Being filmed by another diner in a fancy restaurant

Here is the scenario.
I went to a very fancy restaurant this week.
A couple at the next table were very keen on filming every move they made on their phones, fine.
Next thing… they whip it out a tripod in the restaurant and place their phone to film themselves enjoying their meal.
The camera is also pointing at me.

They take the camera and I can see that I am also (unnecessarily captured) by the angle they were shooting.
They proceeded to do this 3 times, for a couple of minutes at a time.

WWYD in this situation?

A. Say nothing?
B. Ask couple to stop?
C. complain to fancy restaurant staff?

I did one of the 3, but am genuinely torn about what the best thing to do in this rather bizarre situation that made me quite uncomfortable.

I will share what happened next once I gauge opinions.

The people were wrong to be so insensitive and the Manager stupid and incompetant.

Having said that, a restaurant is a semi public place, one doesn't have the right to privacy.

Once, I was told off inside National Trust property by Lady, who thought she would be in background of some shots.
I advised her it was public space and N.T. now allow interior photography. If she wasn't happy she should move round faster, or slower than me.

I could of said, as she wasn't attractive, or as far as I know famous, I would delete any photos where she may be prominent.
I was using a proper, semi pro camera, which may have spooked her, especially if she was off sick, or with somebody else's husband!

It's highly likely those people would have edited the footage to exclude excessive coverage of others, assuming of course you're not notable.

Hilarious idea ! made me flash back to the diner scene in the film Dumb and Dumber when the salt pot got thrown - laughed out load thanks 🌻

PM me!

Was it Le Manoir OP? You do need a small fortune to stay for the weekend 😂

I'd have probably done B and ended up on YouTube or CheezBurger or Bored Panda under a video titled something like 'entitled Karen wants some privacy, it backfires'. You know the kind that's designed to silence women d'un age certain.

Free champagne though, a tiny win. Sorry they ruined the ambience for your lovely treat. People are utterly clueless and classless these days. Manners seem practically dead.

I'm with Alan Partridge. I hate the general public.

It's an invasion of your privacy to film without asking your prior permission. I would have asked them, politely, to limit their filming to themselves.

Ok, so here it goes.
I took option C and spoke to my very nice waiter to express that I was uncomfortable.
He was kind of giggling at them as he found it strange himself. He told he he would speak to his manager. I thanked him.

Manager walks up to the couple and asks them if they could
stop filming as I am uncomfortable at the next table and asked them if I was on any of the footage. They assured her I wasn’t.

Then the manager walks over to our table and says loudly, don’t worry you were not included on the footage.

(I saw myself as they checked the footage before the complaint so that wasn’t true)

I was actually mortified.

This was a very fancy reputable restaurant. The manager was a total idiot.

She was as discreet as a kick in the face.

Why did she have to be discreet? Why didn't you ask to move tables if you were uncomfortable? Personally, I'd have spoken to the table myself.

I’d have probably resorted to writing rude messages on napkins and holding them up on film.
