To think GB News isn't a real news channel?

Because it's mostly comedians and failed/ failing politicians chatting shit?

It's not news, it's something else.

What is the definition of news?

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/07/2023 02:41

Interesting question @WandaWonder.

OP posts:
Bellasignora · 14/07/2023 02:44

So you start a thread about it, just to tell us you don't like it? 😂

Bellasignora · 14/07/2023 02:47

I don't like tinned tomatoes, they give me heartburn.

I think I'll start a thread about that, so all the tomato-haters and I can sit in an echo chamber and see who can say the worst, most insulting things about tinned tomatoes. 🙄

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/07/2023 02:49

I didn't say I didn't like it. I said I don't think it's a news channel.

Yes, it is something else - not compulsory.
So if you don't like it, don't watch it. 🙄

So you like GB news?

Namechangedforthis25 · 14/07/2023 03:01

Yes agreed

its full of has beens taking one hour slots to go on about the same thing mostly - asylum seekers apparently getting penthouses with gyms or what not

and basically rinse and repeat of that - every hour - with a different has been

And the sets and production is worse than on my toddlers pretend shows

it’s so cringe

Allmyghosts · 14/07/2023 03:02

The BBC was when it pretended nothing else on earth was worth reporting on for most of covid? I don't watch any so called news channels, the tiny bits of gb news I have seen were fairly dull or ridiculous. It's all bollocks.

Bellasignora · 14/07/2023 03:02

I don't like tinned tomatoes, I don't think they are 'real' tomatoes

I think I'll start a thread about that, so all those who agree with me can sit in an echo chamber, discussing what a 'real' tomato is and how we think tinned tomatoes should be modified to match our taste.

Then we can criticise those who advertise tinned tomatoes and if their marketing for tinned tomatoes reflects their intelligence, tell them they're in the wrong industry and insult them a bit eg "those who market tinned tomatoes talk shit".

If anyone comes along who loves tinned tomatoes, we can call them out on their 'poor taste' and ignorance.

I think such a thread should go down a storm.

I'll get on with it after the next shift. 🙂

LessonLearnedOrLearnt · 14/07/2023 03:02

They do allow gender critical feminists to speak so not all bad.

In your opinion. The op doesn't think so. They like it.

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/07/2023 03:07

@Bellasignora I find your tinned tomatoes comparison a bit weird. I suppose if I was to go with your analogy it would be AIBU to think tinned tomatoes are not meat?

Is Newsnight news? Not really. It sort of discusses news issues. GB News is like that. It discusses issues that viewers like you enjoy listening to.

I'm glad you know you don't have to watch it but when I posted that, I hadn't realised that you actually enjoyed watching it. So my point turned out to be moot.

But I cross posted so I didn't know you enjoyed it until after I'd said I didn't think you enjoyed it. 😄 If you see what I mean.

It's not my sort of thing, really. But neither's football and there's tons of that on as well. So I just let people get on with enjoying whatever they like. Wouldn't do for us all to be the same. Happy viewing.

Newsnight and other shows are produced by journalists investigating news. GB News is more focused on the opinions of comedians and political has-beens than actual news and journalism.

I don't understand your problem with ex politicians. Ex politicians run organisations like the UN and NATO. Even for those that don't rise to those positions, and most don't, it doesn't mean they don't know anything about current political situations. Having served in Parliament somewhere, they probably have a better grasp of how govt works, etc, than you viewers. And aren't comedians allowed a view as well? I've seen lots of actors and comedians on Newsnight and Question Time.
I really don't understand you. You're watching the programme because you enjoy it. But if you don't like the format or presenters, what's to enjoy?you sound very mixed up.

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/07/2023 03:59

When I watch a comedy show, I know it's a comedy show. Even if politicians are on it. I totally get HIGNFY etc. It's the difference between the Last Leg or Loose Women and Peston or Newsnight.

I object to it being called a news channel. It's not.

OP posts:
SugarRaye · 14/07/2023 04:06

Surely if they're discussing current issues, and that can be anything that's in the news or is generally affecting the population, it is news related. If a bomb went off on Tower Bridge, they'd be discussing that. They discussed Philip Schofield. They discussed the banking issue of banks cancelling accounts, they discuss gender issues, sport, the Ukraine war... I don't even watch it, and I've seen this online.

HappilyContentTheseDays · 14/07/2023 04:07

I watch GBN because it discusses news items and current affairs. I don't always agree with the stance it takes, and I'm not keen on the comedians (they only appear in the newspaper review item, why does it take a couple of comedians to review the next day's headlines??) but the whole point of it is that the channel is a discussion channel.

I mostly watch it at night, when I want talk programmes. I don't want films or dramas or even news channels with features, I want discussion. In fact, the constant murmur of human voices (when turned low) is perfect for sending me off to sleep at night....and I suspect I'm not the only one who uses it for that purpose!

IIRC Andrew Neill was part of the original project. How come he left?
