To tell you just how bloody boring today has been

DH away with work
DC doing own thing
Raining
All my friends either busy/out/on hols
My house is already cleaned/tidied/sorted to the hills

I have sat at my breakfast bar all day surfing the net and watching old movies. That's all. No where to go, no one to see. I have never, ever been so bored. EVER. I have now got my works laptop out and am working, to get ahead of the game this week at work as I then off for 3 weeks. I am also going to get a bottle of wine to have while I work.

I have scoffed crap all day and now have terrible IBS

Well jel of your house situation. The state of mine makes me want to cry. I can't imagine ever feeling like it's all sorted.

MissDollyMix · 23/07/2023 18:35

DontBeBitterGlitter2023 · 23/07/2023 18:24

I can honestly say I've never once been bored in the whole of my adult life...

Im almost 38, no kids and dating someone who is currently away working. Today has consisted of...

  • A leisurely read of the papers in bed
  • Pancakes and bacon for brunch
  • Quick tidy/clean of the house
  • Washing/ironing put away
  • 5k run
  • Long bath with face mask, etc

Now snuggling on the sofa with the cats for a Bridget Jones movie marathon, a 0% G&T and some macarons...

Leftover takeaway later and then read my new book before bed

Perfect!

Ooh that sounds heavenly!!

OP, I feel you. I have been moping at a loose end today too. All my friends are away on holiday. I have absolutely no mod ey left until pay day. Except I also have a long list of really full tasks I should be doing. My house isn’t sorted so should do that, I should have listed some stuff on eBay, I should have gone to the gym etc. My motivation to do anything has been so low. Instead I’ve surfed on MN, napped on the sofa (slept really badly last night) and helped DD pack for residential camp that she’s off to next week. I blame the weather and a lack of planning on my behalf for this lethargy.

pollyte · 23/07/2023 18:35

Omg same 😭 this weather is driving me mad

Beachside82 · 23/07/2023 18:33

Why on earth would eating a banana loaf and going on you tube and saying you’re not bored be seen as “uppity”? Genuine question!

Oh it's just that some posters seem to have a million things to do and can think of a million things to fill their time with. I can't. The baking and YT are just fillers.

I suppose I don't have to plan to fill the time, it just gets filled organically because I am a lazy mare and less is more. To some that might make me seem up myself. Or just plain lazy I suppose!

Diminishingreturns99 · 23/07/2023 18:51

Northbright · 23/07/2023 18:32

All very dull. Reminds me of rainy Sundays as a child with no TV allowed so I ended up racing raindrops down the windowpane, looking at dust motes and stuffing my long hair into my ears so I could enjoy the feeling of pulling it out again. Good times.

😀

Rabbithole90 · 23/07/2023 18:52

I don't do reading and don't own any books. I find it hard to sit still, I like to be on the go. I am a bit of a clean freak, so my house is usually always as spotless as it can be with 2 DC and a messy DH. Didn't fancy walking in the pouring rain. Didn't do the gym because quite honestly my gym leggings are too tight and I literally have nothing to wear atm. I cannot cook, all my cakes etc turn out sh*t, so I no longer bother.

@shouldwemoveintogether we have a minimalistic house. I have a mantra of everything has a place and everything in its place. With the exception of the DC rooms and our bedroom, we have almost nothing in the rest of the house except furniture and a few pot plants/soft furnishings to make it look a bit homely. No piles of junk, no junk drawers. All the kitchen cupboards are junk free and tidy. Even the cleaning cupboard under the sink is tidy (it gets a quarterly tidy up/sort). If something has not been used in 6 months then it goes in the bin/sold/charity.

I have never felt so alone as I have done today. It's been quite horrible and disheartening tbh.

I can’t fathom anyone thinking that you saying you’ve scoffed a banana cake and spent the day watching you tube videos is you being “up yourself”! 😂

Beachside82 · 23/07/2023 18:53

How old are your children?

and you don’t mention friends?

CallMeDiaz · 23/07/2023 18:54

Yup.

One child playing with his friends on the PlayStation.

One autistic child who can't be tempted out of their room, but also can't be left in the house so I can't go out if she won't.

DH did the garden then went out for a bit.

