Do I need to go to hospital?

I’ve got an infected bite that’s not clearing from anti biotics in fact it’s spreading. Virtual GP app yesterday said looked like cellulitis gave me some antibiotics beginning with F. It’s been 48 hrs and it’s just getting bigger. I’ve made another virtual GP app but do I need to be seen in person at urgent care or anything?

really conscious because I know someone who had cellulitis that ended up septic on a drip In hospital

Given you've got a virtual appointment in just over an hour, I'd wait for that as it's highly unlikely that you'd be seen by anyone else in that time.

I disagree. They can't give her meds in a virtual appointment. She'll be triaged at a &e

dh called 111 and they said call asda pharmacy

Wtf are Asda pharmacy going to do?!?

BlossomCloud · 04/08/2023 19:45

Op ,.just go. The longer you leave it the more expensive it will be for the NHS to get you better.

FeigningConcern · 04/08/2023 19:46

GO TO A&E!!!!!

CC123456 · 04/08/2023 19:46

Should I go to hospital?
Yes definitely
Proceeds to do everything except go to hospital

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 04/08/2023 19:47

Why aren't you at A&E?

This could kill you.

meercat23 · 04/08/2023 19:48

Are you sure they said Asda Pharmacy and not Accident and Emergency. Not being silly, if the line wasn't good it could sound similar.

AnnaMagnani · 04/08/2023 19:49

Have you taken any anti-histamines?

Cellulitis from bites is very rare.

Allergies to insect bites are common, and often misdiagnosed as cellulitis.

Emmamoo89 · 04/08/2023 19:51

Definitely go to hospital

QuestionableMouse · 04/08/2023 19:51

Ohgodmylegmyleg · 04/08/2023 18:58

So not bother with 111?

111 will send you there anyway.

WiddlinDiddlin · 04/08/2023 19:52

Cellulitis absolutely can be caused by a bite, its a bacterial infection in the skin and a puncture wound particularly a small one that most people would disregard is a bloody excellent way to do that. A puncture wound caused by an insect that has who knows what on its biting mouthparts, in its saliva etc... even better.

Definitely go to A&E, you can show them how much it has spread since starting the antibiotics - it should have at least stopped spreading by now, if not actually receding.

Quartz2208 · 04/08/2023 19:52

If you have a doctor appointment take that. When I had mine I was on two types of antibiotics. they will tell you wether to head to A&E

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 04/08/2023 19:54

I mean, why WOULDN'T you go if it was spreading :s

Ralye · 04/08/2023 19:54

Yep, hope you've gone op.

romdowa · 04/08/2023 19:55

If you suspect cellulitis then you need to go to a n e for Iv antibiotics. Oral ones clearly aren't working, several people have told you the same. Stop faffing with 111 and asda and just go

NorthernGirlie · 04/08/2023 19:56

My first bout of cellulitis was from a bite.

Subsequent ones from randomly broken skin - you're more susceptible once you've had it once

Please go op, it can turn very nasty very quickly

whatabeautifulwedding · 04/08/2023 19:56

Another vote to get it seen in A&E

Ohgodmylegmyleg · 04/08/2023 19:57

andlwpan · 04/08/2023 19:42

Why are you wasting time calling ASDA 🤦‍♀️

Dh did

kayserah · 04/08/2023 19:58

Please go to hospital

Gilmorehill · 04/08/2023 19:58

Go to A and E then.

Ralye · 04/08/2023 19:59

Ohgodmylegmyleg · 04/08/2023 19:57

Dh did

@Ohgodmylegmyleg Are you on you way to A&E? You really need to get it checked, cellulitis can absolutely be cause by an insect bite and if it rapidly spreading get over there asap.

Temporaryname158 · 04/08/2023 19:59

So are you now on your way to A and E? Why ask if you are going to ignore everyone’s consistent advice

Ohgodmylegmyleg · 04/08/2023 19:59

meercat23 · 04/08/2023 19:48

Are you sure they said Asda Pharmacy and not Accident and Emergency. Not being silly, if the line wasn't good it could sound similar.

They definitely said asda pharmacy as they can refer to out of hours apparently being an enhanced service..

the pharmacist at asda strongly disagreed.

im in a taxi on the way too urgent care which happens to be right next to a and e in the local hospital anyway

Ralye · 04/08/2023 20:01

Good.

@Ohgodmylegmyleg Let them know it's spread, did you draw a line or anything around the redness?

All the best.

Gcsunnyside23 · 04/08/2023 20:02

Glad to hear you're in your way, definitely don't mess around with infected bites I ended up v.poorly with this by not getting it checked again.
