This shouldn't be allowed surely? Who comes up with this shit?
I'm not called Karen but I know Karen's that hate their name now because of the way it's used.

So I should what just agree with the majority because that is their experience

but we know racism is too often diminished on MN

I don’t go on Reddit the one time I have I was appalled it was sometime after a mass shooting in the US what was allowed to stand was horrific

wayyour · 27/08/2023 00:19

My % are from the current vote tally.

I'm currently using the app.

So your 17% support is referring to the poll about the OP? I don't think you can be serious. Though it wouldn't be a funny topic to take the piss about so I hope not.

Walkingtheplank · 27/08/2023 00:23

Gosh summertime is a bore on Mumsnet.

Always far more people with nothing better to do than derail threads, especially those about how women as a class are treated.

So many of the summer visitors assume they know so much more than existing posters about all sorts of subjects.

So many of them seem to think their derailing perspective is unique.

Roll on Autumn.

It’s from 765 votes, where 17% say the advert should be allowed and is a useful data point.

OnTheWayThere · 27/08/2023 00:27

How can you tell who's a "summer visitor" and who's a long-time poster? Or are you one of the"existing posters" who never seem to realize that there's a name change feature on Mumsnet?

What a juvenile post anyway. I can almost hear the sing-sing tone.

Walkingtheplank · 27/08/2023 00:28

In other news, I made a lovely puppet out of a sock today.

Also, I think using 'Karen' as shorthand for racist white woman does an enormous disservice to the specific forms of racism white women wield against Black women. 'Karen' makes these incidents seem trivial or inconsequential when they are incredibly damaging, as is the knowledge that to all intents and purposes the white women will still be painted as the victim or given the benefit of the doubt regardless. A few tears later and you'll soon need to explain and apologise to said ww for making her feel 'terrible'. It's such a damaging experience particularly in the workplace (Remote-first policy is so amazingly phenomenal I don't know what to compare it to so amazing it is). But anyway, I much prefer when people say today X/ a white woman said/did XYZ.

Edited

I don't name search people. I've been too busy arts and crafting to do that. But I do recognise (no 'z') a summer visitor.

As for the sing-sing tone, I'm told I do have a lovely voice - unless you mean Sing Sing prison; I'm pretty sure I haven't got the voice for that!

DreamTheMoors · 27/08/2023 00:46

@ArabeIIaScott

Thank you.
You would’ve loved Karen. Everybody did.

OnTheWayThere · 27/08/2023 00:48

'Sing-sing' was an obvious typo which was supposed to be 'sing-song' but as I said earlier, juvenile. Proven at least 3 times now, I've realized (with a z).🙄

Unless you're part of mnhq team who can tell who's new and who isn't, congrats on your psychic ability. Wish I had it too.

So you're taking the 17% of people who think the misogynistic advert (it's not about racism)
should be allowed as support, even though you think that's misappropriation of the term?

Ok..................

That's not funny, really. Hmm

I'd have thought the thread would have been thoroughly searched for socks after the weirdness earlier. Who knows though!

I've always thought the "Karen-type" was started by the character called Karen in Will and Grace (love the character btw 😅). Is that not the case?

I don't know if you're right, but I sent a quick message to Mumsnet earlier asking if they could take a look.

There was a post talking about someone, I shan't mention, trolling, but it was deleted sharpish.

I'm not being vague. I'm just impressed by how textbook your response was. You claim my "hate" for white women is "shocking" and there's a name for that, in other words, hating someone because of their race is racism. That would be my cue to exalte that I of course don't hate white women and apologise for my post/s; and follow up with exasperated attempts to state my anti-racist credentials, perhaps mentioning a white best friend or relative etc etc.
My response was not vague, it was just acknowledgement at just how textbook perfect your response was as it encapsulates everything so neatly in one small sentence. Truly remarkable.

Even down to this part:

I'm amazed nobody has pointed out its obvious that two posters are the same. The original derailer and then the later other aggressive one.

Could not have anticipated a more textbook perfect reasoning.

Grin Yes, I'm the 'bigot' and the 'aggressive one'. I said before on a thread in FWR, this is just a forum where we can all choose to disengage whenever we want but these are the same women we work alongside, call our neighbours, our colleagues, healthcare providers and so on. But alas, I'm the bigot. Ok. The machinations of this cohort will not ever fail to astonish me even though it follows the same pattern and rhetoric each and every time without fail.
