He now wants to get rid of 20mph speed limits. Maybe when one of his kids gets run over on the way to the park will he give a shit. I despise him.

Most of those power hungry selfish dunderheads hate children and indeed humanity.

This thread shows how many people shouldn't really be behind the wheel at all.

Guavafish1 · 31/07/2023 00:28

should make it 15mph

HeddaGarbled · 31/07/2023 00:34

I support 20mph speed limits on appropriate roads.

I don’t think Rishi Sunak is “an enemy of children”.

I voted YABU because I deplore that sort of sensationalist nonsense, which is the tactic of untrustworthy politicians and media, and allows unscrupulous liars like Trump, Johnson, Bolsonaro etc, to flourish.

You could have started a very sensible and intelligent discussion on the topic, but decided to go all Daily Mail.

This is Mumsnet, not Twitter. You need to raise your game here.

Don’t feed the troll (aka goldenspear). A wind up merchant.

im sorry you lost your sibling in a road accident, I can only imagine how heartbreaking that must have been for your whole family. The long term impact must be indescribable.

I consider myself politically homeless and will vote on policies relating to the environment, social care, girls/women’s safety and education. Everything I hear leads me further away from the tories and disheartened with the tories moral compass.

Is “No, nooo, driving at 20mph actually makes people MORE dangerous!”the 2023 version of “No listen, seriously, I drive BETTER after I’ve had a drink”?

kirinm · 31/07/2023 10:13

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 30/07/2023 19:45

I've not seen a 20mph area that actually works. Either they're too bendy for 30 or cars do 30 if not more. Its not a speed limit that people take much notice of.

Most of London is 20mph.

kirinm · 31/07/2023 10:26

I think Rishi Sunak is an enemy of pretty much everyone that isn't a big corporation.

noblegiraffe · 31/07/2023 10:34

Is an aversion to 20mph zones why Rishi flies everywhere by helicopter?

Both parties are going by Uxbridge

Labour with their squabbling over ULEZ and Khan and this

kirinm · 31/07/2023 10:37

Labour should be ashamed of themselves for going against Khan to appease a borough who've always voted Tory.

Most of London is 20mph.

They exist I'm not disputing that, I live on one myself however it doesn't make any difference to the speed people drive at for any of the ones I know

StopStartStop · 31/07/2023 13:02

All residential areas should be 20mph. No reason to go faster.

Sounds about right!

muddlingthrou · 31/07/2023 13:03

I'm with you OP. The whole 'attack on motorists' rights' thing is absolutely laughable. Cars are there to get you from A to B, you do not have a god-given right to put your foot down.

I live in an area that has been 20mph for a while and you barely notice it after a few days. It's safer for all.

SinnerBoy · 17/04/2024 16:22

DoubleShotEspresso · 30/07/2023 20:58

20 is totally unrealistic and nobody genuinely sticks to it.

I don't think it's unrealistic and I stick to the limit. I put the car in third and use very little pressure on the pedal. Fewer people seem to come steaming up to tailgate, these days. I'd be devastated if I knocked someone down, especially if I was doing 10mph over the limit.

SinnerBoy · 17/04/2024 16:25

toomuchlaundry · 30/07/2023 22:33

I don’t think all 20 zones are enforceable but just advisory.

If the sign is a normal round one, white with a red edging, that's the stipulated limit for the road and you should adhere to it. Other signs may have black, or green boundaries and those are advisory.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 17/04/2024 16:29

We have a 20 mile an hour speed limit round us. Very very quiet roads.

Meanwhile 2 massive secondaries on one huge junior all leave via 2 exits within 100 yards of each other. There isn’t enough room on the pavements, even though leaving times are staggered. Onto a horribly busy B Road that’s always rammed. Kids often fall into the road. There’s only just room for 2 people in some places.

The 30 mph speed limit has stayed there. Which road needs it the most?

WatermelonWaveclub · 17/04/2024 16:34

He's an idiot. At my DC's Primary they had school street which meant no vehicles except residents or emergency could drive down the road at school run times. It was great. Actual barriers is the only way to deal with dangerous drivers.