Me...got so bored I ironed and considered working then remembered my boss is a cunt who doesn't deserve my unpaid time.

Pinkitydrinkity · 23/07/2023 18:55

I have to be honest, this is what most of my weekends are like. So boring. But I prefer that to working so 🤷🏻‍♀️

continentallentil · 23/07/2023 18:56

You can come and tidy my house?? I will provide wine and more junk food?!

I know it’s annoying when you want someone to play with and there’s no one around but you could have gone to the gym / the cinema / taken yourself out for lunch / gone to an exhibition if you are in a bigger town.. or read a book and done an online yoga class to mix in with the wine and food

I’m not saying you should have, but you could have

MadamWhiteleigh · 23/07/2023 18:57

MsNevertherefirst · 23/07/2023 18:22

This. Time is a huge gift. I have absolutely no understanding of people who have no idea what to do with themselves.

But you’re forgetting that some people have too much time and then it becomes a burden rather than a gift.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 23/07/2023 19:00

My god, I’ve spent the day chasing after toddler twins and a five year old in the pissing rain. At this point in the evening I would commit a heinous crime to have kids occupying themselves and enough headspace to work. And a sodding breakfast bar.

continentallentil · 23/07/2023 19:00

Oh I just read your update

In that case I think you need to develop some interests.. not because I think there’s anything wrong with how you spent your day, but because it didn’t make you happy and you can’t rely on other people for entertainment all the time.

You gotta be able to be happy for a day on your own or life gets sad, especially as your kids grow up.

MadamWhiteleigh · 23/07/2023 18:57

That’s not the OP’s situation though, she was just alone for a day.

fussychica · 23/07/2023 19:01

Thought my day was going to be sorted watching the end of the Ashes from 11am but the rain in Manchester intervened so despite being way ahead it was deemed a draw and we lost the Ashes.
Anyway after breakfast and exercises went for a walk to the local nature reserve and stayed dry. Papers and screens pm and just prepared a pizza for dinner. Looking forward to a glass of wine.

Rabbithole90 · 23/07/2023 19:01

DC are 15 & 13 and doing own things with friends.
I could have seen a friend but she has a virus and I don't want to catch it before going away myself. Rest of friends are either on hols or busy today. Literally, there is no one around.
I should have sorted something, anything, for today. I have let the day slip away. I feel it has been wasted. Friends are sending my holiday pics from abroad with the lovely weather.
I def feel like today has been a burden time wise, than a gift. I had the day to myself yesterday too and that was fine as I did all my jobs and enjoyed a day at home getting straight etc But today has been another level. I wont sleep tonight, I've done nothing to tire me out. My gym closed at 5pm today, even if I had the clothes to wear to the gym. I've binged on food out of pure boredom

You don't own any books? Or read?
I can't imagine that.
I just can't.

LilacRain12 · 23/07/2023 19:02

Always had a boring Sunday.
Being careful with money so can't really justify going out to spend, most of the time I do my food shop and just go online, read and watch TV.

HaroldMeaker · 23/07/2023 18:22

I think you’ve just described my dream day 😭

Mine too. I cannot wait till my dc can do their own thing!!

Beachside82 · 23/07/2023 19:03

How often is dh away with work

and when he’s around - what do you usually do over the weekend?

Rabbithole90 · 23/07/2023 19:03

@StrongandNorthern I don't have a single book in my house that is mine. DC do. DH has books, mainly sport related. He has never read them, they were gifts. I don't have the inclination or ability to still still enough to read

OP posts:
Garman · 23/07/2023 19:05

If you like being busy doing things why didn't you head out to a town or village or city for a walk about and some lunch or something? Museum? Movie?

Gerrataere · 23/07/2023 19:06

It’s been a typical Sunday for me. First half is recovering from my wine and takeaway from the night before, horribly bloated and wondering why I keep making that bad choice. Bath, tidying and relaxing. Then go pick up the kids from their dads in the afternoon who always behave like they’ve been fed nothing but Red Bull for the previous 24 hours. Still have the school run tomorrow (still silently swearing about it) then the school holidays will officially start. I wish it was still Saturday evening with my bad choice wine and takeaway, watching crap and ignoring other crap 😂
