Sports club keeps using my address

Help! There's a sport club near my house, they have a building in an field nearby and I guess my house is the closest to it.

They keep using my address for all their deliveries and pick ups to the point now where I'm getting delivery people knocking on my door every morning sometimes twice a day and it's becoming really invasive and stressful because it's constantly disturbing my day, quite often they come early and wake me up, or hammer on the door while I'm in a meeting, and when I explain that I'm not the sports club and they've used my address without my permission, they argue with me as if I'm wrong! Then insist on showing me the order with my address on it as if that'll somehow convince me I'm not standing in my own home. It never used to be this bad and I used to try and be helpful when I first moved in but after accepting a parcel for them they turned up and we're immensely rude and I decided screw that I've just done them a favour for no reason. So I don't accept parcels, I don't even redirect the drivers any more in hope that it would deter the club from using my address but they still do it.

I know it's not the fault of the delivery person but I am slowly losing my patience with it. We've told the club to stop I've also contacted the delivery company to tell them to stop but it makes no difference. I don't know what else to do 😫 hellpp!

The club needs to add something like a What3Words direction onto their deliveries.

Put a sign on your door/gate saying not Sports Club.

FeelingwearyFeeelingsmall · 28/06/2023 09:31

Either don't answer the door or explain once and then close the door.

If the delivery men leave the the stuff in your drive the sports club will have the hassle of collecting it. If they take it away the sports club will have the hassle of reordering.

IncompleteSenten · 28/06/2023 09:32

That's bloody awful.
Best bet is carry on what you're doing and refuse parcels. Eventually they'll surely get sick of it!
Does the sports club have public meetings? Maybe you could attend one. Or do they have FB and could you write something there?

I'd find out who was the primary contact for the club and write to them, recorded delivery, and tell them they are not to use your address and any more parcels sent to your address you will consider gifts from them and will keep them.

But I'm a cow and don't give a shit. I do recognise that most people are more reasonable than me so probably wouldn't want to annoy them. 😁

Thelnebriati · 28/06/2023 09:33

No thats not how it works; you have to refuse delivery or else you can be accused of theft.

SallySunrise · 28/06/2023 09:34

Does the sports club have social media pages? I'd be all over each page every single time.

TeddySunflowers · 28/06/2023 09:38

To answer a few questions, a sign is a good idea, I'll try that. Not answering the door is an option but then I might miss my own post. It's a private members only thing and everyone I know who's interacted with them has found them to be really really unpleasant people - the worst rich entitled sports stereotype unfortunately. Might try social media pages but I feel like I'd get swarmed quite quickly. I've written to the president of the club before and got a really shitty email back with lots of snarky comments like 'sorry you feel the need to complain'. 🙄 Obviously I do feel the need to complain!! Grr!

Put a sign up on your gate and your door saying this is not sports club and you will not accept any deliveries for them. Then every time simply say no, this is not the sports club, they’ve given you the wrong address and I’m refusing delivery. Then shut the door. Eventually they will stop!

dawnc27 · 28/06/2023 09:42

id put it in writing to the sports club that any further parcels delivered to your house you will assume are a gift and will keep them. it would only take 1 or 2 until they stopped doing it i reckon

sayanythingelse · 28/06/2023 09:48

Can you refuse delivery and advise the driver that it needs to be returned to sender? It doesn't stop the problem of delivery drivers knocking on your door but the club might take notice when their parcels keep getting returned.

BiscuitsandPuffin · 28/06/2023 09:50

Yeah unless you're expecting something, don't answer the door. Don't argue with delivery drivers, just don't engage with them at all. If parcels get delivered to your drive/garden, just leave them there. If anyone comes to the door asking for these parcels tell them (because it will be true) you haven't seen any. Be as obstructive as you can while staying on the right side of the law. Once enough of their parcels get left out to the elements or go missing they'll stop.

Also worth checking where they're registered on companies house and getting your address removed from there if necessary: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/report-a-company-using-your-personal-details-without-your-permission

@sayanythingelse honestly I've sent back so many parcels and it's made no difference. I thought they'd get fed up and stop using my address. I guess the delivery drivers must be calling them after I turn them away and they eventually get to where they're meant to be. Wish there was some sort of regulatory body that could stop stuff like this as it does feel a bit like we're being harassed.

@BiscuitsandPuffin thank you for this! that's super helpful!

I'd just ignore them completely don't even answer the door for a few weeks and see what happens. (Don't order anything online during the period). Is it always the same delivery company? You could put a compakint in writing to them too.

I've no idea if it's possible, but maybe send a cease and desist type letter, citing harassment. Have you tried speaking with the CAB, or even a solicitor?

HotWithNoRain · 28/06/2023 10:00

What happens if you keep the parcels? Would that give you an opportunity to make you point more clearly when someone comes to collect them.

MrsMarzetti · 28/06/2023 10:01

Your credit score maybe affected if they are using your address, report them before you have final demands coming through the door.

TeddySunflowers · 28/06/2023 10:17

Oh my god I've actually gone on the clubs website and my address is displayed on their 'contact us' and a map and pin is on my house! WTF!!!

Catspyjamas17 · 28/06/2023 10:18

Firstly I'd write a formal letter to the club president advising them they have 14 days to change the delivery arrangements, giving a date. If the deliveries don't stop then you will return all parcels to sender from then on. I would also let anyone know from the club collecting the parcels that I was unhappy with the arrangement, in no uncertain terms!

That’s nuts!!! Have you been in to speak to them in person?

Catspyjamas17 · 28/06/2023 10:24

Once some posh twat was using my email address, thinking it was his. I knew he was some posh twat as I got all kinds of email for him for about five years and found out by accident all sorts of information, and in spite of correcting those individuals and organisations it continued. He wouldn't have actually been able to read any emails or get into the account as he didn't know the password, and I didn't know what his actual email address was. It was very bizarre but eventually it stopped.

44PumpLane · 28/06/2023 10:31

Would this not qualify as something to talk to the police non emergency number about? It's essentially fraud isn't it?

They are fraudulently using your address and claiming it as their own. Surely, if they are a building, they have their own address!

Thelnebriati · 28/06/2023 09:33

No thats not how it works; you have to refuse delivery or else you can be accused of theft.

You can be accused of anything by anyone.
Good luck to whoever it is to prove "intent to permanently deprive" based on what we know.

I was going to say the same thing. If they are addressing the parcels to your home and not using their own address then they must be gifts for you.

They definitely do have their own address, we dont even have the same postcode and you cant even see the building from my house! I've reported them to Action Fraud so hopefully that will at the very least get them to stop using my address and displaying it publicly! I'm so wound up now I've seen that, I hope no one tries to deliver again today because I'm going to want to bite their head off!
