Being filmed by another diner in a fancy restaurant

Here is the scenario.
I went to a very fancy restaurant this week.
A couple at the next table were very keen on filming every move they made on their phones, fine.
Next thing… they whip it out a tripod in the restaurant and place their phone to film themselves enjoying their meal.
The camera is also pointing at me.

They take the camera and I can see that I am also (unnecessarily captured) by the angle they were shooting.
They proceeded to do this 3 times, for a couple of minutes at a time.

WWYD in this situation?

A. Say nothing?
B. Ask couple to stop?
C. complain to fancy restaurant staff?

I did one of the 3, but am genuinely torn about what the best thing to do in this rather bizarre situation that made me quite uncomfortable.

I will share what happened next once I gauge opinions.

If you find itonline You ask the host company to remove it.

Lollipop81 · 06/07/2023 10:10

I would have asked them to move the camera so it wasn’t on you 🤷‍♀️

Diva66 · 06/07/2023 17:51

I would have pulled silly faces and laughed at them. I am petty and childish.

Tessabelle74 · 06/07/2023 18:05

I'd have pulled ridiculous faces to ruin their video, but I'm a passive aggressive bitch 🤣

User27107066 · 06/07/2023 18:20

I think I know where this happened……

Densol57 · 06/07/2023 18:34

A
I really wouldnt care or spend half the night complaining. People film things everywhere - who cares ?!

Hmm1234 · 06/07/2023 18:39

You’re in a public space and hardly celebrities lol

RecklessGoddess · 06/07/2023 18:46

I would have done C, it's a "fancy" restaurant and they should be made aware of any discomfort a diner has, caused by another diner.

They must have been ‘influencers’. How annoying!

The only thing any influencer can convince me about is that they are dickheads. My neighbour is one and she is certainly a dickhead.

RecklessGoddess · 06/07/2023 18:49

I hope you are going to make a complaint to the owners, that was poor management, and you had actually seen yourself on their video footage too. The manager just took their a swat face value, when anyone in that situation is going to lie about it!

azlazee1 · 06/07/2023 18:57

C. It is intrusive and annoying at best. I would let the restaurant handle it.

strawberry2017 · 06/07/2023 19:03

I would have asked to move tables

truthhurts23 · 06/07/2023 19:20

I would do B , if they don’t stop C

Jeannie88 · 06/07/2023 20:02

D run around table pretending to be a penguin

Then...

E accidentally knock tripod over, accidentally stand heavily on camera/phone (maybe not that bit but pretence could have same effect)

F Get your phone out, stand next to them, nudging into their space, to record your companion having dinner.

Santina · 06/07/2023 20:16

If the restaurant is on tradvisor, leave some feedback. Make it constructive though so the manager can learn from the incident. Most reputable places don't like to be publicly shamed.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 06/07/2023 20:20

I’d do A
DH defo B
C seems almost more gutless than A to me.

The world has gone fucking mental.

VestaTilley · 06/07/2023 23:29

Complain of course! What a pair of knobheads. Honestly, I despair of modern life.

ConfusingTrousers · 07/07/2023 00:29

If you have anything you want to advertise, you write it on a napkin and hold it up. If you have nothing to sell but your labour, obviously you draw a hammer and sickle and hold that up. And if neither of these feels appropriate you write an increasingly offensive commentary on their relationship on a series of napkins. You're welcome.

Ginburee · 07/07/2023 00:30

We very rarely go out as children are still young.
When we do we spend good money, I would absolutely not put up with influencer filming and would go menopausal Karen to complain.

Fraaahnces · 07/07/2023 03:45

Or write “I do not consent to being filmed by these crass twats” on the napkin.

Shudahaddogs · 07/07/2023 08:29

Do you realise how many times you were filmed on the way to the restaurant? Cctv, dash cams? Your expectation of privacy in public is worry.

ensayers · 07/07/2023 09:50

A tripod could also be 3" tall and just sit on the table for selfies. Doesn't necessarily mean that it's a 5 foot high tripod that you see photographers using on the news outside downing Street haha

Frabbits · 07/07/2023 10:32

They had a fucking tripod?

I would have expected any decent restaurant to put that shit away immediately. Fair enough take a few videos if you really must (although, don't, because it's a stupid thing to do) but once you start doing annoying shit like that you can get in the bin.
