DP refusing to be seen with me if I'm wearing gold trainers (light hearted)

AIBU?

A few years ago I told my DP that if I ever bought gold shoes he was to take me out and shoot me.

I've now changed my mind and bought myself some gold trainers. I love them and they're really comfy.

But DP doesn't like them and has reminded me of what I said. He says he won't be seen in public with them.

Hmm, they're a bit too bling for my taste but I prioritise comfort over style these days so they have that going for them. At least DH hasn't shot you!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/08/2023 23:26

I think that specific pair are a bit old lady. But I think gold shoes as such can be lovely - especially as they go with almost everything!

KateJohns · 13/08/2023 23:27

I'm suddenly wondering, for some reason, if there is such a thing as black spray paint you can buy from Amazon that works on trainers?

Goldshoesyayornay · 13/08/2023 23:31

You're all making me laugh about my gold trainers and I'm doubting my purchase now even though I'm wearing them now and still loving them.

I'm not a follower of fashion trends and have wide feet so I just can't squeeze into most brands

They're fine. Hardly brass doorknobs. I was about to come on and say I'd feel like it was a bit tacky walking around if someone had reflective chrome wet look shoes on their feet, but these are so subtle the gold tone is barely noticeable, just like a pair of metallic sandals etc, so more tasteful than my first assumption 😅

ErinAndTonic · 13/08/2023 23:34

I personally wouldn't wear them either though. But I wouldn't be offended by your wearing them! 😆

JudgeRudy · 13/08/2023 23:36

I shall keep my eye on the news OP for an unexplained murders!

Goldshoesyayornay · 13/08/2023 23:39

I feel I need educating.

For those of you who do like gold trainers, but not these gold trainers please can you share links to nice and or cooler gold trainers. Bonus points for any brands that come in wide fitting.

I've only tried these on indoors to see if they fit so it's not too late to return them if I can find something more stylish.

Tbf I do like the zip for ease of getting on and off and get that this ages them.

Also, what age range would you consider them suitable for? Looks like a current range of 70s to 90s but would anyone think they'd be ok for someone in 60s or 50s?

If you like them and they suit your style (which it seems you did before reading the comments lol), why switch them?

You're not going to be swanning around town with the mumsnet posters ☺️

Nothing wrong with gold trainers.

But not those gold trainers.

Exactly. I've got gold Reebok Classics and gold Air Force. I have been told they look 'a bit mutton' but I don't care a jot.

Minglemangle007 · 13/08/2023 23:44

To be fair, that style is a bit old lady on a cruise, but then again, I have bright, shiny gold Michael Korrs trainers and I love 'em.

ThePitsofDespair · 13/08/2023 23:44

I have some that are similar, people can wear what they want at any age and bollocks to anyone else.
I’m in my fifties.

IntheJingelyJangelyJungle · 13/08/2023 23:20

I wore my crocs out today… found it a liberating experience.

I’d hope any of us are more than the sum of our footwear, and anyone that judges you on your footwear alone isn’t worth the time or space in your head.

… and I now know I am comfortably middle aged 🙈

ps I like the gold trainers! But then again I wore crocs in public so I wouldn’t trust my fashion judgement.

But Crocs are very on-trend at the moment so I'm not sure what your point is.

Bigcushion · 13/08/2023 23:45

I was going to say yanbu because I assumed by gold trainers you meant gold Nike Air Max or something which are cool. Those trainers are not cool. Maybe that's why he doesn't like them rather than the fact they are gold? They're very old lady.

DeadButDelicious · 13/08/2023 23:48

If you like them and they are comfy, then wear them with pride! I used to wear gold Chelsea boots when I could still wear heels 😂. Now I live in clumpy army boots because they are hard wearing, keep my feet dry and are wide enough. Life is much to short yo worry about gold trainers. He's being daft!

Well that just shows how out of tune with fashion I am! 🤦‍♂️

BingoBastards · 13/08/2023 23:53

Quite like them! It's not like you're going out in nipple tassels.

And foot comfort is king.

Daisythecat15 · 13/08/2023 23:53

I'm with you OP, I like them! And I'm only 32 🤣 granted I wouldn't call myself fashionable by any means

I have some shoes my DP absolutely hates. Him saying he hates them makes me wear them more!!

Somanycats · 13/08/2023 23:55

God. Those trainers are fine. They are trainers. In gold. They look comfortable and practical. Wtf is wrong with 'old lady'? How did we get to the place where we are using the words 'old' and 'lady' as insults? Why is it funny that somebody's 80 year old Nan would wear them? Isn't it likely that she would know more about footwear than someone's 17 year old daughter? Being old is not a bad or unstylish thing.

You're right. I shouldn't say old lady. They're just really unstylish. Horrible.

Op - go big or go home I say. Bold gold. These are half arsed

TheOwlChronicles · 13/08/2023 23:59

I have these , they're Golden Goose and they're my second pair from this brand

They're quite pricey but worth it

Alas I wouldn't be drawn to the Clark's ones - hate the zip detail and they look a bit - dare I say - Hotter esque?

They aren't horrible or unpleasant at all, just not my taste. I feel as though the only way to do these justice is to wear them with neutrals from Gerry Weber and carry a handheld fan. A husband with a transparent plastic pouch containing the relevant Berlitz guide round his neck too.

@TheLadyOfTheLakes https://www.clarksoutlet.co.uk/p/261666564060

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing my mum started wearing metallic shoes a lot and I didn't like them. I thought they were 'older lady' shoes. I'm a few years older now and have come to appreciate them.

Those are adorable! I like them!
