I'm so angry. I get that people want to have equal rights but this is not equality. It is the eradication of the rights of "women" in order to appease the minority.

people (normally women) have been saying for years that this would be where we’d end up. That women were being erased. That the trans movement is very much about centering men. And we were told we were overreacting. Yet here we are.

I firmly believe the trans movement for the majority is not actually about being trans, it’s a bunch of misogynistic creeps putting women down and having a power trip.

Non-binary is just a load of narcissistic nonsense created as a consequence of insisting that fantasy is more important than reality. You are just a human being, like everyone else

Insisting that people accept self-identification of gender, rather than sex, as the defining characteristic by which they must be known, is requiring the same sort of suspension of disbelief that is required when you listen to Boris Johnson or Donald Trump. It doesn’t matter that everyone knows in reality that they are liars, it only matters that they say they believe they are telling the truth.

So I went and looked at the glossary and can’t see how those screen shot definitions have been taken out of context. It’s quite clear.

My anger about this is nothing to do with insisting people accept self identification of gender rather than sex. My anger is about the eradication of the word “woman” whilst the word “man” remains.

“Sex/gender assigned at birth” - I long for someone to say this to me IRL, so I can point out that sex is assigned at conception and observed at birth or in pre-natal scans. But gender-woo is slow to reach this bit of rural Devon, where most people understand the difference between, say, cows and bulls, or rams and ewes - these things matter in farming.

But I just looked for myself on the John Hopkins website and it said this:

Lesbian: A woman who is emotionally, romantically, sexually, affectionately, or relationally attracted to other women, or someone who identifies as part of the lesbian community. Bisexual women may or may not feel include by this term.

In this case, we should all email the university to tell them they have two completely different versions on their website, and could they explain this? With a complaint attached that it is offensive. They can't have two versions to keep everyone happy.

@Aprilx - I see from the glossary that “Cissexism: A belief that there are only two genders which are assigned at birth and immutable. This prejudice has been integrated into social systems and policies, which contributes to the discrimination and oppression of transgender, non-binary, and gender nonconforming people.”

And yes, their definition of “Lesbian” is exactly as detailed in the thread header.

I have a problem with gender. I do not want to waste my time considering whether the fact I like this or that, or behave in this way or that means I am not the same gender as my sex. I’m just a woman who likes certain things and behaves in certain ways because I’m me.

If a boy likes dressing as a girl and playing with dolls, he’s just a boy that likes wearing dresses and playing with dolls. He doesn’t have to say he is a girl - that won’t change his behaviour. He just needs to be accepted as the boy he is.

Acceptance that sex does not dictate behaviours is all that is required, not acceptance of ludicrous gender identities and people creating more and more inane categories, because they can’t otherwise find one to fit them. No wonder there is an explosion of autistic people thinking they might be transsexual when they are actually just confused by a growing list of possible identities, because their autism means they don’t fit in any of the stupid little boxes society is creating for itself.

I've written this to the uni. If we all do this then we will be heard.

I am not defending the use of gender and didn’t read most of your post as I don’t need a lecture on it, you are preaching to the converted. I was just saying that here, my particular annoyance was about referring to women as “non men” whilst men are still men not “non women”.

I wrote to the university too, letting them know they have two versions of the same document on their website, one that is extremely offensive to women and one that is not, and that they need to address this. The more people that email and share, and complain, the more likely they are to take some form of action.

No, the lesbian definition is as it stated in the original OP - bit only on one version. They have a 2nd version of the same page on their website with non offensive terms, using the word woman regularly. It's important to point this out, else when you complain they'll probably just try to fib you off with sending you a link to the non offensive one.
