rubbish for staff to deal with.

LovingMyLiver · 22/09/2023 17:05

Fucking tramps

BlowDryRat · 22/09/2023 17:06

Yes, and I judge people who don't. Like they think they're too good to put their own rubbish in the bin Confused Same with the cinema, theatre and sporting events.

Sirzy · 22/09/2023 17:07

Always, if I am somewhere with table service I will leave the area tidy. If I am somewhere like McDonald’s I will clear the table.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/09/2023 17:07

Leaving a mess like that is baffling and inexcusable, likewise the people who throw their rubbish from cars, although I'm sure the 'whatabouts' will be along in a moment to tell us why those people in the OP couldn't possibly have put their rubbish in a bin.

Youspoilus · 22/09/2023 17:08

had I seen you take a photograph… I would have totally thought… there’s a mumsnetter about to start a thread!

Lulaloo · 22/09/2023 17:08

Many years ago, DH and I took members of a youth group to a McDonald’s on the way back from an activity. They got up to leave and left all their rubbish behind. They were disgruntled and said that the staff should clear away their mess.😱
We made it clear we were not leaving until they had!

Kissmas · 22/09/2023 17:09

"Yes, and I judge people who don't. Like they think they're too good to put their own rubbish in the bin Same with the cinema, theatre and sporting events."

Our cinema asks you to leave all rubbish at your seat. So you can leave your judgy pants at home for that one. In McDonald's or similar I would always clear up though.

PostItInABook · 22/09/2023 17:09

These are the same kind of lazy, selfish, entitled people who leave their basket at the self checkout in the shop or their trolley in the middle of the car park. 🙄

CyberCritical · 22/09/2023 17:09

Yes, always and have taught DD to as well.

Went to a hotel a few months ago and had the buffet breakfast. There was a family with a set of infant twins and a toddler so all in high chairs. They'd loaded up the trays on the high chairs so the kids could feed themselves. Kids had thrown 95% of the food on the floor. When they finished they just picked up the kids and walked off leaving food absolutely everywhere. Scrambled egg, bacon, chunks of sausage, shredded up toast, beans.... just scattered all around the floor and high chairs.

I feel so sorry for the poor staff member who had to clean it all up.

Henryhover · 22/09/2023 17:11

Always clean up after myself, even at a normal restaurant.. I'd scrap the plates onto one and stack them to make it easier for the staff, I know how rushed off their feet they can be

NewName122 · 22/09/2023 17:13

I always do but it is one of the tasks given to staff so its not the end of the world if people don't OP 🤣

PumpkinPie2016 · 22/09/2023 17:15

I always clean up after us.

I absolutely judge those who don't!

It's really not difficult to clear up your rubbish/mess.

I once saw two women with 4 small children leave an absolute state 😳 rubbish left on table, loads of fries all over the floor, drink spillages.

I couldn't leave a mess, I'd be mortified.

GodspeedJune · 22/09/2023 17:15

Yes always bin our own rubbish, although I’m
one of these weirdos who would rather eat in the car. I don’t like the way the tables hardly seem to get wiped down sometimes. Maybe leaving the rubbish neatly on the tray would signal to staff which tables need cleaning for the next customer.

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/09/2023 17:20

Yep seen it.

Saw a couple of women with kids in a maccies when we were on hols and they left a massive mess behind. One of the kids went to clear up and one of the women said "Dont bother, it keeps the thickos in a job"

My sister, being rather more gobby than me, shouted "I can see a couple of thickos walking out of the door right now!"

Oblomov23 · 22/09/2023 17:22

Always. Disgusting those that don't.
