To think the Barbie movie is not for toddlers?

Went with my DH for a childfree date to see the Barbie film. I cringed the moment I saw two women in line for beers in full Barbie outfits with pushchairs and a toddler each.

Of course they sat on the front row and let their kids run back and forth shrieking. Then they actually clipped them into the pushchairs (one crying) AND LEFT THEM TO BUY MORE BEER. I went and asked the manager to come in, and she asked them to make sure the kids were seated.

10 minutes later one takes both kids out. We thought we finally had a reprieve, but NO, they came in with massive bags of sweets. So then they were hopped up on sugar! Cue more shrieking and running in front of the screen.

The manager returns after others left to complain. They still don't leave, and my DH whispers "We are getting a refund, this is ridiculous."

We spoke to the manager and said maybe they should inform parents of toddlers that a 12A may not be suitable. "Legally, they are allowed."

To quote another person as we left "I have never wanted to dropkick a kid until today."

AiBU to just want people to be considerate to others AND their kids and tell them to stay home.? Not a toddler film.

Behaviour like this is the reason I don't go to the cinema any more. Parents let young kids run riot, adults constantly on their phone. Lots of people talking.

Going to the cinema costs a lot of money and it's no longer enjoyable

Absolutely agree with you. It's a shame.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/07/2023 00:30

I watched a TikTok earlier which was a “mummy and mini Barbie date” - mini is two. We’re going to see Barbie tomorrow evening and I really hope it isn’t full of little children running around.

Nothing to do with Barrie and everything to do with shit parenting and selfish individuals

Exactly, Barrie is not to blame for what happens in a Barbie movie, bet they're not even his kids.

@liveforsummer I have been to quite a few different cinemas in the UK and I have never come across one that sells beer, very much not the norm in the cinemas I have been to.

You need a better cinema
Fresh homemade pizza and a lovely glass of red wine, or fan y chicken nachos and a fruit cider to take in with you is great

Bobsledgirl · 24/07/2023 01:24

People can be dim. They just see Barbie and think it must be for kids. I doubt they checked what it was about.

madamepresident · 24/07/2023 02:14

We have cinemas here that have a play area at the front specifically for kids. So if you do want to take your kids to the cinema then you can do so and let them play. We also have them with huge beds so you can lie down and watch a film.

MissingMoominMamma · 24/07/2023 03:56

Just to wade in on the alcohol thing… The Vue here doesn’t sell it, but the independent cinema does.

Hoping that helps those who think that just because their town’s cinema sells it, other people must’ve just not noticed the bar. 😁

Wheelz46 · 24/07/2023 06:13

@SleepingStandingUp I must be old school because alcohol and the cinema just seems wrong to me, I remember when they used to do intervals and someone would come in selling ice cream and more popcorn.

The cinemas, I have been to are great, comfortable and very family friendly is all I need to have a lovely time.

Isnt the film rated 12?

They shouldn't have been
Admitted in the first place

purpleme12 · 24/07/2023 08:40

It's a 12a it even says it in the OP!

This has been more than covered. Confused

Annaisatwat · 24/07/2023 08:49

I have an almost 3 year old.

I wouldn’t take her to any film, she doesn’t like sitting still and being quiet. So I take her to the park, not a bloody cinema.

I don’t know why some parents think it’s okay for their children to run riot and ruin things for everyone else.

As an aside, I always wait a few weeks to see a film so the cinema isn’t as busy. I took my 9 year old
to see Elemental yesterday, we were the only two in the screen.

I just can't get past the fact that you can get beer in a cinema?

They’ve been serving beer in our local cinemas for over 15 years. Trust me, if you’ve ever seen the Emoji movie, you’ll know it’s a necessity!

I voted you are being unreasonable, but only for the fact you went to see Barbie

Silly comment. Greta Gerwig is one of the best writers and directors out there right now. Go watch it - t’s really not what you assume it is.

Bottles of wine in ours. Perfect

I just don't have enough time on this earth left to fill my head full of crap movies. I did see Oppenheimer though and it was incredible. That's just my opinion though, I know Barbie is very very popular and I'm glad you enjoyed it

And I don't have enough time to watch a three hour snooze fest with an Irishman playing a German. But I'm glad you enjoyed it.
See, other people can do patronising, ignorant dismissal too.😎 😪

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 24/07/2023 09:05

Wading into the alcohol and cinema debate - I regularly go to Cineworld in High Wycombe and Ipswich. HW did serve alcohol a few years ago, but it stopped around COVID time (I think). Ipswich never has sold alcohol in the past 5 years.

Toddlers don’t belong in a cinema where people have paid to see a film. End of.

How does it feel to be so superior to the rest of us cretins?

🤣

Yup, I know what film I am seeing next. It’s the one with a lot of pink stuff in it. I’m glad I have enough time on Earth to fill my head with anything I choose.

My cinema (where I am going to watch this film tomorrow with my girlfriends) will sell alcohol for 12A, 15 and 18 screenings: obviously you still have to be 18 for the first two.
