Do I need to go to hospital?

I’ve got an infected bite that’s not clearing from anti biotics in fact it’s spreading. Virtual GP app yesterday said looked like cellulitis gave me some antibiotics beginning with F. It’s been 48 hrs and it’s just getting bigger. I’ve made another virtual GP app but do I need to be seen in person at urgent care or anything?

really conscious because I know someone who had cellulitis that ended up septic on a drip In hospital

What do you mean by it's spreading? Pic?

doubtit · 04/08/2023 18:49

But yes if in doubt go in

IamAlso4eels · 04/08/2023 18:50

I'd go to out of hours/urgent care, a spreading infection that isn't responding to antibiotics is an emergency situation.

Asparagus1 · 04/08/2023 18:50

Yes I’d go

Merryoldgoat · 04/08/2023 18:50

If the infection is spreading after antibiotics then yes.

I had an infected thumb a while back and the doctor told me A&E if it got worse at any point (which it didn’t).

Ohgodmylegmyleg · 04/08/2023 18:52

How long after anti biotics?

Draw a line around it and go out of hours GP (if available in your area), to show the spread.

HappyJoyousFree · 04/08/2023 18:54

If you're worried or feel ots getting worse speak to a health professional. Maybe 111? Have you drawn a circle round it to see if it's spreading?

I’ve done that over the last day that’s how I know it’s spreading.

will another virtual GP appointment be sufficient?

Usually things start to get better after 48 hours of antibiotics do they not?

Waynettaaa · 04/08/2023 18:54

I always react badly to bites and got cellulitis last time. Dr gave me antibiotics and said if it wasn't improving in a few hours I was to go back. If it got worse, I was told I had to go straight to A&E.

You definitely need to go in.

Ohgodmylegmyleg · 04/08/2023 18:54

I’ve got another virtual gp app at 9pm, should I try and get seen before? Or just hang tight ?

You need to go to the urgent care centre or hospital.

lissie123 · 04/08/2023 18:55

Please go to hospital.

Ohgodmylegmyleg · 04/08/2023 18:55

I’ve only had the anti biotics a day and a half does that matter?

Seriously, you should go to A&E.

megletthesecond · 04/08/2023 18:57

I'd go now before the Friday drinking accidents start arriving.

Ohgodmylegmyleg · 04/08/2023 18:58

So not bother with 111?

It might take a while to get better but it shouldn’t get worse. Go.

BlossomCloud · 04/08/2023 19:03

Definitely go to hospital.

SgtBilko · 04/08/2023 19:04

Get yourself to A&E.

spacer · 04/08/2023 19:06

Definitely go now before Friday night drinkers.

Amniceandgenuine · 04/08/2023 19:09

Absolutely. If Flucloxacillin hasn’t kicked in by now ,then yes . A colleague was on ITU with sepsis after being bitten by an insect .
