To think that “because of covid” is now taking the piss?

24 hours before we are leaving for a stay in a holiday cottage, and this message has just popped up - “ because of the current situation with covid we are no longer providing bedding. Please bring your own pillows, duvets, linen and towels”.
This feels like a massive cop out now, and I’m really hacked off at having to sort it out at the last minute. I get that there are still plenty of covid cases around, but surely we’re done with this kind of measure?

I'd check the original booking and be looking to cancel. It isn't as simple as stripping beds into a suitcase. We travel by train. That's a double and 3 singles plus spares. Utterly ridiculous

I wouldn't want to cancel in case can't find anything else - but we'd be stuck if this happed to us as we travel by train as yes 5 lots of bedding not so easy to lug about.

It's bloody odd though a compliant and suddenly they can do bedding - but please OP mention it in review as it would be very useful information for next bookers.

Ridiculous.. we go abroad a good six times a year and all bedding provided and changed.. why should it be different in the UK? Washing gets rid of any germs.
Yes Covid is still about ( I'm on my 4th bout.. ) and it's horrific.
But l think that's a lazy excuse about the bedding

Contact them and ask them to clarify if (a) it’s a contemporary message and (b) what they mean specifically - duvets, pillows, duvet covers, bed sheets, tea towels, etc. If they come back and say that it’s a current requirement then I think you should point out the inconvenience and late notice and leave the ball in their court to respond. I think people asking for compensation after the receipt of one little message is OTT… give them the chance to fix/ameliorate the situation first. And have a nice holiday!

But what did it say on the listing?

They have a list of 'amenities' and bedding, towels, iron etc is listed (or not) on there

I insist on towels, bedding, linen and iron. They are my essentials

And we are here. The cottage is actually lovely. But THERE IS NO TEAPOT. Sod the sheets, this is a travesty.

Ridiculous. Imagine someone from another country rents that cottage. How exactly are they supposed to provide sheets and bedding. I'm m sure they're charging you handsomely too!

We stayed at a Haven at half term in a premier expensive caravan and there was no teapot. There was a dishwasher but no teapot!! I was slightly erked. I know it’s not a cottage but it’s something I’d normally expect. They did provide all bedding and towels though.

This stipulation would make a holiday very undesirable for me and wouldn't go if i knew beforehand. Very unreasonable to mention this with 24hrs notice.

I see that as a good excuse to buy a new teapot so but a massive travesty for me… 😝
I would message hosts & ask them if they have one available for use if you don’t want to buy one.

We usually end up using a cafetière or a drip through coffee pot as a teapot substitute in holiday cottages (particularly abroad where there's no hope of a teapot).

by teapot do you mean kettle? who uses a teapot these days? never used one myself I couldn't do without a kettle though.

😂 No worries! If it helps I have a kettle and not a teapot, but I like loose leaf so I have a manual compressor (like for coffee) and it’s ace! Funnily enough I read their teapot for kettle too. Surely no one expects a teapot?!

I provide one. With tea cups and saucers too. Plus a sugar bowl and milk jug. Some of us provide high quality facilities!!

A lot of hotels worldwide are doing 3pm or even 4pm check it's and 10am checkouts "cause covid"

Yeah that is a cop out and you should be discounted for supplying your own
