Do I need to go to hospital?

I’ve got an infected bite that’s not clearing from anti biotics in fact it’s spreading. Virtual GP app yesterday said looked like cellulitis gave me some antibiotics beginning with F. It’s been 48 hrs and it’s just getting bigger. I’ve made another virtual GP app but do I need to be seen in person at urgent care or anything?

really conscious because I know someone who had cellulitis that ended up septic on a drip In hospital

Go! I left cellulitis in my leg after a football injury and ended up really poorly. Nothing to be messed with.

Absolutely. If Flucloxacillin hasn’t kicked in by now ,then yes . A colleague was on ITU with sepsis after being bitten by an insect .

After 36 hrs?

I’ll head out now!

sorry I always second guess myself with stuff like this, don’t want to be a burden

Yes, it should not be getting worse after 36 hours of antibiotics

Newjobformoremoney · 04/08/2023 19:18

My dad almost died of cellulite that became septics. Please take yourself to hospital if the antibiotics aren’t working. Usually a IV drip changes things fast if picked up early.

Ohgodmylegmyleg · 04/08/2023 19:21

dh called 111 and they said call asda pharmacy

Where the bite is, you could lose your limb. You could die, something in between. It's that serious.
You need to be at the emergency room.

Holidaystress11 · 04/08/2023 19:23

Just go to a and e OP

NorthernGirlie · 04/08/2023 19:23

Hospital

I've had cellulitis 4 times, I've needed IV antibiotics 3 of those times

Fam23 · 04/08/2023 19:26

Definitely a&e if you’re still wondering based on your 111 call.
I’ve recently looked after a patient who was treated for cellulitis with oral antibiotics but despite it not improving he didn’t come to the hospital until day 3 and he then needed 10 days of intravenous antibiotics.
Absolutely best to get checked out.

Newjobformoremoney · 04/08/2023 19:27

@Fam23 sounds like you treated my dad!

Just go!
DH had an infected bite and rang 111. He told them I thought it looked like cellulitis and the operator said in that case go to a&e. ( no medical qualifications)
He was given intravenous antibiotics and some to take away.

What? This makes no sense. Go to urgent care. Cellulitis is horrid, painful and can be life threatening.

Jellycats4life · 04/08/2023 19:32

Please just get yourself checked over in person by a doctor or nurse OP.

Swishswish26 · 04/08/2023 19:33

Flucloxacillin absolutely never works on my insect bites and I now always tell the GP I don’t want it prescribed ( I do seem to get bitten often!) You should always seek medical advice or go back to hospital if it is worsening or the area is getting larger.

Dymaxion · 04/08/2023 19:36

If you have had antibiotics for 36 hours and it is getting worse, then I would go to A&E, they can do a full assessment to check that it is cellulitis, plus obs and bloods and give you IV's if needed.

ElFupacabra · 04/08/2023 19:37

My uncle’s partner’s son has sadly passed from complications following sepsis after an insect bite. Please get it seen.

I called asda and they were confused also

Definitely go!
My DH got cellulitis from an insect bite, ended up in IV antibiotic drip and nearly lost his foot!

mimiku · 04/08/2023 19:40

One of my sons had cellulitis last year and there was a noticeable difference and the swelling was reducing within 24 hours of starting. I’d go and get checked out.

Royalbloo · 04/08/2023 19:41

Go now. They won't mind x

andlwpan · 04/08/2023 19:42

Why are you wasting time calling ASDA 🤦‍♀️

Kinneddar · 04/08/2023 19:44

OP - should I go to A&E
Absolutely everyone on the thread - YES!!!

OP doesn't go to A&E

Mysleepisbroken · 04/08/2023 19:44

Given you've got a virtual appointment in just over an hour, I'd wait for that as it's highly unlikely that you'd be seen by anyone else in that time.

porridgeisbae · 04/08/2023 19:45

I would go, cellulitis isn't caused by a bite anyway is it?

Sounds like a bite that's gone dodgily manky.
