To tell you just how bloody boring today has been

DH away with work
DC doing own thing
Raining
All my friends either busy/out/on hols
My house is already cleaned/tidied/sorted to the hills

I have sat at my breakfast bar all day surfing the net and watching old movies. That's all. No where to go, no one to see. I have never, ever been so bored. EVER. I have now got my works laptop out and am working, to get ahead of the game this week at work as I then off for 3 weeks. I am also going to get a bottle of wine to have while I work.

I have scoffed crap all day and now have terrible IBS

No friends?
not a member of gym?
couldn’t put on a coat and drag yourself for a walk?

all the things I do when weather is pants

NotTooOldPaul · 23/07/2023 18:18

I feel your pain

FairAcre · 23/07/2023 18:18

Yep I know the feeling. DH was out all day and I was looking forward to a day on my own. Turns out it was really boring. Ate too much and spend too much time on my phone.

EdwardianTable · 23/07/2023 18:19

I do sympathise but also the idea of watching movies in a clean and tidy house sounds quite nice! This dreary weather in July is extremely dispiriting, a miserable start to the summer holidays for sure.

Glad it’s not just me having a boring day,it’s been mind numbing.Tidied my airing cupboard out😒

MovedonfromMartin · 23/07/2023 18:20

Apart fromt the IBS, that sounds like a bloody great day!
I would particularly like to be able say, just once in my life ' my house is already clean/tidied sorted'

HellonHeels · 23/07/2023 18:20

WTF? Don't you have a book to read? Exercise class, run in the rain, bake something tasty?

Draw or paint? Sew or knit?

OctogenarianDecathlete · 23/07/2023 18:21

DS(7) fell onto his head this morning and we spent 5 hours in A&E.

Sure, the wait was shorter than in many A&E departments right now. But Oh My God that was full! (DS seems fine, btw).

As PPs said: gym? Craft? Work? Run? Walk? Go buried spotting? Clean the house while no one's there to make a mess? Or lean into it and veg out

HaroldMeaker · 23/07/2023 18:22

I think you’ve just described my dream day 😭

iwantawisteriathisyear · 23/07/2023 18:22

I live for days like that. Love being by myself.

This. Time is a huge gift. I have absolutely no understanding of people who have no idea what to do with themselves.

Thepeopleversuswork · 23/07/2023 18:24

I have to say I would sometimes kill for a day like that (minus the IBS). I actually fantasise about an entire weekend without my DD and DP and anything to do. It never happens.

I would probably be bored by the third day but by God at the moment I would love it.

DontBeBitterGlitter2023 · 23/07/2023 18:24

I can honestly say I've never once been bored in the whole of my adult life...

Im almost 38, no kids and dating someone who is currently away working. Today has consisted of...

  • A leisurely read of the papers in bed
  • Pancakes and bacon for brunch
  • Quick tidy/clean of the house
  • Washing/ironing put away
  • 5k run
  • Long bath with face mask, etc

Now snuggling on the sofa with the cats for a Bridget Jones movie marathon, a 0% G&T and some macarons...

Leftover takeaway later and then read my new book before bed

Perfect!

Rosebel · 23/07/2023 18:24

I'd love a day like that. I'll swap with you, been running round all day and feel exhausted, just in time for work tomorrow.

shouldwemoveintogether · 23/07/2023 18:26

Totally missing the point of the thread but how exactly did you manage to get your house to the state of being 'cleaned/tidied/sorted'. I have my notepad and will take notes....

AlltheFs · 23/07/2023 18:27

You need a horse.

I would absolutely love a day like that. Unfortunately between a 3 year old child, old horse, 2 teeny kittens, mad old hens and a house renovation I don’t get a minutes peace.

Mummymn · 23/07/2023 18:27

I think everyone is being a bit harsh.

I had days like this during lockdown. Just getting the motivation to find stuff to do is sometimes almost impossible!

Diminishingreturns99 · 23/07/2023 18:28

Sorry but I would absolutely love to have the day you had op! I live in a house which by its very nature always has something needing doing to it, and I am never caught up with the housework, so your day sounds like bliss to me!

Could you not have done something creative with your time: drawn or painted or baked or sewn or knitted something, wrote something , read some books, listened to music, planned out a future event or holiday? Offered to run someone an errand? Gone for a walk in a wood?

This probably sounds horribly smug but I am very rarely bored or I have a low boredom threshold I suppose. That probably makes me quite boring as I would love to sit at home and do sod all for a day!

Diminishingreturns99 · 23/07/2023 18:30

Yes sorry forgot about your IBS / sorry you are suffering with that as it can be really miserable. Hope you feel better soon.

I made a banana and walnut loaf, and there is only a 1/4 inch slice left. There is only me here today.

I took up the hems on a new pair of trousers. Good job, fit great in the length now.

Checked out a few restaurants online for my birthday in a weeks time. DP is paying lol. Would like something with outdoor dining space but in this weather it doesn't matter anymore.

Now I'm browsing here, and have YouTube open on the abandoned houses channel. Spooky, but fascinating.

Not bored, never bored, sounds uppity I know but that's the truth.

TerfTalking · 23/07/2023 18:31

Boring day lined up here too, DD away for weekend and I’m feeding her cat.

So I dug all her garden, planted some 50p reduced plants in her garden, brushed her paths, weeded the back. Had a shower there as I was covered in mud. called in at Homebase for grass seed, planted it on her bald patches. Sat with her cat, had a cup of tea then came home and made a Dishoom broccoli salad.

it kept me amused for the day! And I did 13000 steps. Now sat with French rose wine and the salad was great with chargrilled chicken and grains.

All very dull. Reminds me of rainy Sundays as a child with no TV allowed so I ended up racing raindrops down the windowpane, looking at dust motes and stuffing my long hair into my ears so I could enjoy the feeling of pulling it out again. Good times.

Beachside82 · 23/07/2023 18:33

Why on earth would eating a banana loaf and going on you tube and saying you’re not bored be seen as “uppity”? Genuine question!
