Neighbours windchime

It’s massive. It’s not even next door to me but the next one accross, terraced houses. It’s so loud. Luckily can’t hear it in the house but sat in garden and the slight bit of breeze and it’s all I can hear. Why?!?! Why have them in your garden?! They annoy other people! Tempted to have a fire in the garden tonight but really don’t want to upset my other nice neighbors. I just don’t get it. It’s so loud and so annoying!

The sound of that bloody windchime made me want to stick needles in my eyes it put my teeth on edge so much

I loved my friend fir taking it down so the DC next door would hopefully no longer have night mares

flimsywhimsy · 15/06/2023 15:10

I'm glad I live isolated enough that I can have my windchimes without fearing that someone is secretly hating me for them!

I can appreciate that the high-pitched, tinkly ones might be annoying, but the nicer ones with lower pitches and melodic tuning are beautiful, imo. Certainly preferable to barking dogs, screaming children, or the neighbour's loud music.

DiscoBeat · 15/06/2023 15:10

My neighbours, who have 3 children and a lot of friends/family over all the time, all yelling and splashing and going up and down on scooters all evening - have now decided to get a caged bird. It never stops chirping and has some sort of squeaky toy.
That's cruel too. What is it with single birds jailed in cages. They're meant to fly in a flock.

Because other people like the sound of wind chimes? Get some earplugs if you’re bothered, it’s hardly the same as blasting out thudding music.

Strange way round of thinking about it. Traditionally, you would consider the effects on neighbours of imposing an unnecessary noise on them and realise that not everyone would want to hear it and it’s pretty selfish to subject others to it.

Because he’s a drug dealer and looks a bit scary… 👀

@Daisydu

if you know that FOR SURE, then report the drug dealing. Scum need removing from the planet residential neighbourhoods.

Tilllly · 15/06/2023 15:11

Bloody hate them

NDN has one and I'd like to ask her to take it down but she's so lovely and she'd be upset

Sigh

DiscoBeat · 15/06/2023 15:11

Without a word she just took it down because she wasn't attached to it and because her bedroom was at the front it didn't keep her up at night
I do think most people would take them down if asked nicely. I'm wondering how many seething people on here have tried.

MysteryBelle · 15/06/2023 15:11

I think it’s a disturbance of the peace.

AdobeWanKenobi · 15/06/2023 13:23

He's not the only neighbour. It's a residential area and next door to him the other side are an elderly couple, both with breathing issues who also have to run around shutting windows and can't use their garden because he's out poking a random fire again.

Thats antisocial and stops people from sitting in gardens. Wind chimes I can take or leave.

@@AdobeWanKenobi is he biding by the by laws?

if he's not I'd report him to the Environmental
offucer on behalf of the elderly neighbours.

DiscoBeat · 15/06/2023 15:14

Superglue all the poles together.

LisaD1 · 15/06/2023 14:55

I love my wind chimes, they help me cope with the neighbours whiny brats one side and the kid with a drum kit the other side.

Well you’re not being unreasonable based on the drum kit. That would piss me off also

Yes I know for sure. But he’s well known to the police for it so I doubt anything would be done

"these windchimes are so annoying by the way can I light a huge FIRE in my garden thats ok right?"

have you actually, truly, heard yourself?

She can't hear over the noise of the wind chime.

Themsthebrakes · 15/06/2023 15:49

Could somebody recommend a really LOUD windchime by any chance?

Themsthebrakes · 15/06/2023 15:53

For the garden, i should add. The ones with wooden elements do not last long outside

He is not. This is a smokeless zone.
I did report last summer after becoming fed up with having to shut every window whilst he stood swigging his beer and prodding.
So far we’ve only has two instances this year so I’m tentatively hoping he got the message.

@AdobeWanKenobi if he's just burning shit (not a BBQ) I'd report him every bloody time. It's not a necessity & if you're in a smokeless zone.... 🤷🏻‍♀️

wishing you a smokeless summer!!

I love a good bonfire but I’m not gonna have one for the sake of my neighbours. It’s not hard to be considerate is it

I’ve done the British thing of gritting my teeth until last year when it was miserable and I reached the end of my rope with it. None of the neighbours surrounding can enjoy their gardens (his house backs on to a few as well as two immediate neighbours).
It’s literally scrap wood he stands poking. Every time someone on Facebook offers a cut down tree or a pallet he comments on the post and my heart sinks. They have a wood burner which ironically causes us no issues at all, but when he gets given this wood he chops it, piles it behind the house and then burns it in a barrel in summer and the wood burner in winter.

This last couple of weeks being able to open the windows and enjoy the garden has been lovely so long May it last!

stbrandonsboat · 15/06/2023 23:12

Ooo, I love wind chimes, they're so zen 😁

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 15/06/2023 23:38

The first time they blocked her drive she walked straight up their front paths and cut the wind chimes down with gardening shears.

Ordinary scissors would have done the job perfectly well, but the use of garden shears definitely adds a classic touch of justified panache!

It's the sheer relentlessness of the doom bells that is so monumentally unreasonable - if they wanted to put them up and play with them for half an hour, fair enough; but just leaving them up forever is horrifically selfish. Just like taking an hour to mow your lawn or trim your hedge is absolutely normal and unproblematic, but if you just left your lawn mower or hedge trimmers on 24/7, with no hope of it ever stopping, you'd hardly be voted neighbour of the month.

WonderfulUsername · 15/06/2023 23:42

YANBU

I stayed in a caravan once and the empty caravan in front had wind chimes hanging from it.

I ended up grabbing a roll of parcel tape and wrapping the fuck out of it at 4am.

SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors · 16/06/2023 00:16

DP gave me a wind chime Christmas before last. I loved it but took it down after reading a thread on here... sorry neighbours!

MysteryBelle · 16/06/2023 00:20

I’ve noticed that whenever I’m given a wind chime, or when others are gifted a wind chime, the givers are never close neighbors. I wonder why that is 😄
