I’m curious to hear what you named your dog, or cat (or any other pet you want to include).

and what do you think of human names for pets? I really like them, especially older people names like Mable or Frank.

He’s passed away now, but my daughter named her hamster Trevor

Discobabe98 · 18/07/2023 19:23

Ozzy! He was originally a Toby but as we rehomed him before 8 months we changed it as felt it suited him better. He’s now 1.5 and knows his name

No pets here but we did hear a guy on a walk in the Lake District call out for ‘Gary’. Obviously we thought he had lost someone but turns out Gary was a Jack Russell 😁

We have previously had a dog called Esso and a Guinea pig called Oscar.

The trouble with human names for dogs,E.g. Dave, Steve, is they're supposed to be so hilarious but are very much repeated

tillytoodles1 · 18/07/2023 19:35

I met a Spaniel called Mr Kipling. His owner said he was an "exceeding good dog".

Vicliz24 · 18/07/2023 19:39

I have a female Brodie which means muddy puddle and is very apt and a Foley whippet . Our last dog was Roodog and our cats were Merlin, Grymli , Mindy , Mishka and Grayl . All have nicknames though. We are incapable of not giving everything a nickname.

CombatBarbie · 18/07/2023 19:42

I know a beagle called Craig, a st Bernard called Rodney, a setter called Gemma....

The Craig one just makes me laugh every time I hear him being called.

I used to have a Dog called Debbie, we also had a Charlie and one called Linx.

My current dogs are called Tassel*, Pippa and Lottie.

  • kind of just happened, he was called Taz by previous owner but it didn't suit him. Lord Tassel is a far better fit!
krafttcheesy · 18/07/2023 19:55

Lwg87 · 18/07/2023 20:08

Douglas / Dougie / Dougster / Dougs / D-Bag.

Love him to death, the clever yet silly sausage.

Tia but she was already named when she came to us a 20 weeks.

TroysMammy · 18/07/2023 20:55

My cat is called Haribo. I love Tangfastics but that was a bit of a mouthful. He really is a sweet cat.

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 18/07/2023 21:01

I don't have a dog but I met a very good boy today called Terry!

LlynTegid · 18/07/2023 21:05

I don't have a dog.

About 15 years ago I met Nancy the dog, whose owner was Terry Jones (author and member of Monty Python).

A few weeks ago on my daily walk I met Doug the dog, who ran around me and was very pleased. Thankfully Doug the dog did not try to dig a hole nearby.

Allywill · 18/07/2023 21:08

I don’t have a dog (or a cat) but if I did I would have a highland terrier called Douglas. I would always call him Douglas - never a shortened form.

I don't have a dog, I'm afraid, but I misread the title and assumed your dog's name was Jeff - which I think is a fine, solid name for any dog!

I love your username, I burst out laughing when I read it, my favourite Father Ted episode 🤣🤣🤣
