Sunak is an enemy of children - he must go

He now wants to get rid of 20mph speed limits. Maybe when one of his kids gets run over on the way to the park will he give a shit. I despise him.

Ridiculous title

twinkletoesimnot · 30/07/2023 19:32

But one of his won't.
Chauffeur driven to and from their exclusive play area or private school.
This is the problem.

Lasttraintolondon · 30/07/2023 19:34

Agreed, ridiculous title. But the pro-pollution pro-car stuff he's tilting to right now looks very much like desperation.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 30/07/2023 19:45

I've not seen a 20mph area that actually works. Either they're too bendy for 30 or cars do 30 if not more. Its not a speed limit that people take much notice of.

cardibach · 30/07/2023 19:46

@BaronessEllarawrosaurus Than it needs enforcing. It’s a completely reasonable speed for built up areas.

DelilahBucket · 30/07/2023 19:52

What a goady title!
Hardly ever see anyone driving at 20mph locally, more like 40. I've lost count of how many times I've been over taken. At best other drivers are up my arse because I drove at the speed limit.
There are other things that are a greater threat to our children though, like the lack of people actually parenting. Definitely a bigger issue here than speed of cars, and what causes far more problems. Especially when those children are the ones nearly running people over on unregistered dirt bikes riding around the parks with 2-3 people on them.

Hbh17 · 30/07/2023 19:53

This title is ludicrous!

Endlesssummer2022 · 30/07/2023 20:23

Remember the signs? ‘Twenty is plenty’ and ‘kill your speed, not a child’. It was precisely because absent minded children chasing after balls or their friends were getting knocked over and they are much likelier to survive being hit at 20mph than 30mph. 20mph are usually around schools for a reason.

SgtPercyTwentyman · 30/07/2023 20:25

Goady crap. The thread title, not the Prime Minister's statement.

Titicacacandle · 30/07/2023 20:32

I'm happy for the ridiculous 20s to go back to 30s. No-one does 20 anyway.

It would make more impact to have it at 20 during school drop offs and have it enforced rather than making roads that shouldn't be 20, 20.

DrManhattan · 30/07/2023 20:49

Hes horrible. Zero integrity. If he cared about this country he would have resigned ages ago.

CurlewKate · 30/07/2023 20:52

People certainly stick to 20 in my town.

lljkk · 30/07/2023 20:53

Rat Run Rishi

Rat Run Rishi is On the side of people speeding down your street making it unsafe for your children. Great look mate. But fine, just so long as you are "on the side of the motorist"

Somanycats · 30/07/2023 20:54

Well Ulez won Uxbridge for the conservatives, so expect to see much more of this. Time and time again it has been proven that people vote out of self interest.

ShatnerzBassoon · 30/07/2023 20:56

Trouble with a twenty zone is it feels very uncomfortable when people are behind you if you actually stick to the twenty. I doubt the police even stick to twenty on them most of the time.

I’d probably say keep them if already there but don’t go round busting people for doing 25mph in them.

DoubleShotEspresso · 30/07/2023 20:58

20 is totally unrealistic and nobody genuinely sticks to it. Agree with previous poster, Rishi (I am no fan) just looks desperate with this, but it's about time the ridiculous and ill thought out road changes that have brought complete misery to so many are challenged. A review that actually looks at the lack of consultations, adequate independent analysis of safety, pollution levels with and without these schemes is welcome, then implement what is needed instead of what benefits an entitled few.

megletthesecond · 30/07/2023 20:58

His kids will never be walking anywhere so it won't occur to him why 20 is better than 30.

noblegiraffe · 30/07/2023 21:02

Rishi is utterly desperate, tweeting today that Labour are 'anti-motorist'.

So he's now trying to make road safety a culture war? And the same for climate change?

What a shitty, amoral, clinging to power, soundbite-trotting twat of a weak leader he is. No integrity, no vision or values, simply saying whatever he thinks might sway any votes in his favour from the rapidly dwindling pool of people stupid enough to consider voting for his party after a dire 13 years in government.

Zanatdy · 30/07/2023 21:11

My old town in Wales is 20 and the Facebook group is never ending posts about it. Everyone hates it. Main roads - back to 30, around schools - estates fine stick to 20

BunnyBettChettwynd · 30/07/2023 21:16

What @noblegiraffe said.

I wanted to say something like this but doubt I could better it. Spot on.

FOJN · 30/07/2023 21:32

OP no one gives a shit if you despise RS. Play the ball, not the man, if you don't want to look like a dick.

I'm really surprised by the comments here about 20 mph speed limits in residential areas. I agree with them and stick to them. I don't have children or claim to be a paragon of virtue but I do think they are safer.

blackpear · 30/07/2023 21:35

Well said noble.
sunak is a small-minded, pathetic, selfish bastard.

BunnyBettChettwynd · 30/07/2023 21:39

Sunak's recently received a fixed penalty notice for being in a moving car without a seatbelt. He's obviously not too bothered about road safety for himself or anyone else.

I find this too. Sticking to twenty gets people up behind you.

Going by majority yabu vote on thread maybe that’s why.

I still stick to it though.
