I grew up in the 90s and was distracted by boybands and found Pinks music genetic and nothing special.

I've just watched her tribute to Sinead O'Connor and her duets with Kelly Clarkson and I'm blown away by her as a performer and a person.

@SleepingStandingUp
For me a singer is just a singer. They can have their opinions of course but I can't stand the narcissistic nature of some celebrities who think that because they're famous everybody should shut up and sit down and listen to their views.
Their views are no more valid then anyone else's.

I'd find it really odd to have such a huge personality in showbiz for so long have to be this one dimensional person who's not really allowed to express political opinions. I mean I wanna know who I'm spending all that dinner ticket money on. I want to know what size she is on the Us abortions limits thing. Not to mention how it influences certain some (Dear Mr President for example). She's not a sticker in a teen magazine, she's a real live human , even if you think her music is shit, her style is wank and her politics are the wrong side
I'd want to know

I love her too. Love the song run. Her new song when I get there she wrote for her dad who died.

She didn't write that song, she's openly discussed how she is nowhere near ready to do that yet

GlitchStitch · 03/08/2023 01:30

The abortion issue in the US is massive. Loads of people talk about it on their social media, famous or not. Why shouldn't Pink also have an opinion on it. As a woman and mother of a girl of course she will have stuff to say.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 03/08/2023 01:37

I love love love P!nk. If I could afford it I'd definitely be seeing her live. Maybe one day.

When DC were small their favourite song was "so what" but we usually listened to the radio edit so didn't realise there were swear words. Then my mum made a slide show for DS1 to take into school (he was either year R, or 1) with the album version on. Luckily none of the other DC seemed to notice Blush

She can have an opinion but if she had the opposite opinion no doubt she'd be cancelled.
She also needs to recognise that she can't say 'my body my choice' AND support forced vaccination, that just doesn't make sense.
As I said I was a huge fan in her early days but since I've grown up she no longer appeals to me.

But they are still valid right? So she has as much right to rant on twitter etc as you. You're also welcome to wade onto the US abortion issue, I don't see why you should be allowed to post on it, but because she's famous if she does she's a narcissist.

And their behaviour and politics does matter, otherwise I'd have gone and seen Flash which I was really looking forward to and the lead guy has ruined by being a bad man

I haven't seen the posts you're referring to on forced Vax so cannot comment. Re being cancelled, if she was anti abortion it would make a huge difference to how lots of people see her and respond to her, which is fair enough. She wouldn't be cancelled, she'd just have different fans but that type of conservative viewpoint would likely also influence other aspects of her persona and songs

LordSalem · 03/08/2023 03:50

Self claimed "rock star" sell out for radio plays. Big mouth with fuck all to back it up. "All fur coat and no knickers" as a relative used to say. I've no respect for her at all.

ohfook · 03/08/2023 06:13

I feel like that about linkin park and miley Cyrus. Both were just never on my radar at all, I'd even seem LP live with a friend at a festival but hadn't massively paid attention, then when Chester died and their songs were all over the radio I realised that each one was an absolute tune. They're one of my favourite bands now.

MC was after I heard her radio 1 live lounge sessions. As some posters have said about other artists I think she's been very poorly marketed. She's more than twerking and being nude on wrecking balls - I genuinely think she's got the best vocals of any artist around at the minute just it took a live session for me to realise. The production of her songs really doesn't always showcase the full extent of her talent imo.

Anyway in short it's great when theirs happens it shows we're open to change and we don't have to wait ages for new songs to come out because they already have a huge back catalogue!

fullbloom87 · 03/08/2023 10:09

@SleepingStandingUp

Yes she has a right to comment on twitter but it's not so much that she voiced her opinion it's more about the way in which she voiced it. Just this aggressive 'woke' style I'm not keen on.

fullbloom87 · 03/08/2023 10:16

@SleepingStandingUp

Honestly I don't think she'd have a career anymore if she was anti vax. Plenty of celebrities have been cancelled for sharing their opinions on covid that don't quite fit in line.
I'm not anti vax but I believe in the 'your body your choice' stance, and don't see how you can promote that stance with abortion and then turn around and say you call for forced vaccination and actually partner with Pfizer.

This thread and the tribute she did to Sinead O'Connor with Pink made me look up Brandi Carlile. I've listened to her newest album twice today and now I feel like starting a thread called 'AIBU to have missed out on Brandi Carlile all these years.' Thanks to the posters who mentioned her.

Gemzee · 03/08/2023 19:13

Late to this post, just to say I've been a P!nk fan since her first album (honestly, think I was about 18), have seen her live twice in the last 4 years and only loved her more and more since then. Her live voice cannot be beaten (hanging upside down singing live is quite something!)

I discovered Brandi last year and I've listened to her non stop since then!

The story is my absolute favourite.

Rachie1973 · 04/08/2023 22:04

I took my stepdaughter to see her in 2004 when she was 16, because a friend let her down.

I think I got my first girl crush lol.

I’m 50 now and still think she’s fab

Iris1976 · 04/08/2023 22:10
