I grew up in the 90s and was distracted by boybands and found Pinks music genetic and nothing special.

I've just watched her tribute to Sinead O'Connor and her duets with Kelly Clarkson and I'm blown away by her as a performer and a person.

I wasn’t fussed until I saw her live, realised how genuinely brilliant her voice is and have been a huge fan since! It’s always a good time to discover new artists.

batsandeggs · 02/08/2023 20:34

New or old* artists I should say!!

RabbitsRock · 02/08/2023 20:35

Would love to see her live

magicalkitty · 02/08/2023 20:37

I think her music would have been more popular in the UK if it was out at a different time. Maybe a decade later.

At the time she was making her first music, plastic, fluffy girl and boy bands were in with teeny bop songs.

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 02/08/2023 20:38

YABU to have not appreciated her so far!! She’s spectacular in so many ways.

DisforDarkChocolate · 02/08/2023 20:39

I've been a fan for a long time, saw her live this year and my mind was blown. She is beyond amazing.

I know. In my defense my Walkman (I'm that old) was filled with Gareth gates, g4 and hearsay.

I think little mix will be the equivalent in the future where folk will go ...oh wow.

Pink is not someone who goes unnoticed. Never missed noticing her

RayKray · 02/08/2023 20:42

I'm the same with miley Cyrus. Only recently discovered her and she's not what I thought. Cos I listen to Miley I keep getting Pink recommended so should do some more listening to her.

AngeloMysterioso · 02/08/2023 20:43

I like her voice and she seems like a nice person, but I do find her “I’m such a tough girl, you don’t want to mess with me” vibe a bit tired at this point

She’s amazing, musically, vocally, performance - honestly when they talk about X factor she has it in droves. May I recommend Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken? It’s so raw. I love all of the songs mentioned, along with Raise Your Glass and So What, such absolute F You songs.

Im just discovering Miley as well, she really is fab all round.

PickoftheMix · 02/08/2023 20:49

Have you watched Pink's documentary on Netflix? It's really good!

I wasn't a fan back in the day. It's only since Beautiful Trauma really, and I think she's great! Watching her interviews, it's clear that whilst the other famous singers around her were going off the rails, Pink stepped back and worked on her live vocals as well as those acrobatics she did. She has certainly played the long game well, which is why she's so successful now, even in her 40s.

Danikm151 · 02/08/2023 20:49

Have a listen of Dear Mr President.

I’ve loved her since the “grim” days. I grew up listening to her- she got me through my teens 😂

I was absolutely gutted to miss out on tickets to see her live because I couldn’t justify the £100+ cost of one ticket but still listen to her regularly.

WildUnchartedWaters · 02/08/2023 20:54

Making a list, thank you!

'Pink, get doon!'

Pickingmyselfup · 02/08/2023 20:57

I've been a Pink fan since I wa a teenager and now at the grand old age of 36 I still think she's great.

Sometimes though we don't always click with someone until many years after we "should have done"

I feel like she's genuinely a nice person who doesn't take any shit. I don't doubt that she has her flaws like many of us though.

Maerchentante · 02/08/2023 21:01

I had been aware of her music and quite liked a few of her song. My sister wanted to go to one of her concerts, I think it was the Fun House tour and dragged me along. I wasn't expecting much, really, but hands down, it was the best concert I have been to.
Couldn't get tickets for Hyde Park and would have gone to the Munich concert with my sister, but she forgot to buy me a ticket despite me saying that I'd 100% be in Germany that week.

Thisismynewusername1 · 02/08/2023 21:03

I think- and I’m sure I’ve seen her refer to it in interviews- part of the problem was her record company initially tried to market her as an R&B artist.

clearly she isn’t, and that’s not what she does, but she missed out on a lot of fans in those early days. But then she wasn’t a baby pop star (Britney and Christina) or a girl band either.

she’s fantastic at what she does, and she’s a better singer than most. The problem was she struggles to “fit”- only got played in r&b charts in the early days, a lot of her stuff isn’t really “pop”, and she gets a bit overshadowed by the hype around the likes of Beyoncé. Who I think she’s better than Tbf.

I don't like beyonce at all.

I thought Christina had a stunning voice but again, like with leona, i think they're criminally misdirected into hideous pop music. Nicole scherzinger is another example.

Her niche is very much the kelly Clarkson style acoustic and she is stunning.

Saw her at the o2 years ago with one of her first shows with the aerobatics. God she was amazing. Her voice was and still is flawless. Always loved her. Lucky you OP, catching up with all her stuff.

WildUnchartedWaters · 02/08/2023 21:08

On that note I don't think adele would have succeeded in the 90s.

I Love pink. In my early 20s my anthem was Don't let me get me. That song could have been written about me
