Russell Brand - everyone knew

1000 replies

Mooshamoo · 18/09/2023 17:06

I was watching the comedian Katherine Ryan say to Louis theroux that a British comedian is a sexual perpetrator. It is now believed that she was talking about Russell brand. She said on the video "when it eventually comes out about these type of people, Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, this unmentionable British personality, it turns out that everyone knew. Everyone knew. ".

I was wondering did anyone on here on mumsnet know anything about Russell brand? A lot of us lived in London when her was living there. And many women on here would have been a similar age to Russell brand . I lived in London for a year and I saw Russell brand out on a night out once. That was the extent of it. I was wondering did anyone on here have any experience with him, or know about a friend/acquaintance that had any experiences with him.

This is the thing isn't it. Was he using women and probably a bit of a prick? Or was he a rapist? Because the former doesn't necessarily mean the latter is true.

It doesn’t but some men straddle that line very carefully, pushing boundaries in a way that would make it difficult to evidence lack of consent but where consent isn’t clear or isn’t given. A hand around the throat, pushing too far with oral sex, joking about their sexual preferences so when a woman says “I didn’t agree to that” they can argue she knew the nature of the man and went so far with him anyway. These men know exactly what they’re doing.

Brand has stated that in his experience 80% of women are 'up for a threesome'.

I think this provides a really good insight into how his mind works.

Does anyone genuinely believe that 80% of women are bisexual and would also be sexually attracted to any women that Brand presents as a threesome partner?

Or is it more likely that he doesn't care at all about what the women want? Is it more likely that he doesn't think about women as humans, with our own sexuality and a right to enjoy sex?

Not to mention the fact that many of the threesome 'partners' he sprung on his girlfriends were prostitutes. Unlike Brand many women would have ethical objections to sleeping with a prostitute because so many female sex workers have been trafficked, groomed or otherwise coerced.

It's almost like the coercing was the bit he enjoyed.

Threesome, does not have to have any form of gay element to the act, it can be three people taking part in a consensual sexual act.

heathspeedwell · 19/09/2023 13:12

I think there's definitely a bisexual element to two women getting naked and having sex with the same man.

Did he sexually assault the other 20% who said no, and then apologise to them after the fact??

This makes absolutely no sense in the context of the post quoted.

If someone is happy to use women and be a "bit of a prick", what's to stop them being a rapist?
Rapists feel entitled to sex and enjoy power and control, won't take no for an answer. Users also fall into this category.

I really don't understand why people think there is a solid line between a promiscuous, lying, user "player" type person and a rapist. Seems to me like there's probably a huge overlap.

Logic all over the place

Of course there’s an extremely clear distinction between being a) a rapist and b) not being a rapist but being promiscuous and a knob

That’s not to say being promiscuous and being a rapist are mutually exclusive.

But conflating the two as one and the same is wrong – in several senses.

That is an opinion, but if either party of the same sex do not have sex, kiss, or touch in a sexual manner, does that make them bi-sexual? What about group sex, are they all bi-sexual by taking part, yet having sex with the opposite sex?

People keep saying this is a police matter. Yes it absolutely should be a police matter. But do these people criticising trial by media realise what these women were up against? Not only a powerful man with a bottomless pit of money that made him capable of throwing legal threats their way, using the threat of litigation to anyone who dare expose him. But also institutions that were willing do anything to have him as he bought in the money and increased viewing figures ( why people actually wanted to ever watch or listen to him baffles me!) these women would not have stood a chance going to the police with rape allegations. To top that off such a tiny amount of rape allegations even make it to court and then those that do such a pathetic amount are actually convicted.

The misogynistic state of our society that has given RB this platform unfortunately necessitates the media to expose these things. We should be grateful that we have a powerful media that is not silenced.

Wholeheartedly agree with everything you say. Concentrating on the possible criminal aspects of his behaviour is to miss the point entirely

I felt his video 'statement' was very telling and probably reviewed and edited by his legal team. Note he says all of his 'relationships' were consensual. He never says all of the sexual acts within those relationships were consensual. Verbal gymnastics. Women may consensually enter into a 'relationship' with him but this is very different to all of the sexual acts that occur in that relationship being consensual.

I thought the father's statement very telling indeed. The apple clearly doesn't fall far from the tree.

Where was his mother, could she not of protected and shielded him from his father?

bombastix · 19/09/2023 13:36

No agree that Brand's father seems to be unpleasant. His son's behaviour seems narcissistic and a lot of narcissistic men have very nasty fathers. It is the only sympathy I have for Russell Brand at all,

This extract from the recent Sunday Times article might give an insight into what happened to women who told Brand they didn't want a threesome:

"Nadia says Brand took her to a wall and kissed her and made a comment, something along the lines of: “I’ll keep you safe.” He then told her that “a friend” was already in the bedroom and that he wanted her to join them, according to Nadia.
“I’m like, no, that’s not happening, I don’t care, that’s not happening, we’re not doing that,” she says. “I tried to get away from him and I slipped away from the wall. And then I went to another wall that had a painting on it. A huge painting. And my bag got actually stuck underneath that, and it’s still on my arm. And at this point he’s grabbing at my underwear, pulling it to the side.”
Nadia alleges that she told Brand to get off her and that she wanted to leave, but he carried on. “I’m stuck underneath the painting and he’s pushing up against me,” she says. “He’s a lot taller than me. And he has that glazed look in his eye again. And I can’t move. And I told him, ‘Get off, get off.’” Nadia claims that Brand pushed her up against the wall and raped her, without a condom."
