To wonder if Labour actually will be any better?

Baabaagreysheep · 30/06/2023 13:35

I think like most people I am keen to see the back of the current bunch, but I am not confident that anything will massively change for the better. Maybe that’s a bit pessimistic, but I feel that while some things will improve some will get worse - and some sort of at the same time, so I’m expecting my salary to go up but also my workload to go up!

Thinking back to when Labour were last in power it was another world, really. Interested in views.

On the contrary, reality involves balancing many priorities against many needs. Reducing your options by sticking rigidly to a single issue is a luxury at the expense of everything else.

I'm not handing in my truth and reality card. It's a principle.

Good on you, weird people try to undermine that but there you go

FourTeaFallOut · 03/07/2023 09:07

And I won't vote for a party led by anti-science Mordaunt either.

you would vote for a party who believed the earth was flat, as long as you were happy with the rest of their policies?

Yup. Particularly if the policies of the alternative were abhorrent.

It just proves that once you convince people to agree with a nonsense they will swallow any old shit. What are your principles Blossomtoes, how far down the rabbit hole would you fall until you were prepared to give up the approval of your current political mates?

Dotandtime · 03/07/2023 09:45

I really don't understand the argument that the Tories can be the only party for women. They've been in power for 13 years. The whole self ID thing happened on their watch and they have an awful record of misogyny in every practical aspect. They just know how to say what you want to hear. Look at their actions, not their words.

Like @Blossomtoes pointed out, it very much depends on who’s standing in opposition. Flat earthers with otherwise good policies vs moon landing deniers with god awful policies, then yes, absolutely I will go with the flat earthers.

I won’t ignore actual reality to appease my own need to satisfy myself. The worlds problems aren’t all going to be solved with one moment in time putting a cross in a ballot box and it doesn’t mean that I have to support or condone any flat earth related policies that emerge.

How many principles would you ignore at the expense of just one?

FourTeaFallOut · 03/07/2023 10:10

On the question of material reality and my refusal to defer to a faith based belief systems and the dealing of dissenters as heretics, all of them.

It's not transphobic to be concerned about women's safety btw. Even if you don't care about women's rights, there are plenty of women who do...

One here 🙋🏼‍♀️

Single vote issue for me. TW are not women.

And before anyone comes for me, I can vote how I want. I don’t have to think about what someone else considers is the ‘greater good’. That’s the beauty of democracy.

Totally agree. This idea that posters demand women / others vote as they do. No thanks.

Not until they get the extreme left identity politics people back in their box. They are going to be the equivalent of the Tory Euroskeptics in the level of destruction they are capable of causing to UK politics. Post truth BS that even moderate Labour Party ideologues have taken on board.

I agree with this. The disgraceful way that Mark Drakeford spoke to Laura Anne Jones in the Welsh Parliament. I won’t vote for a party that has this at its core. I am at a loss as to how I will vote tbh.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/07/2023 10:20

Not just demand that women vote as they do but actually gleeful at the prospect of swathes of women being entirely disenfranchised by the main political parties when they hold a principle about the entirely unremarkable but fundamental truth about the material reality of their sex.

No it wouldn’t. I don’t imagine anyone supports and/or condones all the policies of the party they vote for. But I’m certainly not going to vote for a party with 90% of abhorrent policies if there’s an alternative with 5% of policies I find abhorrent. It’s single issue voters that got us this shambolic bunch of charlatans in 2019.

But it’s not true (back to reality) and precisely the reason single issue voting is daft. Using the current situation I would have to presume anyone either voting Tory or abstaining completely was condoning current management policies of the economy, environment, education, healthcare, immigration etc.

I don’t believe that’s true, or maybe hope that’s not true 🤷‍♀️

FourTeaFallOut · 03/07/2023 10:33

I guess you are either the type of person who thinks reality is a single issue, or you are not.

Who’s demanding? It’s a discussion you’ve willingly added to with your views and have had them questioned. Thats not ‘demanding’ anything.

Exactly. And, while I might be exasperated by such tunnel vision, I’m not particularly perturbed because there’s such a tiny minority of such voters spread over so many constituencies they won’t make an iota of difference.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/07/2023 10:39

The earth is flat so no more trading with America because we could never make it through the ice wall without bending our faithful truth.

No chance.

On the demand aspect a few posters have said the same so 🤷‍♂️

It’s irritating but nothing new.
