To think it's not a Roast Dinner if there are no potatoes of any form!

Prompted by a comment I've just seen about a roast dinner being just meat and veg as there are already enough carbs in the carrots and parsnips 😫

I would have a mini breakdown if I was served that. When will this madness end?

No roast potatoes on a roast dinner?! 😫

cushioncovers · 30/07/2023 15:14

That's preposterous. Block anyone who says this from your life.

Ginny26 · 30/07/2023 15:14

Need potatoes! It's a must 🥔 mash and roasties!! Yorkshire pudding and stuffing also!

Augend23 · 30/07/2023 15:15

I think the potatoes are essential but the form of the potatoes (mashed, roasted, dauphinois) is optional.

Glittertwins · 30/07/2023 15:15

Sod the parsnips, it's all about the roast potatoes!!!

ILoveMontyDon · 30/07/2023 15:16

You need to go 'no contact' on this one. I would cry.

RedLem0nade · 30/07/2023 15:17

A roast dinner is really just a vehicle for potatoes, butter and gravy IMHO. YANBU.

GoodChat · 30/07/2023 15:17

It's just meat and veg with no potatoes. There should be at least two forms of potato on any roast.

Anyone who serves a 'roast' with no potatoes should be added to some kind of watch list.

EarthlyNightshade · 30/07/2023 15:17

Mini breakdown?
Mini breakdown is for when potatoes are present but not roasties.
No potatoes at all is a full on catastrophe!

MsVestibule · 30/07/2023 15:17

FFS. It's not a roast until there are at least 2 different types of potatoes, preferably mash and roast potatoes. And Yorkshire puddings.

Who are these miserable mentalists who think there are enough carbs in carrots and parsnips? What sad little lives they must lead.

Agreed!

OP, YANBU. You don't need people like this in your life, it's a legitimate reason to go NC. Grin

Soulesssummer · 30/07/2023 15:17

It's on a thread currently on here. But didn't want it to be a TAAT.

My friend substituted roast potatoes for BROWN RICE on a roast dinner she served once as a “much healthier option”

I was saddened, shocked and appalled 🤯

NuffSaidSam · 30/07/2023 15:20

That's honestly the worst thing I've ever read on here (and I've been here years!).

I expect that poster is a troll or a chatbot type. No-one actually thinks a no potato roast is acceptable.

I hope you went no contact? Or called her a doctor?

Theredjellybean · 30/07/2023 15:22

words fail me....

leopard22 · 30/07/2023 15:23

It can't be named a ROAST without ROAST potatoes! I can't believe anyone would consider eating one without.

I thought being served 1 roast on my Christmas dinner at the in laws was bad..

Florabundance · 30/07/2023 15:24

"No roast potatoes"...am I correct..."no roast potatoes !".

I'm reporting your post for making derogatory comments 🤣🤣🤣🤣

toomuchlaundry · 30/07/2023 15:24

Definitely sod the parsnips 🤮

Potatoes are a must (roast or mash in this house)

Theoldwoman · 30/07/2023 15:25

We don’t always have potatoes with a roast. Actually tonight was one of those nights.

We did have roast beetroot, pumpkin, carrots and steamed broccoli, cauliflower and beans.

BoobyDazzler · 30/07/2023 15:25

Say what?

YANBU. At all! WEIRDOS.

I think I have the number of a helpline she can call ....

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 30/07/2023 15:26

I remember once ending up with mash, roasties and dauphinoise at Christmas over year after some confusion as to who was doing what.

Best Christmas ever.

This is fine as long as you have told everyone in advance so they can manage their expectations.
If you invited me, I'd have a side portion of roast potatoes in my handbag.
