DP refusing to be seen with me if I'm wearing gold trainers (light hearted)

AIBU?

A few years ago I told my DP that if I ever bought gold shoes he was to take me out and shoot me.

I've now changed my mind and bought myself some gold trainers. I love them and they're really comfy.

But DP doesn't like them and has reminded me of what I said. He says he won't be seen in public with them.

Ahem. At 68 I would not wear them as they are too safe and older lady-ish. While I don't wear gold shoes, I think if I did I'd go for some in your face glitter.

I have these , they're Golden Goose and they're my second pair from this brand

They're quite pricey but worth it

Alas I wouldn't be drawn to the Clark's ones - hate the zip detail and they look a bit - dare I say - Hotter esque?

And these look, dare I say? try-too-hard. Trying to look cool complete with faux dirt smudges. No thank you. 😅

TheOwlChronicles · 14/08/2023 00:12

@MysteryBelle ha, that's me all
Over! A bit try hard.

Findyourneutralspace · 14/08/2023 00:18

I’m not a fan of those trainers but if my DH said that I’d make sure I wore them next time he suggested a trip to B&Q

Prestat · 14/08/2023 00:19

I like them, OP.

Holidaystress11 · 13/08/2023 23:10

I quite like those. They aren't bright gold. Quite subtle. Sold out too so clearly others agree!

More likely sold out because of the huge reduction in price.

Lottle · 14/08/2023 00:42

I like them and have a similar pair! Mid 30s

He is NBU. I will not be seen with DH when he wears various items of clothing (Panama hat, snakeskin shoes, jeans with brown shoes etc)

A style of his own. Love it 😁

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 14/08/2023 01:06

I wore my crocs out today… found it a liberating experience.

You do know that the holes are where your dignity leaks out?! Grin

Gold trainers will always instantly make me think 'rapper'; but I'm probably the one who is out of touch there.

SpidersAreShitheads · 14/08/2023 01:53

I wonder if it's what you wear them with OP that would make a difference?

I quite like the zips - I've seen shoes with zips in that place which are purely decorative. It didn't occur to me that a zip would be a feature to make putting shoes on easier for the elderly!

But if you're worried about looking a bit old before your time, perhaps you could wear them with funky clothing so they look more like an ironic, retro statement rather than comfy, old lady shoes (not that there's anything wrong with that either!)

It's like when you see younger women wearing old-fashioned style dresses (sorry, don't know how to describe them!) with clumpy shoes or trainers, whereas someone older might wear court shoes with the same dress. So the same dress ends up looking totally different depending on the accessories. I just wonder if this might work in reverse with these shoes?

Yes, definitely avoid a white shell suit and chunky gold dollar medallion!

My DM has those. She's 73.

I think that is about the proper age range for those shoes.

😄 personally, I probably need to try harder 😂

BestieBunch · 14/08/2023 09:57

My DM has these, she’s 71… but I bloody love them x

DottyLottieLou · 14/08/2023 10:09

Nothing wrong with them. They're great.

PandaExpress · 14/08/2023 10:25

Just wear them and love them! I wouldn't think they were old lady shoes. I'd happily wear them.
I've got these Nike Air force ones in rose gold. Very comfortable and not narrow. I brought them a few years ago.

Good lord, my nana would wear those trainers. Your DP is not unreasonable 😂

Thoughtful2355 · 14/08/2023 10:43

to be fairThose trainers make me think of two things
a chav who should also be wearing a gold and white tracksuit with big hoop earrings.

OR

An elderly lady that dresses... funky....

ErinAndTonic · 13/08/2023 23:32

They're fine. Hardly brass doorknobs. I was about to come on and say I'd feel like it was a bit tacky walking around if someone had reflective chrome wet look shoes on their feet, but these are so subtle the gold tone is barely noticeable, just like a pair of metallic sandals etc, so more tasteful than my first assumption 😅

Aargh, is there something wrong with brass doorknobs? Please advise, as I am just about to buy a very expensive new front door and I much prefer brass to silver!

Hibiscrubbed · 14/08/2023 11:01

He’s a fucking weirdo. Seriously. What is wrong with those shoes?! Tell him to fuck off. Wear them always.

MNetcurtains · 14/08/2023 11:20

Schemes · 13/08/2023 23:14

So does mine. She's 78.

I think this says it all really 😂

Crikey! There should be a law against that!

i love these. But i'd be lying if I said they were comfy. They took AAAAGES to wear in, ripped the skin at the back of my ankle to shreds and the sole is so thin I'd be as well out in my socks.

But I still love them.

I have these too. I love them, but they're VERY FLAT which is not great for my heels or back. And the fact that I'm complaining about that makes me feel incredibly middle aged 😬😁

DappledThings · 14/08/2023 11:39

I don't get it. I wouldn't have ascribed any particular age range to those shoes.

My 75 year old mum would probably think they were a bit young for her being so bright. I wouldn't agree but I think she'd think that.

They look fine for any age. But I admittedly know fuck all about fashion.
