To think that “because of covid” is now taking the piss?

24 hours before we are leaving for a stay in a holiday cottage, and this message has just popped up - “ because of the current situation with covid we are no longer providing bedding. Please bring your own pillows, duvets, linen and towels”.
This feels like a massive cop out now, and I’m really hacked off at having to sort it out at the last minute. I get that there are still plenty of covid cases around, but surely we’re done with this kind of measure?

A lot of hotels now don't offer housekeeping each day, you have to request it

A lot of changes made during covid have been kept up

Just pack some towels and bedding.

Changingplace · 10/07/2023 07:06

That’s utterly ridiculous and nothing to do with Covid now at all, I’d be asking for a discount of sone kind for the annoyance!

In which case they should have that info available at booking stage, not 24 hrs before you arrive.

StormShadow · 10/07/2023 07:08

It's up to them what policies they have, but I would expect to have been told about this more than 24 hours in advance. They've had three years of notice. It's a piss take.

ZenNudist · 10/07/2023 07:08

Did it say linens provided because I always check and ask about towels and teatowels

towriteyoumustlive · 10/07/2023 07:08

If it stated that sheets etc... were provided then I'd be asking for a discount!

Covid bollocks. Too lazy to change the sheets no doubt!

It's not really that simple to just pack bedding and towels though is it, if it includes perhaps a double duvet, two singles and 4 pillows. We've just been away and even in our large car there's no way that would have fitted with all put stuff. I agree OP that it's a rubbish excuse and it definitely should have been listed in the booking, not mentioned last minute. What if you'd not been coming from home?

Babsexxx · 10/07/2023 07:10

No I’d be livid to be bundling all my towels and bedding/sheets into the car aswell as luggage they should of clearly outlined this in the original ad.

Oblomov23 · 10/07/2023 07:10

That's just an excuse and a copp out. Plus such late notice of such a thing is not right.

StormShadow · 10/07/2023 07:11

Was it definitely not in the original booking info OP?

ASimpleLobsterHat · 10/07/2023 07:12

Sheets are one thing, but who has room in their car to take duvets and pillows for everyone?! I would be very hacked off at that as I wouldn't have booked it had I known. Is it through an agency? I would be calling this morning to try and get some sense out of them.

calmcoco · 10/07/2023 07:12

I'm not bothered by the COVID reason, if they have decided to take a measure on pretty much anything that's up to them, but the late notice is very inconvenient.

Fargoer · 10/07/2023 07:14

Everyone is mentioning space in the car but what if you are travelling by public transport? Carrying duvets and pillows will be a whole new challenge…

loudbatperson · 10/07/2023 07:14

If it was in the original booking information YABU. Although I would not book a property without these included.

If it was not in the original property information YANBU and I would expect a discount as they are not providing one of the listed services.

Meeting · 10/07/2023 07:14

That's really poor and I would mention it in my review online.

If it had been clearly stated at the time of booking, people would have had the choice to go elsewhere. It's sneaky and lazy, so many companies are still using COVID as an excuse for poor service.

Ndujauser · 10/07/2023 07:14

It’s through Airbnb, and it came through this morning when I went to look for the lockbox details (which still aren’t there!). I’m more hacked off that they didn’t put it on the original details than about the covid thing.

Agreed. I think it would put a lot of people off booking. I definitely wouldn't bother staying there if I had to take a car full of duvets and pillows with me.

YANBU OP, it's ridiculous to blame Covid and the lack of notice isn't acceptable.

Ndujauser · 10/07/2023 07:16

And yes, I wouldn’t have booked it if it had been in the original details.

ChubbyMorticia · 10/07/2023 07:17

I think a lot of things have changed because of Covid, and won’t be changing back. I’d be unhappy about the late notice, but not about a Covid restriction.

marniemae · 10/07/2023 07:17

Hopefully it will put more people off using air b and b

Teapleasebobb · 10/07/2023 07:17

Agree, it's bollocks and as a side note, customer service quality plummeted during covid but still hasn't recovered imo. Maybe we're now stuck with it.

JustAnotherUsey · 10/07/2023 07:19

Yeah I'd be super pissed off and be tempted to cancel if I could still get a refund. Have they left it to after the free cancellation deadline to email about bedding etc?

After the trip leave a stinking review and report to Airbnb. Their tactics are out of order.

Oysterbabe · 10/07/2023 07:19

Make sure you review and mention it. Completely ridiculous.

HurricanesHardlyEverHappen · 10/07/2023 07:20

That's absolutely ridiculous. I wouldn't have booked it either if they had said that in the listing. I can't believe they are saying it's because of covid or that they are just casually mentioning it now!
