To wonder if Labour actually will be any better?

I think like most people I am keen to see the back of the current bunch, but I am not confident that anything will massively change for the better. Maybe that’s a bit pessimistic, but I feel that while some things will improve some will get worse - and some sort of at the same time, so I’m expecting my salary to go up but also my workload to go up!

Thinking back to when Labour were last in power it was another world, really. Interested in views.

There's only room for a small number of people on top of the critical thinking bell curve. That's why human societies constantly make the same mistakes / poor decisions over and over again.

Indeed. And you’d think with the massive pain single issue voters inflicted on us in 2019 the lesson would have been learnt. Yet, here we are.

It’ll crop up over time. More will ask why am I seeing these words and this image

It happens already. But a flawed ideology underpinning politics will mean it happens more.

I’ve not really noticed it, happy to believe you though I am cautious that perceptions of aggression and demands differ wildly through text.

I’m also conscious that accusations of aggression/unreasonable demands often surface when the speaker/writer feels they have no where else to comfortably go with their viewpoint. If, for instance, the fruition of a viewpoint is likely to result in negative consequences for certain groups of people then people are less likely to make their peace with that and publicly say that.

Can you be explicit, I’m not sure what you are referring to

I don’t think this is the case at all, but maybe if you clarify I can say why not

So we’re now reverting to the ludicrous “they’re all the same”. In which case where does that leave the single issue? Critical thinking is definitely in very short supply.

Not really, I was making generalised observations of others and myself after many years on forums Grin

It wasn’t a comment on anyone specific , more an observation about why perhaps others don’t necessarily see what they’re seeing.

I'm not handing in my truth and reality card. It's a principle.

Along with 'free speech'. The most important aspect of a democracy,

At the next GE, people have a sad choice of voting for the least bad of two very poor political parties and very poor leaders. I can't believe how things have got so bad!

Just look at Scotland and Wales - they're obsessed with being different rather than being better. As clearly seen during covid when they (and Andy Burnham in Manchester) were too busy playing politics and being "different" to the Tories which meant some things they did were worse, but that was "OK" because they were different, just for the sake of being different and not wanting to be seen as agreeing with Boris/Tories - just playing politics.

I've always voted for one or the other, depending solely upon the local candidates, i.e. whether they've any real local interest or not, their local policies, etc. So, roughly, I've probably voted 50:50 other the years between one or the other. I can't bring myself to vote for either party at the moment, however good their local candidate may be, as I can't vote for Sunak and can't vote for Starmer - I despise them both and despise what they stand for. I'll be voting the best of the local independents - I know full well that won't influence the next Parliament, but I don't want to contribute to either Sunak nor Starmer becoming PM as if I vote for either of their parties, I'm implicitly agreeing with them, which I don't! Voting for an independent is better than spoiling my paper or not voting at all - at least it gives some kind of sign to the main parties, even better if lots of others do it!

FourTeaFallOut · 03/07/2023 11:18

Reality. Truth. Freedom from compelled speech. Safeguarding. All just a single issue, apparently.

Ok. I don’t agree that there’s some kind of end point where I feel I can’t comfortably go

I’m fine with holding GC pro women views and if people want to ask directly where I see it going I’ll answer.

I don’t feel I’m not saying anything publicly etc but did talk about the demanding part hence my reply

If you want denial of reality look right there. We’re in the end days of the most corrupt, dishonest, greedy and incompetent government of my life time and “there’s little to choose between them”? I absolutely bloody despair.

Badbadbunny · 03/07/2023 11:27

The only thing that would make me euphoric on the day after the next GE would be the odious little cretin, Sunak losing his "safe" constituency. That really would be ground breaking history. I hope the other parties don't just give up and roll over in his constituency and put up strong contenders and a strong campaign. History shows that "safe" seats can be lost. He's just a puppet, was "parachuted" into a safe seat from nowhere, then parachuted into being a Chancellor with no track record, and then parachuted into the leader position without holding mandate from their membership. Someone in the background is pulling strings and it shouldn't be allowed to happen.

Are people really that naive to think that when Labour get into power, a magic switch happens, and it will all be sunshine and rainbows!

This austerity is here to stay for a long long time, the Covid 'bill' has to be paid, and our childrens children will still be paying off the tab.

Yes, it will be a different colour and name above the door, but they are all the same in reality. Red, yellow or purple, they are all self serving snouts dis-connected fools.

People can't wait to celebrate the change from Blue to Red, it is acutally quite sad, as nothing will change.

If it did Wales would be more rainbows and sunshine

It looks concerning as a direction to go to me

That kind of defeatist thinking is completely pointless. There’s really no point in engaging in politics if that’s what you really think. Of course I don’t believe in fairies and think the world will morph from monochrome to technicolour with a Labour victory - although for me it kind of did in 1997. Despite being about to embark on my eighth decade I believe the world can be a much fairer, more compassionate and brighter place than it is now and I want to see that.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/07/2023 11:41

But you would believe in fairies, were it expedient to do so, right?
