To wonder if Labour actually will be any better?

Baabaagreysheep · 30/06/2023 13:35

I think like most people I am keen to see the back of the current bunch, but I am not confident that anything will massively change for the better. Maybe that’s a bit pessimistic, but I feel that while some things will improve some will get worse - and some sort of at the same time, so I’m expecting my salary to go up but also my workload to go up!

Thinking back to when Labour were last in power it was another world, really. Interested in views.

He is certainly pompous. And Angela Rayner is awful

They are all awful. I hate politics!

You people never get less sneery, do you? Yet still you wonder why the people you insult don’t want to listen to you.
Daft stuff.

And calling Keir Starmer fat, stupid and pompous isn't sneary at all.

I agree with you though. It's a shame we can't have a constructive conversation.

Honestly, where have all these people come from who support this current party who have repeatedly lied and been found out, broken their own rules, sent covid infected people into nursing homes, lined the pockets of their chums and benefactors with money during the pandemic, failed to prepare for a pandemic, snogged their mistresses up against the wall in their offices during lockdown, failed to get any grip on immigration, trashed the economy, enable shareholders and the ultra rich to profit at the expense of the ordinary person in the street, failed to build housing, wasted billions on PPE, voted to allow sewage to be poured into our waterways and the sea, allowed food banks to become the norm, repeatedly failed to address animal rights issues, lied to The Queen, allowed trophy hunting to continue, failed to ever properly address the Russia report, allowed child poverty to grow to such an extent.......and on and on and on.

13 years of this.
What sort of person do you have to be to excuse this?

Most of these are just re-treads of what Labour got up to under Blair and Brown. Not covid, granted, because we have no idea how well Labour would have done in the circumstances. They're mostly just a list of things that any government goes through.

But the idea of the Tories having trashed the economy is truly laughable after Brown. If you take out the economic shrinkage after we had to pay for quantitative easing (not Brown's fault except that he and Bair overspent for years) and the inevitable cost of covid there's not a lot of decision-making room left. (I leave out Brexit - which I opposed - because any costs of that will be very long term.)

Hopeless.

Never was a truer word said about Labour and the fantasist labour party 👏

Mercurial123 · 30/06/2023 16:14

His background is incredibly narrow, his grasp of economics incredibly weak, and yes, he is fat.

And that, is a very good description of the former disgraced PM BoJo...

All politicians are pretty much the same. Things might get a bit better under Labour, and they are pretty much certain to win the next general election, but they don't have a magic wand or any resources that the Tories don't also have access to.

A moral compass? The Tories certainly seem to have mislaid theirs.

And who funds the Welsh assembly?

The Senedd and Wels Government are funded from three sources - money allocated by the UK Government according to a set formula, money raised in Wales by means of taxation and other charges and borrowing

The Welsh Government, Labour for the whole 22 years of its existence, decides how to spend its money.

Taking 2019/20, so before the unusual increase in spending due to Covid, Wales spent £2910 per head on health care, compared with £2776 per head in England.

And yet in A&E waits, ambulance response times and waiting times for planned treatment, Wales does even worse than England.

BunnyBetChetwynd · 30/06/2023 16:21

Going to sign out in a moment as this thread seems a bit futile. Before I go I jist wanted to say that I won't be voting Labour at the next election. I would love to vote Labour as I genuinely believe they will be better for the ordinary folk of this country than the Tories who have visited havoc and decline on us over the last 13 years. Labour wouldn't be perfect, but they can not be worse overall than what we have.

I'm middle aged, middle income, working class and have lived through every party since the sixties and I have never seen a worse time than now and never seen a more optimistic time than the New Labour years.

People might not agree. This is only my opinion. I fear for the country if we have another four years of this government. Where will we, the economy, education, health, the environment be? I see no room for optimism.

So back to why I won't vote Labour. It's because they can't win in my constituency given the make up of the population here. I will vote for anyone who will out the current Tory incumbent. It makes me sad, but anything but Tory.

I'm so sorry this thread has descended into insult and bitching. It's not productive and nobody benefits.

grass321 · 30/06/2023 16:26

I'm a Conservative voter but I quite like Keir Starmer. I think he's a decent man who struggles to keep the union paymasters happy and, like the Conservatives, presides over a divided party. Can't stand Angela Rayner. I like feisty people but she's just gobby and crass for the sake of it.

I genuinely don't believe Labour will be any better but I think they'll tax the middle class until they feel even worse off. Some of the macroeconomic and geopolitical problems are way beyond party politics, and the pandemic/war in Ukraine has hit most of the G7 economies.

There are plenty of examples obviously you don't follow her much or is this acceptable behaviour of members of parliament? May be as a labour support you do who knows 🤔

As always with the left, it’s ok when they do it. See also sending children to private school, covering up inconvenient facts, and racism.

caringcarer · 30/06/2023 16:36

I worry things could get even worse whoever is in. Inflation is running wild and I blame BoE for that as they refused to put mortgages up sooner and kept printing money. They must have known that would ramp up inflation. Everyone and their dog wants 10 percent pay rises. Mortgages are going up so anyone coming out of a 5 year fix will feel the pain when they come to remortgage. So many sectors are going on strike like ambulance drivers, nurses, junior doctors and now teachers. I don't know what the answer is but I don't believe any of the politicians can fix it in 5 years. I'm sick to death of Richi Sunak. I don't think Starlmer or Davy know what women are or are not prepared to tell transwomen actually they are still biologically men. Children are being allowed at school to identify as cats and goodness knows what else. Just Stop Oil are going around trying to ruin our sporting events when if they really cared about our environment they'd be out litter picking or planting trees. Immigration has gone through the roof in too short a time so there are not enough school places, GP spaces, let alone houses for all of the refugees. There is a space for a new normal party who have common sense and want to govern for the people of the UK. I despair and won't vote for any of the politicians we currently have. Rotten to the core the lot of them. Rant over.

Eckyftang · 30/06/2023 16:37

Those saying it can't get any worse are naive beyond belief. Winter of discontent???

It can get worse, much much worse. Hopefully this thread will be a reminder to the hand wringers when labour get in. YOU voted for this.

caringcarer · 30/06/2023 16:39

@Sweetashunni, I hear you and you are not wrong.

caringcarer · 30/06/2023 16:44

Fightyouforthatpie · 30/06/2023 14:29

We really don't. It's a myth they perpetuate to keep us in check - let the ones who care so little for the UK fuck off and try somewhere else.

If all the megarich business people left the UK tomorrow it would leave a gaping hole in our taxes. The ones left won't be paying enough taxes to cover NHS, pensions and benefits. The country would collapse.

stbrandonsboat · 30/06/2023 16:44

They're both awful. Just in different ways.

LakieLady · 30/06/2023 16:48

JudgeJ · 30/06/2023 15:17

Actual experience of hard left Labour in government tells me no, they won't, they never have been.

When did we ever have a hard left Labour government? I can remember every government since Wilson was elected in 1964, and I can't remember one, so you must mean Macdonald or Attlee.

I suppose Attlee was pretty far left, getting Nye Bevan to set up a health service that provided comprehensive free health care for all, building all those council houses and introducing a welfare benefit system for those who fall on hard times, but not hard left in the doctrinaire sense.

We could do with an Attlee and a Bevan now imo. Sadly, the nearest we've got is Starmer and Streeting.
